Abstract

Background: The high prevalence of smoking among adolescents is a serious concern for society and the government. Many studies have been conducted to examine the reasons why adolescents start smoking and how to prevent smoking behavior among adolescents. In the midst of high rates of smoking behavior among adolescents, it is also very interesting to study smoking refusal among adolescents which can later provide information for prevention programs in helping adolescents avoid smoking behavior. Objectives: To describe the phenomenon regarding the rejection of adolescent smoking behavior. Methods: This research is qualitative research that uses in-depth interviews with 17 teenagers as informants. This research was conducted in the District of Sampang Madura from February 2021 to June 2021. The selection of informants then followed the information from the informants who completed the interview (snowball sampling). Results: Based on the results of the study it was found that adolescents who have peers who do not smoke tend to easily reject smoking behavior. Refusal to smoke by adolescents includes health factors, impact on quality of life, societal norms, and appearance. The existence of orders from the family environment to avoid smoking behavior was also mentioned by adolescents as a reason not to smoke. Conclusions: Adolescent rejection of smoking behavior can be used as a reference in smoking behavior prevention programs and also as material for evaluating intervention programs that can help adolescents to quit smoking.

Abstract

Introduction: Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) significantly contributes to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men. When medical treatments are insufficient, surgical options such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) are considered standard. However, TURP has drawbacks, including the need for general or spinal anesthesia, hospitalization, and potential complications like retrograde ejaculation, hematuria, clot retention, and urethral stricture. In response, less invasive treatments have been developed, though their functional outcomes have often been less satisfactory than TURP, leading to their exclusion from recent guidelines. Methods: A thorough search was conducted using keywords related to MITs for LUTS, with inclusion criteria focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in English. Studies were selected based on their relevance and adherence to the inclusion criteria, followed by a rigorous quality assessment and data synthesis. Results: From an initial pool of studies, five key papers were selected for detailed analysis. These studies included comparisons of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) with TURP, aquablation with sham procedures, and various other MITs. Conclusion: This review highlights the potential of MITs as viable alternatives to TURP for treating LUTS associated with BOO. While TURP remains highly effective, MITs, particularly aquablation and PAE, offer comparable functional outcomes with better safety profiles and preservation of sexual function.

Abstract

Background: The widespread use of the internet among adolescents has transformed how they access health information. However, the abundance of unverified online content poses risks for individuals who lack the skills to assess its credibility. Digital health literacy is therefore essential for enabling adolescents to seek, evaluate, and use health information responsibly. Objectives: This study examined the relationship between digital health literacy and health information–seeking behavior among Indonesian adolescents, providing empirical evidence to inform digital health promotion strategies. Methods: A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted with 524 adolescents aged 12–19 years from five provinces in Indonesia. Data were collected using an online questionnaire comprising the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS) and a Health Information–Seeking Behavior (HISB) instrument developed by the researchers. Descriptive statistics were used to profile respondents, and Spearman’s rank correlation was applied to assess the relationship between variables. Results: Overall, 38.2% of adolescents demonstrated high, 46.7% moderate, and 15.1% low digital health literacy. Adolescents with higher literacy levels exhibited more active and critical health information–seeking behavior, including more frequent use of credible sources, information verification, and appropriate application of information in decision-making. A significant positive correlation was found between digital health literacy and health information–seeking behavior (ρ = 0.307; p = 0.007), indicating that digital health literacy substantially influences adolescents’ engagement with online health information. Conclusion: Digital health literacy plays an important role in shaping adolescents’ health information–seeking behavior. Strengthening digital health literacy should be prioritized in health promotion initiatives targeting young populations in the digital era.
