Abstract

Abstract

Jazz Fusion music is one of the music styles currently developing in Bali. The characteristics of Jazz Fusion include combining two musical concept approaches, between local music concepts (Balinese tradisi) and foreign music (western), which results in a different Jazz musical identity. One musical work, Sanghyang Legong, describes the situation of Balinese Jazz Fusion music. Sanghyang Legong musical work results from a collaboration between famous Indonesian jazz musician Indra Lesmana and Balinese gamelan musicians I Made Subandi (alm.) and I Wayan Sudiarsa. This work uses Gending Sanghyang as a source of inspiration developed through a jazz music aesthetic approach. This composition received great appreciation from the music community inside and outside Bali. After being mass-produced in 2017, Sanghyang Legong attracted over 36,000 monthly views on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music. This article aims to educate the reader on the composer’s creative process, the resultant musical form, and the work’s significance. The formulation of the problem includes (1) the process of creation, (2) musical form, and (3) implications of Sanghyang Legong composition. The research method uses a qualitative design with a descriptive approach to musicology. Data collection through documentation and interviews. Analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The elaboration of instruments and playing techniques of Gamelan Singapraga, Suling (Balinese Flute), and Balinese Gending Vocal Style showed the concept of Jazz Fusion music in the composition of Sanghyang Legong. The song has five parts: Solo, Intro, Verse, Chorus, and Interlude. This work has an impactful implication for the sustainability of tourism and Bali’s creative economy.

Abstract

Abstract

People in Buae village, Sidenreng Rappang, South Sulawesi, annually perform the Mappadendang harvest ritual to express gratitude for a successful rice harvest. This research aims to discuss the unique musical behavior of the community during the Mappadendang process, namely singing Sure' “Meong Palo Karellae”, and drumming “Lesung”. This research uses a qualitative design with an ethnomusicology approach. The author obtained research data through field observations, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using the flowchart technique: data reduction, display, and conclusion/verification. The results showed that Mappadendang music performances are related to spiritual, social, and entertainment functions. Mappadendang musical performances produce musical activities based on local wisdom creativity, including 1) Massure', which is the process of singing the text of “Meong Palo Karellae” with a vocal style produced in mono melodic form, played based on the interpretation of Passure' (Lontar Reader) tones. In Lesung drumming, the rhythm of Mappadendang is related to the concept of Sulapa Eppa'. Two rhythmic patterns are found: 1) “Manganak” is a pattern played by “Indo' Padendang” (female player), resulting in a four-beat interweaving played alternately and repeatedly. 2) “Mattang” is the rhythmic pattern played by “Ambo' Padendang” (male player), who plays contrasting rhythmic patterns, tending to produce synchronized rhythmic forms. The results of this research are significant because they reflect the community's views towards the sustainability of Mappadendang. Readers will know the uniqueness of Mappadendang music performance, which can inspire the creation of new art based on local wisdom.

Abstract

The availability of fisheries infrastructure data in an area is the first step in improving and enhancing the management of the fisheries system, because the existence of fisheries infrastructure is an inseparable part in supporting the success of fishing activities. With accurate infrastructure data, it can be used as a reference in planning the development of marine and fisheries centers. In West Aceh Regency, there are currently many marine and fisheries infrastructures, but no research has been conducted on mapping fisheries centers based on the distribution of existing fisheries infrastructure. The absence of updated infrastructure data is worried to have an impact on the optimization of marine and fisheries resource management. The purpose of this study is to map fisheries centers based on the distribution of fisheries infrastructure. The method used in this study is the survey method, where data collection in the field was carried out in three sub-districts that directly border the coastal area, namely Samatiga District, Johan Pahlawan District and Meureubo District. The infrastructure coordinates obtained from the field will be processed and presented in the form of a map using the ArcGIS application. The results of the study showed that in West Aceh Regency there are 1 PPI and 6 TPI, 31 infrastructure for procurement and repair of fishing vessels, and 9 infrastructures before and  after fishing. The fisheries center in Samatiga District is in the Kuala Bubon area, the fisheries center in Johan Pahlawan District is along the Krueng Cangkoi estuary river, while the fisheries center in Meureubo District is in one of the rivers in Gampong Meureubo and Gampong Ujong Drien.
