Abstract

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is one of the main causes of increasing global health morbidity and mortality for diabetes cases. Increasing the glycemic control in patients with T2DM is not enough if it is only treated with anti-hyperglycemic drugs. Physical exercise is an activity that is planned, structured and carried out to improve health or physical fitness and it is an effective way to improve glycemic control. The aim of this study was to search and review the research on effectiveness of physical exercise on glycemic control in T2DM.Methods: We searched the scientific literature on T2DM and physical exercise in the ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Scopus, Ebsco and Pubmed databases for original research studies and then we reviewed them systematically. Of the 1145 articles retrieved, 14 studies were obtained by the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) methodResults: Aerobic physical exercise improved the glycemic control of T2DM and it was widely used and significant for glycemic control. The schedule of 3 times a week for 60 minutes per session over 2 months was widely used and significant when it came to reducing blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c).Conclusion: This systematic review could be used as evidence when carrying out aerobic physical exercise interventions for the purpose of glycemic control.

Abstract

Electronic modules (e-modules) as innovative learning media that can be accessed anytime and anywhere are promised to increase nursing students' knowledge. However, there are still limited studies that examine the effectiveness of E-modules and the effect of E-modules on increasing student knowledge. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the e-module on undergraduate nursing students' knowledge level. One group pre-posttest research design was conducted on 46 students recruited through purposive sampling. Respondents filled out the pretest, followed by studying the E-module material on spontaneous delivery compiled by maternity nursing experts for three reading periods in a week and working on a posttest questionnaire compiled by the researcher. Then the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with a significance level of 0.05. Students' knowledge before giving the intervention was seen in the pretest results, with an average value of 72 and an increase in the average value in the posttest after the intervention was given to 97. So there was a significant effect of e-module as a learning medium on increasing student knowledge (p =0.00). The E Module has been proven to be effective in increasing knowledge. Still, nursing education and science continue to develop, so regular updating of the content of the e-module is needed and combining it with nursing moral values is essential because good moral attitudes are also the focus of nursing education.

Abstract

Abstract Advances in technology and information affect education sector, one of them is the shift in learning methods that were initially fully face-to-face to digitalization in the form of virtual simulations. The use of virtual simulation still leaves a number of challenges, one of them is the problem of replacing face-to-face learning to virtual simulation completely. This study aims to examine virtual simulations as a learning media in improving nursing students' clinical competency. This study was a literature design review that refers to the Preferred Reported Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines (PRISMA). A total of 451 articles were obtained from Scopus (44), Google Scholar (334), and PubMed (73). The 11 selected articles were analyzed and trevealed that the combination of virtual simulations with traditional learning improved nursing students' clinical competency. Learning through virtual simulations provided an interesting experience through audio-visual that resembles real conditions so it increased the brain's ability to think at a higher level and prepare students to deal with real patients. When students were ready, traditional learning provides real-life experiences in clinical practice. Because students have previously been provided with cognitive and psychomotor competency through virtual simulations, traditional learning strengthen nursing students' clinical competency. So these two learning methods are a neat combination. But so far it seems that virtual simulation has not been able to completely replace traditional learning. Cross-sectoral coordination is needed to improve the quality of virtual simulation learning so that it is expected to improve nursing students’ clinical competency.
