Abstract

The current COVID-19 pandemic has become a serious threat and difficult challenge for global health. This detrimental condition increases nurses' workload, the risk of fatigue and can cause stress on nurses that can induce burnout. Untreated burnout must be examined thoroughly because it can lead to a decrease of nurses’ performance and prompted to nursing errors that will affect the quality of health services and patient care outcomes. However study related to nursing burnout is still rarely performed. This scoping review aimed to identify several factors related to burnout in nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted between January-March 2021 by searching and analyzing all eligible studies from several electronic databases including ProQuest, Science Direct, Scopus, and Springer Link for related articles published from 2019 to 2021. The following terms were used in the search: burnout, nursing burnout, cause of nursing burnout, and COVID-19. A systematic process using The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and a Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline were carried out in the review process. A total of 10 article journals were finally selected of 343 studies. Sociodemographic factors (female, marriage, having child, education qualification, age, and ethnicity), psychological factors (depression, stress, anxiety, resilience, and self-efficacy), and also occupational factors (workload, job demands, working environment, working as a front line worker, direct contact with a COVID-19 patient, availability of personal protective equipment, and salary) were identified as factors that influenced burnout syndrome among nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Keywords: Nurse; Burnout; Covid-19; Pandemic; Nursing Manager

Abstract

Background: Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is a social pshycological theory which explained that someone's tendency to behave is affected by their intention. This theory often used to predict behavioral intention in health workers by measuring some aspects such as attitude, subjective norm and self efficacy. As a prospective health worker who equipped with knowledge and skills about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) during education phase, nursing students are expected to have a good intentions to become bystander CPR in Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). Aims: This study intends to apply TPB in identifying factors that influence nursing student’s intention to perform bystander CPR. Methods: This was a quantitative study with cross-sectional approach. The research population were undergraduate nursing student in Malang, while the 108 samples were taken using proportional sampling technique. Data were collected once using questionnaire included: attitude, subjective norm, self efficacy and intention to be a bystander CPR. Results: Chi-square test revealed that the relationship between independent variables and intention to be a bystander CPR were: attitude p=0,00, self efficacy p=0,00 and subjective norm p=0,00. The result of multivariate analysis with logistic regression showed that: attitude p=0,004 (OR=5,279), subjective norm p=0,001 (OR=5,824) and self efficacy p=0,001 (OR=5,709). Conclusion: There were significant relationship between attitude, subjective norm and self efficacy with intention, where subjective norm was the most dominant factor associated with intention of nursing student to be a bystander CPR.

Abstract

The incident of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) increased every year. One of effort to enhance survival rate due to the incident is by increasing the number of bystander CPR. Besides of a good knowledge and skill about CPR, the tendency of someone for willing or unwilling to behave as a bystander CPR is strongly influenced by their behavioral intention. The aims of this research was to analyze various factors that influence behavioral intention of nursing students to become a bystander CPR. This was a cross-sectional study with proportional sampling tecnique. As a sample of this study were 108 students from various nursing institution in Malang. Multivariat analysis with logistic regression was used to identify the most dominant factor which influencing behavioral intention. Logistic regression showed the following result: age p=0,341, OR=1,683; gender p=0,022, OR=3,113; CPR experience=0,327, OR=1,808 and knowledge: p=0,007, OR=3,101. The result of this study conclude that knowledge about CPR is the most dominant predictor factor in influencing behavioral intention.

Abstract

Introduction: Nursing students' attitudes toward clinical rotation education, play an important role in increasing their motivation to achieve goals, alertness, and ability to capture complex information. A positive attitude tends to encourage students to improve the quality and effectiveness of learning. While negative attitudes tend to decrease motivation, student interaction, attendance, and respect for staff in the clinic. The attitude toward clinical duties is a widely used instrument to identify nursing students' attitudes during clinical rotation learning which is available in English. Therefore, this study aims to adapt this instrument into an Indonesian version, so that a valid and reliable instrument is obtained. Method: This was a descriptive quantitative study carried out in February-March 2023, through the stages of forward translation, synthesis, backward translation, expert review, and instrument testing based on Beaton's cross-cultural adaptation framework. This study involved 33 nursing clinical rotation students, using a Consecutive sampling technique. The Correlation validity was tested using Pearson Product Moment with 95% CI (p=0.05) and Cronbach alpha was used to identify the internal consistency. Results: The mean I-CVI and S-CVI/Ave of the instrument was 1.00. The results showed that 19 of the 25 question items tested had an r-count larger than the r-table (>0.344). The internal consistency test using Cronbach alpha showed a value of α = 0.916. Conclusions: The Indonesian version of the attitude towards clinical duties instrument with 19 questions has good content validity with excellent internal consistency value.

Abstract

Background : Nurses in the Emergency Department (ED) have a higher workload compared to nurses in other units due to the increase in patient numbers, insufficient nursing staff, complex cases, time demands, and limited facilities. Therefore, regular workload assessments are crucial to optimize performance and healthcare service quality. Objective : This study aimed to understand the perception of nurse workload in the ED of hospitals in the Sleman region. Method : This research was a descriptive analytical study with a cross-sectional approach involving 122 nurses in the ED of Sleman Regional Hospital. The study measured nurses' workload perception using Nursalam's (2017) nurse workload questionnaire, covering job activities, types of tasks, and time usage. Univariate analysis was used to describe respondents' characteristics and nurses' workload perception in four EDs in the Sleman region, including RSUP Dr. Sardjito, RSA UGM, RSUD Sleman, and RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping. Result : The research findings indicated that the average perception of nurse workload in the ED of Sleman Regional Hospital was 30,8 (SD±9,2), interpreted as a moderate workload. Job activities emerged as the highest domain with an average of 11,3 (SD±3,7) and the statement item with the highest average was direct nurse-patient contact in the ED at 2,7 (SD±1). Conclusion : The overall perception of nurse workload in the ED of Sleman Regional Hospital indicated a moderate workload. The results of this research could serve as a basis for the hospital's ED in formulating policies related to nurse workload.

Abstract

Injuries contribute to disability and morbidity in countries around the world. Among the elderly, falls are the most common type of injury, with an incidence rate of approximately 2.3–7% per 1,000 individuals. Injuries can lead to physical impairments, including reduced limb function. In the elderly population, particularly those aged 65 years and older, injuries are associated with a high risk of mortality and severe disability. Preventing injuries and falls is a critical public health concern. Families serve as essential support systems for addressing injuryrelated issues within households and the surrounding environment. This activity aimed to provide families with education on preventing and managing injuries in vulnerable populations. Health education sessions were delivered to health cadres and community members through lectures, discussions, and expert-led questionand-answer sessions. Educational materials included PowerPoint presentations and pocketbooks. At the conclusion of the sessions, a group demonstration was conducted on the management of splints in community settings. Knowledge was assessed using a questionnaire developed based on the health education materials. Fall risk screening was conducted using the First Time Injury Falls (FIF) instrument. The results revealed that among the 27 respondents, knowledge levels significantly improved after the educational sessions (p-value < 0.05). Fall risk screening outcomes indicated that 20 respondents (74.1%) were at low risk for falls, 5 respondents (18.5%) were at moderate risk, and 2 respondents (7.4%) were at high risk. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that health education is effective in enhancing family knowledge about injury prevention and management in vulnerable populations.
