Abstract

The question about the appropriate strategy for teaching human creation in Christian Religious Education class sometimes arises when there is a clash between the testimony of the Bible and scientific theory. The Bible states that Adam and Eve were the first humans, while scientists based on the theory of evolution assume ancient humans are the ancestors due to the discovery of fossils. This article aims to address this debate using descriptive analysis methods with a literature approach. The conclusion is that educators do not need to avoid the theory of evolution but instead face it with arguments from the Bible and science.

Abstract

Puberty often confuses teenagers who don't understand it. Therefore, it is essential to provide sex education to help children understand the phase they are experiencing. Not only children but parents also need to understand the developments that occur in their children so they can accompany their children in these turbulent times. This spiritual education aims to equip children and their parents with correct knowledge about human sexuality and its biblical responsibilities. The education was delivered in presentations, followed by an interactive discussion, and then closed with a conclusion. The result is that the counseling went well and was understood by the participants. The author suggests that this kind of activity be carried out regularly, considering the broad discussion of topics surrounding sex education.   Keywords: education; sexuality; teens; parents

Abstract

What faith is and how to express it are two essential questions that seem easy but are complicated to answer. According to the prosperity gospel adherents, faith must be expressed through imagining (visualization) and saying (affirmation), as written in Genesis 15:5-6. However, for some groups, this teaching deviates from the truth according to the Bible and is more similar to the law of attraction. This article intends to criticize the visualization concept and to explore what is faith according to Genesis 15:5-6 by using the library research method combined with text exposition. The conclusion is that according to Genesis 15:5-6, true faith focuses on God's will entirely without the help of the power of human thoughts and words. Thus, visualization teaching, apart from being unbiblical, is also humanistic and tends to lead to syncretism.

Abstract

Abstract: Mindfulness has long been popular among psychologists and medical workers as the best answer to help people focus so they can avoid or prevent stress. Some Christians also practice mindfulness and make it part of their worship rituals. However, because it is considered identical to Buddhism and East religions, some believers refuse to practice this for fear of syncretism. Thus, this article explores to what extent believers could accept and practice mindfulness. This study used a qualitative method with a library approach. The writer collects data from various literature related to discussing and analyzing the topic. From the study, the writer concludes that although worldly mindfulness offers more positive aspects than negative ones, believers should avoid it and practice biblical mindfulness instead. The true Christian mindfulness centers on God and involves His words. Keywords: mindfulness, meditation, stress, happiness

Abstract

Parents must nurture their children from their earliest days to know God personally. However, some parents sometimes do not realize this and neglect their responsibility. Thus, this study explores how parents and the church should develop a mutual partnership in children’s spiritual education. The author used a qualitative method with a literature approach to investigate the problem and propose suggestions. The conclusion was that the parent is the primary responsible party in educating children. But, they can not do this task independently without the church's help. Since relying on Sunday School as part of the church’s responsibility for teaching children alone is not enough, the church could help them by providing training that educates parents to do their parental responsibilities. And to ensure that the education at home will overlap with church teaching, Sunday School teachers and parents as partners should develop mutual respect and communication. If everyone involved in children's ministry, directly or indirectly, could cultivate this joint responsibility, it would help children grow in fear of God and be better people. As the future generation, improving the quality of our ministry for children will eventually create a better church, now and later.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to answer whether Tamar's actions, which deceived her father-in-law, Judah, in Genesis 38 are justified from the point of view of Christian ethics. Answering this question can help God's people understand what to consider when making ethical decisions. The method used is a qualitative method with a literature study approach. The author collects data from various literature and then compiles systematic arguments related to the topic. The conclusion is that we could not blame Tamar for her actions since she was only trying to fight for her fate which was oppressed by Judah's indifference. This story teaches us that after God's words, the situation faced by the individual is also important to consider in ethical decision-making.

Abstract

The practice of fasting and prayer has long been a part of Christian worship rituals, believed to promote the spiritual growth of believers. However, even positive spiritual disciplines can become negative when misunderstood. This error dates back to biblical times, when God rebuked Israel's fasting and prayer (Isaiah 58). Jesus also repeatedly touched on the importance of fasting and prayer properly. Therefore, this article aims to examine the various errors in the practice of fasting and prayer that believers need to be aware of. The method used is a qualitative literature review approach. The conclusion reached is that fasting and prayer can be misguided if done without repentance. Fasting and prayer are also not a guarantee of salvation. Therefore, the practice of fasting and prayer truly requires a clear purpose, with a desire to draw closer to God, and as an expression of faith and dependence.
