Abstract

Ethnobotanical research on the utilization of plant species in Tau Lumbis village of North Kalimantan by Tagol and Akolod Dayaks ethnics has been conducted.Seventy seven species of plants have been recorded to be utilized by the people for various purposes from medicinal to magical-supranatural. Some literature reviews suggested that there was correlation of traditional knowledge and modern science in plant utilization by these ethnics.

Abstract

Studies on the therapeutic use of insects and insect products have been neglected compared to the use of other animals or plants. This study aims to determine the antibacterial and antioxidant potential of ants extracts. Preliminary study related to antibacterial and antioxidant screeningof 17 extracts of ant colonies that belongs to 8 species were performed by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)-Bioautography. Antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH free radical scavenging method. The antibacterial activity was done against three pathogenic bacteria, i.e Bacillus subtilis InaCC B-1, Staphylococcus aureus InaCC B-4 and Escherichia coli InaCC B-5 were performed by non-eluted TLC-autobiography assay. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and IC50 values of DPPH radical scavenging activity of active extracts were determined by microdilution in 96-well microplate. The results showed 6 extracts active against B.subtilis, 5 extracts active against S.aureus. The lowest MIC value was 512 µg/ ml.  Ten extracts had the antioxidant activity with various IC50 values. The extracts of ants might be used as bioactive resources for antibacterial and antioxidant.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of study was to explore Enggano?s people live survival strategy ulilizing plant resources .  To enable living in Enggano, local community utilize plant resources with diverse strategy.  The main argument of their article is social and enviromental changes affect on the utilization of plant resources as the main strategy of survival.  There strategies of data collection were applied to verify the local community survival strategy.  Namely: FGD, questionair and interview. So we observed society change their live strategy on plant resources utilization in accordance with social change. New access on information, migration, to other island influence on society orientaton. From live survival strategy to economic benefit. Keywords: Enggano, plants, social change, survival, useful.

Abstract

Endophytic mold Fusarium sp. HSFP-3 is one of the endophytic molds isolated from Sijangkang plants (Hornstedtia scyphyfera var. fusiformis). The purpose of this study is to conduct bioproduction, and test the antioxidant activity of bioproduced extracts and identify active fractions that have antioxidant activity. The research method started from the cultivation of endophytic mold HSFP-3 on PDB media for 21 days, the bioproduction results were extracted using ethyl acetate and acetone solvents. Antioxidant activity of HSFP-3 extract was determined by IC50 and AAI values, using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging method. Isolation of antioxidant active fraction was carried out by column chromatography method using sephadex LH-20 stationary phase and silica. Isolation of antioxidant active compounds of HSFP-3 extract using bioautography guided assay approach with TLC-DPPH Bioautography method. The antioxidant test results of HSFP-3 extract has moderate activity with IC50 value 74,64 and AAI 0,844. Fraction 2.4 is an active fraction that has spot compounds with higher yellow color intensity compared to other fractions. Spot with Rf 0.35 in fraction 2.4 has a dark zone under UV 254 light. has a sea blue color under UV 366 light and a dark purple color after with Vanillin-Sulfate reagent
