Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether Randalls‟ ESL Cyber Listening Lab as a teaching media for listening is effective for students‟ listening comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA PRISMA Kota Serang. The researcher used quantitative research by using true experimental design. The population of this research is all students at eleventh grade of SMA PRISMA Kota Serang. The sample were divided into 2 classes, they were XI IPS 1 as the experimental class and XI IPS 2 as a control class. Each group consists of 20 students. Then, the result showed the significance degree of 5%. The result was t_count t_table (82.05 2.02), it means that the null hypothesis (H_o) is accepted. This indicates that Randalls‟ ESL Cyber Listening Lab is effective to be used as a media for students‟ listening comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA PRISMA Kota Serang.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using English pop songs toward students’ listening comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 5 Kota Serang. The population of this research was all the students of the tenth grade of SMAN 5 Kota Serang, and the sample were X Science 4 as experimental class and X Science 3 as control class. The researcher used quantitative method by implementing true experimental design.The instrument of research was the tests: pre and post test. The result of students’ average in pre-test were 45.17 for experimental and 46 for control class. The result of students’ average in post-test were 78 for experimental and 71.67 for control class. It can be concluded that using English pop songs was effective toward students’ listening  and the teachers can use English pop songs a a media to overcome students’ difficulty in listening and improve their listening comprehension, too.

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine whether there was an influence of using genre based approach on students procedural writing text skill. The method used a quantitative method with true-experimental study. The population was ninth grade students of SMPN 11 Kota Serang with 66 students were taken as sample. There were two groups, experimental and control group. Each of which consisted of 33 students. Different treatments were given to the experimental group while the control group taught by conventional teaching. The test of writing instrument was administered in two sections; pretest and posttest. The data were counted with content validity, reliability, normality test,homogeneity test,and hypothesis test (t-test). The result of this research was that using genre based approach has positive influences such as the students could enjoy the process of learning and facilitated the student needs in mastering students’ writing skill. The result of the data in this research showed that the score of the average of post-test was bigger than pre-test and the result of analyzing in independent t-test showed that with level significance 0.05 % was 8.289 ≥ 1.997. It means that there was an influence of using genre based approach on students’ writing text skill at ninth grade in SMPN 11 Kota Serang.

Abstract

PembelajaranAbad21menempatkanketerampilanberkomunikasisebagaiketerampilanyangpentingdikembangkan bagi peserta didik karena sangat dibutuhkan dalam menjalani kehidupan saat ini. Keterampilankomunikasi tidak terlepas dari kemampuan menggunakan bahasa, baik bahasa Indonesia maupun BahasaInggris. Bahasa Inggris sangat dibutuhkan di era globalisasi sehingga dibekalkan pada pembelajar dari tingkatanSD sampai perguruan tinggi. Namun pada kenyataannya pembelajaran ini bagi sebagian besar peserta didiktidak lebih dari sekedar pengetahuan, bukan menjadi keterampilan berbahasa yang digunakan dalam kehidupansehari-hari apalagi untuk menjadi alat dalam mengembangkan kompetensi di bidang lain seperti mencariinformasi. Di sisi lain, Ilmu Kimia merupakan ilmu yang tidak bisa dilepaskan dari semua sisi kehidupanmanusia. Sebagian materi kimia merupakan pengetahuan yang dibutuhkan semua masyarakat untuk hidupdengan aman. Oleh karena itu,Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dan Pendidikan Kimia berusaha untukmelakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan sasaran calon guru, guru dan dosen Bahasa Inggris danKimia untuk membuat media kreatif yang dapat digunakan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris sekaligus Kimia atausebaliknya. Hal ini sekaligus menjadi pembelajaran bagi siswa dalam waktu yang bersamaan. Kegiatandirancang selama bulan Juni sampai November 2021 yang dimulai dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasikegiatan. Perencanaan meliputi analisis kebutuhan, menghubungi dan mencocokkan waktu dengan nara sumberdan panitia serta merancang kegiatan. Pelaksanaan meliputi pembukaan, sajian dari nara sumber, tanya jawabdan tindak lanjut. Kegiatan workshop dilaksanakan dari tanggal 14 sampai 16 Agustus 2021. Rangkaiankegiatan ditutup dengan evaluasi keterlaksanaan kegiatan dan persepsi peserta. Hasil yang diharapkan daripengabdian ini adalah terlaksananya kegiatan sesuai rencana dan media kreatif yang dibuat peserta. Darirangkaian workshop selama 3 hari didapatkan sebanyak 13 media cetak (seperti modul dan LKPD) dan 12media audio visual (video pembelajaran) baik berupa media pembelajaran Kimia dengan menggunakan bahasaInggris maupun media pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang berisi konten Kimia sederhana dalam kontekskehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

