Abstract

The increase in the elderly population raises concerns regarding the potential lack of understanding of chronic illnesses in this age group and their impact on quality of life. The main objective of this initiative is to provide education on a better understanding of the health issues faced by the elderly and how to manage them effectively. The study was conducted in November 2023 with 25 participants involved: 1) Preparing educational materials, 2) Providing education to elderly caregivers, and 3) Evaluating the impact of these activities through pre-and post-tests. As a result of the study, an increase in knowledge about various health problems and strategies to improve the quality of life of the elderly was observed after receiving education. As part of this activity, health status examinations were conducted, and the quality of life of elderly individuals was assessed using questionnaires. It was found that 52% of the participants reported suffering from hypertension, heart disease, or metabolic endocrine diseases. It is worth noting that the physical domain had the lowest quality-of-life score compared to other domains. In conclusion, it could be argued that community health education activities may play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life of the elderly by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage their health challenges

Abstract

Introduction: Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) significantly contributes to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men. When medical treatments are insufficient, surgical options such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) are considered standard. However, TURP has drawbacks, including the need for general or spinal anesthesia, hospitalization, and potential complications like retrograde ejaculation, hematuria, clot retention, and urethral stricture. In response, less invasive treatments have been developed, though their functional outcomes have often been less satisfactory than TURP, leading to their exclusion from recent guidelines. Methods: A thorough search was conducted using keywords related to MITs for LUTS, with inclusion criteria focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in English. Studies were selected based on their relevance and adherence to the inclusion criteria, followed by a rigorous quality assessment and data synthesis. Results: From an initial pool of studies, five key papers were selected for detailed analysis. These studies included comparisons of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) with TURP, aquablation with sham procedures, and various other MITs. Conclusion: This review highlights the potential of MITs as viable alternatives to TURP for treating LUTS associated with BOO. While TURP remains highly effective, MITs, particularly aquablation and PAE, offer comparable functional outcomes with better safety profiles and preservation of sexual function.

Abstract

The implementation of IFRS 17 in 2025 will impact the reporting of insurance contracts and potentially affect the calculation of Risk Based Capital (RBC) for insurance companies. This study evaluates how IFRS 17 affects insurance contract liabilities and solvency ratios in insurance companies, using a sizeable Indonesian life insurance company as a case study. The research covers traditional products, health insurance, and unit-linked products, with findings validated through interviews with actuarial or accounting heads from five other life insurance companies. The study reveals that liabilities for traditional insurance contracts increase, unit-linked product liabilities decrease, and short-term health insurance liabilities remain unchanged. These changes will impact RBC calculations even though IFRS 17 does not alter the inherent business risks of insurance companies. The study recommends that regulators adjust RBC calculations to ensure financial statements accurately reflect insurance companies' financial health and risks.
