Abstract

Tuberculosis treatment takes 6-8 months to heal and complete treatment. Long-term treatment requires interaction from patients, such as compliance. Lack of communication and interaction between health workers and patients during the treatment process can lead to failure of compliance. Technology is needed to improve compliance with TB treatment; this has benefits for public health, such as reducing the rate of disease recurrence, drug resistance, and transmission of infection. Based on this, video education is needed to improve family knowledge and patient compliance in TB treatment. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of TB treatment videos in improving the knowledge of PMO (Medication Companions) and compliance of pulmonary TB patients taking medication. The research method used was quasi-experimental (pre and post-test). The sample in this study were PMO and TB patients in Tanjungpinang City as many as 62 respondents. The instruments used were videos and questionnaires to measure PMO knowledge and patient compliance in taking medication. The results were an increase in the average knowledge in the intervention group compared to the control group and an increase in compliance from before being given therapy in both the control and intervention groups. TB treatment videos are effective in terms of knowledge of Treatment Companions (PMO) (p=0.000) and compliance of pulmonary TB patients in taking medication (p=0.002). TB treatment videos are expected to be used as PMO media to provide information to pulmonary TB patients.

Abstract

Indonesia is currently facing a double burden of disease, namely communicable and non-communicable diseases. To address this issue, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has initiated a health transformation through six pillars, which are priority programs of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Various efforts have also been made to reduce the incidence of Pulmonary Tuberculosis (Pulmonary TB) in the working area of Puskesmas Kampung Bugis. However, the activities carried out have not been optimal in reducing the number of Pulmonary TB cases in Tanjungpinang City, especially in the working area of Puskesmas Kampung Bugis. Therefore, there is a need for Community Empowerment, particularly of TB patients, in the management of Pulmonary Tuberculosis at home in the Puskesmas Kampung area of Tanjungpinang City in 2024. The objective of this community service activity is to provide education to the community, especially TB patients, in managing TB disease at home. The method of this community service activity involves health promotion on TB treatment efforts and prevention of TB transmission, which is carried out routinely through the direct delivery of material to the community, especially TB patients, using booklets/leaflets. The activity was held at the Kampung Bugis Health Center on October 2 and 20, 2024. The results showed that the average knowledge score before the education session was 70.5, while after the education session, it increased to 85.3. The conclusion is that there was an increase in the knowledge of Pulmonary TB patients in managing Pulmonary TB at home. Educational activities for Pulmonary TB patients, whether conducted by community health workers or health professionals, should be provided regularly so that pulmonary disease can be controlled in the community.

Abstract

A traffic accident is an unexpected and unintentional road event involving a vehicle with or without other road users that results in human casualties and property damage (UU RI, 2009). The World Health Organization (2018) states that traffic accidents are ranked eighth as a cause of death in the world with 1.35 million victims dying each year. This study aims to see a picture of community knowledge and attitudes about first aid in traffic accidents in Riau Islands Province in 2022. This type of research is quantitative and the research design used is descriptive with retrospective data collection. The population of this study was 32 people. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. In this study, it is known that the majority of people have high knowledge with 29 respondents (91%) and show a moderate attitude with 27 respondents (84%). This is influenced by several factors, namely education, sources of information, and experience. The results of this study are expected for the community to be able to increase knowledge about and attitudes about first aid in traffic accidents by attending training and education, so that they can participate in first aid efforts for victims of traffic accidents.