Tuberkulosis adalah penyakit menular disebabkan oleh Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Penyakit Tuberkolosis paru ditularkan melalui udara (droplet nuclei), saat penderita batuk, bersin atau berbicara, kuman TB paru yang berbentuk droplet akan bertebaran di udara. Kontak serumah dengan penderita tuberkulosis aktif berisiko tertular dibandingkan dengan yang tidak kontak dengan penderita tuberkulosis paru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui risiko penularan TB paru pada orang yang kontak serumah meliputi lama kontak dan tidur sekamar dengan penderita di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Perumnas II Kecamatan Pontianak Barat. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analitik dengan menggunakan teknik pengambilan sampel yaitu total sampling.  Jumlah sampel sebanyak 77 responden yang tinggal serumah dengan penderita tuberkulosis paru yang masih aktif berobat di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Perumnas II Kecamatan Pontianak Barat, 2024. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, kunjungan rumah dan pemeriksaan laboratorium BTA secara mikroskopis. Hasil analisis menunjukkan dari 77 responden yang memiliki kontak dengan penderita ≥ 8 jam sebanyak 37 responden (48,1%) dan didapatkan 4 responden yang hasil BTA (+). Lama kontak dengan prevalensi sebanyak (10,8%) dan tidur sekamar dengan prevalensi sebanyak (36,3%). Maka disimpulkan bahwa terdapat  penularan TB Paru pada orang yang kontak serumah dengan penderita di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Perumnas II Kecamatan Pontianak Barat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate how joyful learning strategies improve writing skills among extrovert and introverted students in the fourth semester of the English Department at one of the public universities in Banten province. The research question seeks to uncover variations in how extrovert and introvert students respond to joyful learning approaches in writing training. The study used a qualitative case study design, with eight subjects (four extroverts and four introverts) chosen by purposive sampling. The data collection methods included semi-structured interviews, observations of classes, and student reflective journals. Following the data collection, thematic analysis was applied. It was discovered that extrovert students prefer teaching methods that are more energetic, collaborative and allow for greater verbal expression, such as group writing games and peer dialogues. Introvert students, on the other hand, are far more engaged with individual reflective tasks like music-assisted writing and visual prompts. Nevertheless, both groups reported an increase in pleasure, a decrease in anxiety, and an enhancement of confidence with writing through the joyful learning methods employed. The study concludes that adapting the joyful learning strategies to fit personalities will enable writing instruction in EFL contexts to be more effective and more inclusive.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacillus. Pulmonary TB disease is transmitted through the air (droplet nuclei), when the patient coughs, sneezes, or talks, pulmonary TB germs in the form of droplets will be scattered in the air. Household contact with active tuberculosis people has higher risk of being infected compared to those who are not in contact. This study aims to determine the risk of pulmonary TB transmission in people who are in house contact, including length of contact and sleeping in the same room, in the working area of Puskesmas Perumnas II, West Pontianak District. This research is categorized as descriptive analytic with total sampling technique. The sample size was 77 respondents who lived in the same house with pulmonary TB patients who were still actively seeking treatment in the working area of Perumnas II Community Health Center. Sample criteria included inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research was conducted through direct interviews using questionnaires, observation sheets, and microscopic BTA data collection. The results showed that out of 77 respondents, 37 respondents (48.1%) had contact with patients ≥ 8 hours and 4 of them were BTA positive. The prevalence of transmission based on length of contact was 10.8% and based on sleeping in the same room was 36.3%. The study concluded that there was a prevalence of pulmonary TB transmission in people who were in contact with the patient.

Abstract

 This is a critical review elaborated on the strengths and the weaknesses of the article content. The Purpose of the Study. It is aimed to review critically on the discussion of Developing Speaking Skills Through Task Based Materials by relating those findings with the theories, books and articles in reputated journal. Research Method. This study used Systemic Literature Review to identify, study, evaluate, and interpret the research about interesting phenomenon with certain relevant research. Every data is linked to studies which have the same discussion either from theories, books and relevant articles published in reputated journal. The data is analyzed using Content analysis to analyze the content of the article as the main data. The source of data were taken from the whole content of the article that discussed about processing action on improving speaking through the implementation of Task Based Material. Main Findings. The findings showed that there were some unclear discussions about abstract information; moves organization in introduction; lack of current and relevant studies and theories; unsystematic findings related to the proposed research questions; and the terms used in the article. As the conclusion, this critical review has given informative and suggested references to support the ideas and views of the articles from reputated and current journals and recent books started from 2003 (telling the story of Task Based language teaching implementation and theories) to 2021 (suggesting the steps in developing materials through Task Based materials).Keywords: speaking skills; task based materials; critical review
