The results of the study showed that 1) the results of the implementation had increased, both when PBL was applied and did not apply PBL. The average implementation of learning is 77.41%. The average implementation done by the teacher is 79.31%. The average implementation given to students was 77.83%. 2) The response of class XI TGB 1 students is 70.86% and class XI TGB 2 is 76.17%, meaning that students have a good response to the application of PBL. 3) The average frame material learning outcomes, class TGB 1 which applies the PBL model get an average value of 78.44 and TGB 2 classes that do not apply the PBL model to get an average value of 71.13. The average door leaf material learning outcomes, the TGB 2 class that applies the PBL model gets an average value of 79.3 and the TGB 1 class that does not apply the PBL model gets an average score of 70.1. The class that received the PBL model treatment had an average learning outcome better than the class that did not receive PBL treatment. Abstract

Utilizing appropriate language learning strategy may influence student’s learning process. In fact, many students do not employ the right learning strategy. This study aims to investigate students’ learning strategy used by students of English Department of IAIN Kediri. The design used in this research is a quantitative descriptive design with comparative study method and the research involved 120 students, from 4th and 6th semester of English Department IAIN Kediri. The data were collected using the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire, Version 7.0 by Rebecca L. Oxford, which includes 50 items. The findings reveal that both 4th and 6th semester students most commonly used metacognitive strategies, while compensation strategies were the least used. Overall, 4th semester students were high users of learning strategies (M = 3.53), while 6th semester students were moderate users (M = 3.48). Further analysis by major showed variations: in tourism and translation majors, metacognitive strategies were most used and compensation strategies least used. In literature majors, metacognitive strategies remained the most used, but the least used strategies differed—memory strategies for 4th semester students and social strategies for 6th semester students. These results indicate significant differences in strategy use across majors, leading to the conclusion that the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted—there are differences in language learning strategies among tourism, translation, and literature students at IAIN Kediri.

Abstract

Misunderstandings often arise in stand-up comedy, leading to varied audience reactions. Since individuals come from diverse knowledge backgrounds, they must grasp the implicit meanings to fully understand the context of a comedian's speech. However, not all audience members can successfully interpret the context of the jokes. In stand-up comedy, comedians frequently violate the maxims of Grice's (1975) cooperative principle, which creates humor through implicature. This study focuses on analyzing the types and uses of implicature in Drew Lynch's American stand-up comedy performances. Using Grice's (1975) implicature theory, the research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected by listening to and transcribing performances to examine discourse aspects. The findings reveal how Drew Lynch uses implicature to share his opinions, experiences, and emotions humorously, making it easier for the audience to connect with his material. Additionally, the study highlights Lynch's use of lexical items, categorized as references, inferences, and presuppositions, to aid audience comprehension. The study encourages future researchers to delve into other dimensions of implicature, such as its social aspects, or explore its application in different mediums like movies or comics.
