Abstract

Many Indonesian people talk about the additional ṣallû fî riḥâlikum in azan, thus questioning the hadith that is referred to. Afterwards, the Indonesian ‘Ulamâ’ Council (MUI) immediately states that ṣallû fî riḥâlikum refers to al-Bukhârî: 632; 666 and Muslim: 699. Next, MUI appeals to muezzins to read the additional in the hope that people will not attend mosques and avoid communal worship. Even so, public still do not fully believe in MUI, and the ṣallû fî riḥâlikum was not announced, hence the congregational prayers continued. With this background, this paper attempts to address this problem by using culture-shock, reception, sociology theories. This research found that, ṣallû fî riḥâlikum became a cultural shock and was perceived in Indonesia with three kinds of models: dominant, negotiated, and optional readings. Ṣallû fî riḥâlikum becomes an "objective meaning" and is used by Muslims when prayer itself is more important than congregational prayer in order to avoid demolition. Ṣallû fî riḥâlikum is expressed in various forms. Some read it while holding back sobs, others refuse. In the end ṣallû fî riḥâlikum became cultural documentation for Muslims as a whole.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of Islamic values as outlined by Sa’īd Nursī in Mursyid al-Syabāb for the preventing of conflicts on social media. The research focuses on five core values, namely an awareness of mortality, faith in the Hereafter, consistent engagement with the Qur’an, control of carnal desires, and a strong orientation toward knowledge. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, data [were gathered] through [a] literature review and textual analysis. The findings reveal that these Islamic values play a significant role in shaping individuals who are moderate, empathetic, and better capable of managing emotions effectively in the digital sphere. For instance, awareness of life’s transience fosters tolerance and reduces aggressive behavior. Similarly, belief in the Afterlife instills moral responsibility, thereby inhibiting the spread of hate speech. A close connection with the Qur’an reinforces ethical foundations, while controlling one’s desires and maximizing the use of knowledge enhances the quality of digital discourse. In conclusion, the study suggests that comprehending and applying Sa’īd Nursī ’s Islamic values provide a preventive measure against conflicts on social media, thus strengthening social cohesion amid diverse internet users.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of the hadith narrating the marriage between Prophet Muhammad and Aishah on early marriage laws in Indonesia. The hadith has been a subject of debate regarding its influence on the prevalence and acceptance of early marriage practices. Through a hermeneutics analysis within the Indonesian context, this study examines the interpretations and implications of the hadith, exploring how it has shaped societal attitudes and influenced the formulation of early marriage laws. The research argues that the marriage between the Prophet and Aishah was a “product of time”, rather than an inherent Islamic principle. It posits that Islamic principles can be contextualized across space and time, while product of time are influenced by specific values and circumstances. The study contends that the underlying Islamic principle behind marriage is to enhance the welfare and well-being of women in various aspects of life. The Prophet aimed to improve the status of women by emphasizing the institution of marriage as a means of protection. In contrast, early marriage undermines women’s opportunities for education and independent living. By comparing these perspectives, the study highlights that marriage practices are influenced by historical contexts, while the true Islamic principle seeks to elevate and empower women in social, economic, and educational spheres. The findings of this research contribute to a nuanced understanding of the relationship between religious teachings, cultural practices, and legal frameworks surrounding early marriage in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract: The prohibition of ribā is a classic issue across religious traditions and remains relevant in contemporary debates on financial practice. This study aims to reinterpret the prohibition of ribā in the Qur’an and the Bible in order to formulate ethical and legal criteria applicable to modern financial instruments. Ma’na-cum-maghza is used as an approach to reinterpret the meaning of riba.. The first stage reconstructs the textual and contextual meanings of key verses. The second stage builds an analytic bridge through classical and modern exegetical findings. The third stage articulates the substantive message (maghzā) as a basis for evaluating financial practices. The findings show that the ethical core of the prohibition of ribā lies in the principle of neither wronging others nor being wronged. This principle rejects forms of interest or gain that are exploitative and that unduly burden debtors, while preserving the specificity of ribā as an ethical and legal category that cannot be reduced to a flat equivalence with interest. The study proposes practical indicators for assessing the ethical validity of contracts, which include fairness in exchange, proportionality between risk and return, protection of vulnerable parties, prevention of burdensome debt spirals, and transparency of information and costs. These results reaffirm the orientation of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, with particular emphasis on the protection of wealth, and offer a cross-scriptural evaluative framework that can be adopted in the design of contemporary Islamic financial contracts and policies.
