The purpose is to formulate the roles of English language in the mode of thought and action employed by guides in performing their jobs as guide. The study applied qualitative and quantitative methods. Findings are that the English language is employed by guides in three roles. in the mode of thought, English language plays as interactive and communicative role, while in the mode of action (social mode), English language plays as social role. In the social role, English language is employed in various forms of phatic utterance (small talk) with various functions. Guides emloy the social role to build and maintain social relationship with foreign tourists. In the mode of thought, English language is employed to interact verbally with tourists, and to convey tourism-related information to tourists. Abstract

The importance of board diversity to improve company performance has been documented by previous researhers. However, prior research failed to emphasise government link company. Therefore, this paper investigates the effect board diversity on performance of government link company in Indonesia. We use the supervisory board diversity since we have two tier Board in Indonesia corporate governance system. In addition, Board Diversity composed of four: tenure, age educational and gender diversity. The data is collected from the annual report and financial statement of the company. This kind of data was taken from Indonesia’s stock exchange website, company sites and other electronic sources. Board diversity is measured by Blau Index and firm performance is measured by four proxies: accounting performance (ROA and ROE), and market performance (Stock return and Tobin’s Q). The multiple regression analysis is applied to analyze the data.  this study reveals that there is no effect of the board diversity on performance of government link company except board gender diversity for Tobin’s Q model. In addition, one control variable (company leverage) consistently for all models has a significant effect on company performance. This study has practical and theoretical implications, and it has been discussed in the paper. We suggest to the future investigator to add the research samples and consider other board diversity as factors affecting performance.

Abstract

Inaccurate cost estimates in building construction projects are often a source of budget overruns that disrupt project efficiency, including in the Sungai Penuh City Government. Several projects, such as the construction of a community health center, PSC building, and health laboratory, show significant deviations between the planned budget and actual costs. This study aims to identify the main factors influencing the accuracy of cost estimates, determine the dominant factors at play, and analyze the combined impact of these factors on the overall quality of cost estimation. The method used is a quantitative approach through the distribution of questionnaires to parties involved in the project, including the Project Implementation Unit (PPK), contractors, consultants, and technical teams. Data analysis was conducted using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS 22. The results of the study revealed three significant main groups of factors, namely estimator competence, information availability, and cost estimation calculation quality. Among the three, estimator competence was the most dominant factor. The research instrument was found to be valid and reliable with KMO values > 0.5 and Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.6. The conclusions of this study emphasize the importance of enhancing estimator capacity through continuous training, providing accurate cost databases, and standardizing estimation procedures. These efforts are expected to promote budget efficiency and improve the overall success of government construction projects.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between business strategy and small culinary enterprise performance. Besides, this study also examines the role of management control systems as moderating variables between business strategy and the performance of small enterprises. Thirty small culinary enterprises are participating in this study. This study uses the primary data collected through a survey. There are three types of variables in this study: dependent variable (performance), independent variables (business strategy) and moderating variables (management control system). Small Enterprise performance has twelve items. Business strategy is divided into two variables: cost leadership strategy and differentiation strategy and these variables have seven items each. Like business strategy, a management control system (MCS) also has two types of variables: diagnostic MCS and interactive MCS. These variables have five items for each. This study uses the structural equation model (SEM-PLS) by applying smart-pls. The result shows that only one hypothesis was accepted: a significant positive relationship between cost leadership strategy and small enterprise performance. Theoretically, this study contributes to the resources-based theory. This finding can be used to improve small enterprise performance by implementing a low-cost strategy

Abstract

The research method used is a quantitative approach, which collects primary. Primary data was obtained through a survey. The results of the analysis show that the quality of organizational communication has a significant positive influence on individual readiness for change. In addition, it was found that commitment to change moderates this relationship, where the influence of organizational communication quality on individual readiness for change becomes stronger under conditions of high commitment to change. These findings show the importance of paying attention to the quality of organizational communication and building commitment to change in managing change in the work environment. The practical implication of this research is that organizations need to improve effective internal communication and strengthen commitment to change among employees.

Abstract

Burnout in health workers often leads to high turnover intention, which can disrupt the stability of hospital services. With adequate organisational support, perceived organizational support (POS) is considered to have the capacity to act as a mediator. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between burnout and turnover intention at Aisyiah Hospital, Pariaman City and the role of POS as a moderator variable in health workers. This study employed a quantitative approach, collecting primary data through a survey using a 1-5 Likert scale. The research sample was 40 health workers selected as respondents. Data analysis employed SmartPLS with the Multivariate Analysis (MMA) method and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS). The results showed that stress had a significant effect on turnover intention. In addition, the study showed that POS moderated the relationship between stress and turnover intention, meaning that organisational support affected burnout and the willingness of health workers to leave their jobs. These results suggest that increasing POS can be a useful approach to reducing the desire to leave work due to fatigue. Therefore, to retain qualified health workers, hospital management must strengthen organisational support, including recognition, attention to employee welfare, and pro-employee policies.
