Abstract

A narrative commonly found within the discourse of nationalist archaeology is the polemic of ideology at the expense of empiricism. There are many examples of the manipulation of archaeological data in the service of the state’s nationalist or imperialist ideology, and such efforts produce narratives in which archaeology is treated as inherently apolitical. This paper explores the interactions between and within multiple stakeholders –the state, archaeologists, and the media – and their roles in the construction of national myths, and their consequences for local populations. It highlights recent controversies surrounding the re-interpretation of the megalithic site of Gunung Padang in Western Java, Indonesia. The case of Gunung Padang offers an opportunity to observe how national myths are both constructed and contested in recent times. This paper argues that the intersections between archaeology and popular media contributed to a skewed understanding of the past and generated specific categories of acceptable national myths which, in turn, directed nationalistic research.

Abstract

The Baduys are rice farming communities who rely on nature and the forest. Therefore, they keep and maintain their forests through customs and cultural practices. Dudungusan is preserved forest, prohibited for cultivation. Garapan is the land that can be processed into fields (huma), following the needs and rules of cultivation. Although the Baduys live in groups in small villages at the foot and slopes of hills or mountains, they keep and follow their local wisdom. This is evident from the review and the community activities that have been done earlier. There are records of the knowledge, views, and understanding of the old and young Baduys about forest conservation and identifying existing problems. The method used is the dissemination and sharing of knowledge. The results of the data collection and identification of the reference model of socialization, or carean, are used to understand the local knowledge about forest conservation. The Baduy residents in Kampong Balimbing who are involved in the research are the kokolot, or the class of older generation, whereas the youth group are participating in the process. In general, the activity is well-shared for both for the older and younger generation. In addition to this, the residents of other Baduy villages may learn from Kampong Balimbing’s wisdom.

Abstract

This study investigates stress and emotion management strategies among teachers in Japanese and Indonesian state schools, focusing on how cultural factors and emotional intelligence influence coping mechanisms. Using a qualitative literature review, the research synthesizes findings from studies published over the last decade. The analysis identifies key themes, including the distinct cultural approaches of each country. Japanese teachers predominantly employ structured professional development and mindfulness practices, reflecting cultural values of self-discipline and emotional control. Conversely, Indonesian teachers rely on community-based support and spirituality, rooted in their communal and religious traditions. The findings highlight the central role of emotional intelligence in managing stress, improving resilience, and fostering effective teaching practices in both settings. Challenges such as high workloads, student discipline, and the rapid shift to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic underscore the need for robust coping strategies. The study concludes that culturally tailored interventions, such as mindfulness training for Japanese teachers and community-based workshops for Indonesian teachers, are essential for enhancing teacher well-being and effectiveness. Policymakers and educators should prioritize emotional intelligence development and supportive school environments to address these challenges comprehensively

Abstract

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a non-communicable disease where systolic blood pressure is ≥ 140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure is ≥ 90 mmHg. If hypertension is not treated, it will cause vascular diseases such as stroke, retinopathy, kidney damage, heart swelling, and coronary heart disease. This community service activity (PkM) aims to increase knowledge and compliance with taking medication for hypertension sufferers in RW 13, Karangroto Village, Genuk, and Semarang through education, counseling, and health checks. PkM activities include the preparatory stage in the form of a Family Approach Healthy Indonesia Program (PIS-PK) survey and village community deliberations and pre-tests. Implementation of PkM includes group exercise and education about compliance with taking medication for hypertension, blood pressure, and blood glucose checks. The evaluation results show that knowledge and attitudes towards adherence to hypertension medication have increased significantly (p <0.005) compared to before PkM. Education and health checks are useful as an effort to improve compliance with taking hypertension medication, so it is hoped that they can reduce the risk of complications in sufferers.
