Abstract

The productivity of oil palm is highly dependent on the application of fertilization. Fertilizer applications must pay attention to its effectiveness and efficiency so that nutrients are absorbed optimally at the right time and right dosage. This research was conducted to assess the effectiveness of fertilization time. In addition, this also aimed to examine the effectiveness of oil palm fertilization which affects the productivity of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and increases the production income. The data used were secondary data including fertilization and productivity of FFB at time intervals after fertilization for 6, 7, and 8 months in Kujan Estate Division, PT Menthobi Makmur Lestari (MMaL), Kujan Village, Nanga Bulik District, Lamandau, Central Kalimantan Province. The data obtained were analyzed using MS software. Excel was also employed to describe the dosage and time applied for 1 year and the productivity of FFB after 6 months of fertilization. Fertilizer application in months with high rainfall and long dry season is less effective and efficient for nutrient availability. The productivity of FFB in the second semester after 6 months of fertilization has increased compared to the first semester. The effective application of fertilizers can increase the production of CPO and reduce the total maintenance cost of the oil palm company

The instruments used in this study were questionnaires and tests. The data show differences in the use of language learning strategies among students. The mean score for LLS use was 2.62. The second data is students' achievement. From the data, the highest score obtained by a student was 100, the lowest score was 16, and the overall average score was 46.48. The second data is students' achievement. The highest score obtained by a student was 100, the lowest score was 16, and the overall average score was 46.48. From the data, students who achieved perfect category grades mainly used metacognitive and social strategies. Abstract

Pre-service English teachers still need to gain the competence to develop authentic materials with Islamic values, reflected by their low perceived readiness. To reveal their readiness, this study was conducted by using narrative inquiry. The data were gathered from the storytelling of pre-service English teachers pursuing master's degrees at IAIN Kediri. Participants in this study were one male and one female student with teaching experience. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The data showed that the pre-service teachers believed the readiness to develop digitalized authentic materials with Islamic values could have been more optimal. It is because of the existing instructional materials provided by the government, their lack of confidence as new teachers, and their limited autonomous access to their classes as a new teacher. English textbooks provided by the government are only general English. So, it makes the teachers follow the materials instead of developing authentic materials with Islamic values that are fundamentally needed by students studying in Islamic institutions, such as modifying the materials from books to reflect Muslim activities. Therefore, the pre-service teachers must expose themselves to integrated materials books and digital materials with Islamic values.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum, introduced to replace the 2013 Curriculum, aims to improve educational quality in Indonesia. This systematic literature review explores teachers perspectives on the Merdeka Curriculum, focusing on the advantages and difficulties of its implementation. The findings show that while teachers hold a generally positive view of the curriculum, recognizing its potential to enhance learning outcomes, they face significant challenges in areas such as planning, executing lessons, and assessments. Teacher readiness is often deemed only sufficient, highlighting the need for further training to improve understanding and implementation skills. Despite these obstacles, the curriculum offers benefits, particularly in fostering student-centered learning and providing teachers with greater autonomy in designing educational activities. The study concludes that while the Merdeka Curriculum holds promise, its successful implementation requires addressing teacher preparedness and resource gaps.

Abstract

An adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, "It Ends with Us" centers on domestic violence and the characters Ryle Kincaid and Lily Bloom. Considering the increasing prevalence of domestic violence in society, this research intends to examine how the film violates the maxims of the cooperative principle by using qualitative research techniques to determine the most frequent violations. The data in this analysis comes from dialogue that occurs between characters, which includes interactions that contain violations of maxims, such as the maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner. The data for this study are gathered and analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The study examines flouting maxim in a movie using Grice's (1975) approach. It demonstrates how character routinely break the rule of relations by talking about unrelated subjects. Additionally, the maxim of manner is regularly broken, frequently in tandem with maxim of relation. There are 28 findings of flouting the quality maxim and 18 data of violating the quantity maxim.

Abstract

The integration of short stories in English language teaching has emerged as a compelling approach, offering multifaceted benefits for Indonesian students. While previous studies have explored the use of short stories in EFL contexts, this review synthesizes findings to offer actionable strategies tailored to Indonesian classrooms. Drawing on a systematic review of 15 studies from 2020 to 2024 using PRISMA methodology, this research examines the benefits, challenges, and strategies associated with using short stories in English language teaching. The findings highlight that short stories effectively enhance reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and critical thinking through strategies such as think-pair-share, collaborative learning, and the 3-2-1 reading comprehension method. These approaches foster active engagement and align well with Indonesia's collectivist culture and educational needs. However, key challenges persist, including students' low interest in reading, limited teaching resources, and inadequate teacher training. In order to address these issues, this review emphasizes the importance of increasing support for teacher development and resource accessibility. By offering practical insights and culturally relevant strategies, this study contributes to the growing discourse on literature-based teaching and its potential to transform EFL education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Misunderstandings often arise in stand-up comedy, leading to varied audience reactions. Since individuals come from diverse knowledge backgrounds, they must grasp the implicit meanings to fully understand the context of a comedian's speech. However, not all audience members can successfully interpret the context of the jokes. In stand-up comedy, comedians frequently violate the maxims of Grice's (1975) cooperative principle, which creates humor through implicature. This study focuses on analyzing the types and uses of implicature in Drew Lynch's American stand-up comedy performances. Using Grice's (1975) implicature theory, the research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected by listening to and transcribing performances to examine discourse aspects. The findings reveal how Drew Lynch uses implicature to share his opinions, experiences, and emotions humorously, making it easier for the audience to connect with his material. Additionally, the study highlights Lynch's use of lexical items, categorized as references, inferences, and presuppositions, to aid audience comprehension. The study encourages future researchers to delve into other dimensions of implicature, such as its social aspects, or explore its application in different mediums like movies or comics.
