Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of science literacy at the Physics Education Study Program UIN Walisongo Semarang by using the International Student Assessment (PISA) Model Test Instrument. Science literacy is measured based on the ability of students in analyzing, applying concepts, and using a scientific approach in the context of basic mechanics, especially in business material, energy, and power. This study involved students of Physics Education UIN Walisongo Semarang with test data showing the highest score of 84, lowest 16, and an average of 32 of the maximum score of 100. Analysis of the indicator of competency achievement shows a significant variation between the eight aspects measured. The highest indicator is the ability to analyze and apply the concept of relationship between business and kinetic energy and potential energy (39%), followed by the application of scientific methods in the concept of kinetic and potential energy (36%). Meanwhile, the lowest indicator is found in the aspect of analyzing and applying the concept of relationship between business and mechanical energy changes (16%) as well as the application of scientific methods in the concept of mechanical energy (26%). These findings indicate that students tend to experience difficulties in integrating scientific approaches and complex conceptual understanding. The results of this study indicate that the literacy of physics education students is still at a low level, with the dominance of factual and conceptual abilities that have not fully developed to the analytical and applicative levels. Therefore, innovation is needed in the learning approach and assessment that is oriented towards strengthening scientific thinking and transfers cross -context concepts. This study made an important contribution in the development of PISA -based science literacy assessment for higher education in the field of physics education, as well as supporting the strengthening of 21st century competencies in science education in Islamic tertiary institutions.

Abstract

Culture is a vital entity passed down through generations. In the context of Indonesian education, the tradition of shaking hands and greetings holds a high urgency as a manifestation of noble character. This research is motivated by the need to strengthen character education in schools to address the decline in ethics and students' respect for educators. The main focus of this study is to analyze the implications of preserving the culture of shaking hands and greetings when meeting teachers on the formation of students' polite character. The research method applies a systematic literature study by reviewing various relevant journals over the past five years. The findings show that greetings are not merely verbal greetings, but contain a prayer for safety and a deep value of tolerance. The habit of shaking hands and greetings has consistently been proven to be able to shape polite behavior, improve the ethics of verbal and non-verbal communication, and strengthen emotional bonds and Islamic brotherhood between teachers and students. The main conclusion emphasizes that this cultural integration is very effective as an instrument for forming polite character, so it is worth preserving not only in the academic environment, but also implemented widely in students' social interactions in society.

Abstract

Dormitory-based students frequently encounter academic and social pressures that may elevate stress, whereas habitual physical activity and sleep quality are presumed to play protective roles. This study examined the associations of physical activity and sleep quality with stress levels among dormitory students at STIKes Persada Husada Indonesia in 2025. A cross-sectional design with total sampling yielded 69 participants. Physical activity was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI; scores >5 indicate poor sleep), and stress with the stress subscale of the DASS-42. Bivariable analyses employed Chi-square tests with Cramer’s V and Spearman correlations at α=0.05. Results indicated significant associations between stress and age (p=0.007), physical activity (p=0.030), and sleep quality (p=0.007), whereas sex was not associated with stress (p=0.966). Descriptively, students reporting moderate-intensity physical activity were more likely to fall within the normal stress category, while poor sleep quality tended to be associated with moderate-to-severe stress. These findings underscore the relevance of promoting consistent moderate-intensity physical activity and sleep hygiene in dormitory settings as both preventive and supportive measures. Practical implications include structured fitness programs, stress-management education, and academic scheduling that preserves recovery time. In conclusion, fostering moderate levels of physical activity alongside improving sleep quality may contribute to lower stress among dormitory students and merits consideration in student welfare policies.
