Abstract

The rise of Japan after the defeat in World War II became the center of world admiration, including us in Indonesia. Human resources development through education has become the main key to the success of Japan. This certainly can be a reference for us in formulating human resources development policies in the future. We often feel amazed at the seriousness of the Japanese government in dealing with education problems. However, we also tend to ignore various facts related to it. For example, after the defeat of the war, Japanese academics and bureaucrats immediately conducted introspection and research to find out the cause of the defeat. From the results of this research, it was concluded that there were fatal errors in education policies and philosophies so far; departing from this understanding, a significant revision of the education law was immediately carried out. In other words, the Japanese government not only pays attention to education but they also completely overhaul educational policies. Japan lost the war against the United States. Consequently, for the following 7 years, 1945-1952, Japan was occupied by the United States of America, who had ordered Japan to change all policies, including educational policies. In this paper, we will look at what changes in the philosophical foundation and policy changes, as well as how the discussion process until the formulation and enactment of several new education laws, and what criticisms and expectations are implied in the education law.

Abstract

As more and more religious content appears in anime, the actual meaning of its use in anime may be different. This phenomenon is known as religious cosmetics introduced by Jolyon Baraka Thomas. Religious cosmetics introduces the term religious vocabulary and religious imagery. This study focuses on analyzing religious vocabulary, and aims to prove whether the Shinto religious vocabularies that appears in the anime Enen no Shouboutai season 1 (2019) are religious cosmetics. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The use of words in the anime Enen no Shouboutaiseason 1 will be compared with the meaning of the vocabulary from the Shinto religious dictionary compiled by Brian Bocking. The results showed that there are eighteen data of religious vocabularies that appear in anime Enen no Shouboutai season 1, which can be divided into five categories, namely (1) ‘amaterasu’, (2) ‘kami’, (3) ‘matsuri’, (4) ‘oni’, and (5) ‘sake’. However, among those five categories appeared throughout the series, four were found as Shinto religious vocabularies which used as religious cosmetics while one category (3) ‘matsuri’ was not used as religious cosmetics. The reason is because the meaning and the use of the word is getting wider, not only used in Shinto related topics, but also in daily life generally.

Abstract

This article discussed the persistence of ethnic conflicts around the world, evolving from post-World War II national disputes to internal conflicts driven by ethnic and intergroup tensions. These problems impeded democratization and remained crucial to the development of societies and national identities. Ethnic violence was an example of political violence rooted in ethnic hatred. Countries such as the United States, with its racially and ethnically diverse population, faced significant challenges of ethnic discrimination against Japanese immigrants. Japanese immigration to the United States, especially in California, which began in the mid-1880s, was driven by labor shortages following the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and later by economic difficulties in Japan. United States immigration policies, especially the Acts of 1917 and 1924, imposed restrictions on Asian immigrants, which impacted Japanese immigration. This study, using qualitative research with a descriptive overview through the densho.org portal, aimed to analyze Japanese ethnic violence in California. Racism and economic competition fueled anti-Japanese violence. Anti-Japanese sentiment increased, especially after the attack on Pearl Harbor, which led to the mass internment of Japan-American.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract This article reviews the long amateur era of Japanese football which was heavily influenced by the concept of Shokuba Supotsu (workplace sport/職場スポーツ). The amateur era of Japanese football arguably began in 1921, as marked by the birth of the Emperor's Cup tournament. Later, there was also Japan Soccer League (日本サッカーリーグ, Nihon Sakkā Rīgu/JSL), an amateur competition held from 1965 to 1992. At first, the Emperor's Cup was dominated by teams from educational institutions. Then started to change from 1963, with the presence of corporate clubs in the Emperor's Cup. Since then, corporate clubs have begun to dominate Japanese football competitions. However, these corporate clubs are run amateurishly because they do not apply aspects of professional football. Players (who are also employees of their team's corporation) must divide their time between working for their company and playing in football competitions. So corporate players do not focus on carrying out their activities as footballers. The Japanese football amateur era stopped in 1992 when the JSL competition changed to J. League in 1993. Only professional clubs could participate in J. League, so amateur corporate football clubs didn’t have a reason to exist anymore since they should transform into professional clubs. This paper uses a literature study method from previous studies with similar themes. Before becoming an Asian football powerhouse like today, Japanese football had difficulty to develop because football was run in an amateur way.

Abstract

The Japanese government actively promotes art and culture through the Japan Foundation to attract the attention of the Indonesian people, thereby fostering emotional closeness and strengthening the relationship between the two countries. As a result, Indonesians will come to like Japanese products and consume Japanese products made in Indonesia as well as those imported from Japan. This will also encourage Indonesian tourists to visit Japan and Indonesian youth to study or work in Japan. This study aims to identify the objectives and benefits of the Sakura Matsuri held in Cikarang and why it was held in that city. This study uses theories of cultural sociology, communication sociology, migration, and soft power. This study uses qualitative methods through internet searches, literature data, and interviews with the committee and visitors. The Sakura Matsuri event held in Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency, West Java Province, is one way Indonesia and Japan are fostering economic cooperation through cultural diplomacy. This event will attract young Indonesians who are new to Japanese culture. Young people who are already familiar with Japan but have not had the opportunity to visit can obtain information at several booths about how to travel to Japan or live in Japan to study or work.
