Abstract

Vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and body temperature, are essential indicators of physiological responses to exercise. Environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity may alter these responses, yet limited evidence exists regarding their effect during indoor training in tropical climates. This study aimed to analyze differences in vital sign responses between individuals performing gymnastics-based strength training in air-conditioned (AC) and non-AC fitness centers in Medan Petisah District, Medan. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest two-group design was applied with 100 male participants aged 18–30 years who routinely engaged in gymnastics-based exercise. Participants were divided into two groups: training in AC gyms and training in non-AC gyms. Vital signs, namely heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, and body temperature, were measured before and after a standardized 30-minute session. Data analysis used the Independent t-test with a significance threshold of p<0.05. The findings showed no statistically significant differences in heart rate (p=0.184), systolic blood pressure (p=0.263), diastolic blood pressure (p=0.714), respiratory rate (p=0.114), and body temperature (p=0.380) between the AC and non-AC groups. These results indicate that short-term strength training produces similar physiological responses regardless of the presence of air conditioning. Strength training in both AC and non-AC environments demonstrated comparable impacts on vital signs. Although environmental comfort may differ, acute physiological adaptation remained stable. Further studies should involve diverse participants, longer training durations, and additional physiological variables to deepen understanding.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the musculoskeletal disorders commonly experienced by adults due to unergonomic posture, excessive activity, and degenerative processes. This condition causes pain in the lower back which can hinder daily activities and reduce the quality of life. This study aims to determine the effect of physiotherapy on pain intensity in LBP patients at Kabanjahe General Hospital in 2025. The research method used was descriptive analytics with a cross-sectional design. The sample amounted to 100 adult respondents who were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through questionnaires and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) measurements, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant difference between pain intensity before and after physiotherapy (p = 0.001). There was a decrease in the proportion of severe pain from 30% to 10% and an increase in mild pain from 20% to 60% after physiotherapy. Of the three modalities used—InfraRed (IR), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), and William Flexion Exercise—TENS provided the most effective results in reducing pain (75%), followed by IR (70%) and William Flexion Exercise (65%). Risk factors such as old age, long working hours, high body mass index, and poor posture also affect pain levels. In conclusion, physiotherapy has been shown to be effective in reducing pain intensity in LBP sufferers, particularly through a combination of electrotherapy modalities and regular physical exercise.

Abstract

. Acne vulgaris represents one of the most prevalent dermatological conditions affecting adolescents and young adults, with significant psychosocial consequences including reduced self-esteem and quality of life. Despite the high prevalence of acne among Indonesian adolescents (60-80%), comprehensive investigations examining personal hygiene practices and dietary patterns as modifiable risk factors remain limited. This study aimed to examine the relationship between personal hygiene practices and acne vulgaris severity among medical students at Universitas Prima Indonesia. This descriptive cross-sectional study enrolled 197 medical students from the 2022 cohort using total sampling technique. Data were collected through personal hygiene questionnaires, dietary pattern questionnaires, and clinical acne assessment using the Pillsbury classification system. Statistical analysis employed chi-square tests and Spearman correlation coefficient with significance set at p<0.05. Results demonstrated a statistically significant relationship between personal hygiene practices and acne severity (p=0.000), with respondents maintaining good hygiene exhibiting lower acne grades (34.5% Grade 1) compared to poor hygiene (18.8% Grade 1). Similarly, dietary patterns significantly influenced acne outcomes (p=0.000), with high glycemic index foods and excessive dairy consumption correlating with increased acne severity through hyperinsulinemia and elevated insulin-like growth factor-1. Personal hygiene practices and dietary patterns represent modifiable behavioral factors contributing to acne vulgaris severity in medical students, supporting development of targeted prevention and educational intervention strategies.
