Abstract

Abstract

Limited land is a major problem in big cities, which has a direct impact on increasing land prices and low level of affordability. Micro house concept can be a solution to this problem. Planning a bamboo micro house with local materials can be an effort to contribute to a sustainability agenda. Bamboo is a local material that is environmentally friendly, adaptive, and widely available in Indonesia. Preserved bamboo construction with certain treatments is also affordable and durable for its high sustainability impact. This paper aims to study the exploration of bamboo materials in designing micro houses that suit the needs of urban communities. The house concept is open plan, so the spaces can be used multi-functionally by taking into account the requirements of livable micro houses. The method used is the Cyclical Design Process which consists of three stages, which are analysis stage, synthesis stage, and evaluation stage which is carried out repeatedly to produce a design that is in accordance with the design criteria that have been determined. Paraboloid hyperbolic structure system is used to produce an attractive and efficient form. The development of this micro-bamboo house is expected to be useful in solving the backlog and housing affordability problems in Indonesia.

Abstract

Jolotundo is a village in the Mojokerto Regency area that is located on the slopes of Mount Penanggungan, close to the forest and Majapahit kingdom relics. In Indonesia, public awareness of the importance of health is declining, causing bad behavior and unhealthy environmental conditions in the community. As technology advances, health technology such as orgonite becomes an effective method of treatment or restoration for both physical and psychological health. Unfortunately, no facilities provide a place to support this method. Therefore, it is necessary to have a facility that provides a place of recovery within the orgonite method based on healing and negative energy elimination for physical, mental, environmental, and spiritual well-being. This research employed field studies and literature studies as well as several methods such as observation, documentary, and interview to obtain data, both primary data as a direct data source and secondary data as other supporting data sources. The design applies the theme of therapeutic architecture, the macro concept of tropical architecture, and the micro concept of adaptive land use. The design environment involves green open spaces and maximizes landscape arrangements.

Abstract

Jember is one of cities in East Java which has been very famous in the world. This city is dubbed as a carnaval city because it organizes an annual festival namely “Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC)”. It is a fashion carnaval that presents the creativity of Indonesian artists. This sort of event has so famed that many foreign visitors come and see. Jember Fashion Carnaval has become a great event of entertainment and tourism that make Jember and even Indonesian people proud of. Moreover, this event exhibits cultural and art fashion show in the international level. Unfortunately, a specific place which can accommodate this kind of activity has not been available yet. As a result, JFC and art show are paraded along the roads in Jember. Thus, a Cultural Activity Centre of Fashion Carnaval in Jember is necessary to be designed by employing symbolic architecture. To collect the data, the researcher implemented field study and literature study as well as descriptive analysis method. The macro concept of this design entitled iconic under the symbolic theme will make Jember as a Carnival city. Meanwhile, the micro concept of recreational land order is actualized in centered-circulation pattern getting the philosophy of JFC logo. The micro concept of adaptive shape occurs by adapting the shape of JFC symbol as the costume of building, whereas the micro concept of thematic space derives from the philosophy of JFC fashion products which have different themes for every event. The facilities provide show area, convention hall, organizer office, restaurant and inn, training and workshop, art gallery, and souvenir shop. They are designed to facilitate all activities related to JFC. Accordingly, this design is expected to be an area which can support JFC event for youths who want to develop and continue the art works produced by Indonesian people so that this event can last long and improve other subsequent events.

Abstract

The Banger River has been converted into a high-density slum dwelling. Most of the slum dwellings are permanent buildings located above the river and around the river border, resulting in experiencing a significant decline in the quality of its facilities and infrastructure. The condition of buildings and infrastructure supporting slums in the Banger river area is analyzed with seven slum parameters according to the Ministry of Public Works Regulation No. 2 of 2016 Article 4 paragraph 2. The typology based on the geographical location categorized the Banger River area as slum dwellings on the edge of water bodies. The formulation of the problem that will be discussed in this study is to identify the physical and non-physical problems that affect the function of the Banger River area. The purpose of this study is to develop a pattern of slum settlements renewal that can optimize the potential and answer the problems that exist in the area. The research method chosen was descriptive qualitative with literature studies and field surveys. The results showed that the appropriate treatment concept was resettlement so that it could optimize the potential and could answer the problems of the seven slum parameters.

Abstract

Characteristics of material can be explored and used as a channel of creativity in designing buildings. Nevertheless, the material exploration process must be able to support efficient use of resources throughout the building's life cycle, starting from material selection, design, construction, maintenance, to demolition. Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam) is an alternative material which is wood-based materials, can be renewed and has low embodied energy. By using channel of creativity (focus on material, the characteristics of glulam are used as an approach to designing a building. The type of building that used as an object of exploration is a simple non-space building, called shelter. The design process is a cyclical series of phases: analysis, synthesis, and evaluation to obtain the most appropriate design. The analysis phase (glulam, shelter, and focus on material) create design criteria that will be used to produce several alternative designs at the synthesis stage. Then, some alternative designs are evaluated at the evaluation stage to get the most appropriate design. This research aims to find out schematic design of shelter in the form of single curves and double curves, composed of 60x60 cm glulam elements joined with notched technique.
