Abstract

Abstract

Optimized use of calcareous soil in dryland areas needs to begin with rehabilitation efforts using soil amendments, including organic fertilizer and biochar. This study sought to determine whether kinds of soil amendments and mycorrhizal biofertilizers may enhance the chemical quality of calcareous soils and increase the yield of sorghum on dry land. The study was conducted at the experimental garden of the Agricultural Extension Center located in Oelnasi Village from April to August of 2023. Two criteria included in the study were the kind of soil amendment and mycorrhizal biological fertilizer, both of which were arranged in a randomized block design. The parameters observed were soil chemical properties, plant N and P nutrient uptake, and sorghum yield. The research results showed that the application of three types of soil amendments (P1 = cow dung, P2 = rice straw compost, and P3 = corncob biochar) improved the chemical quality of calcareous soil. This application of corncob biochar could significantly reduce soil pH from 7.85 (slightly alkaline) to 7.19 (neutral) and increase soil organic C to 2.55% C, followed by treatment with cow dung and rice straw compost. Other soil chemical properties, i.e., N, P, K, and soil CEC, also improved, which differed from the control treatment. The mycorrhizal biofertilizer provided could also improve the chemical properties of calcareous soil. Providing mycorrhizal biofertilizer could increase the N and P nutrient uptake of sorghum plants by 3.79% dry weight-1 and 2.18% dry weight-1, respectively, as well as increased sorghum yields, respectively by 4.04 t ha-1, 3.97 t ha-1 and 3.87 t ha-1 dry beans, higher than the control which only achieved 2.32 t ha-1 dry beans.

Abstract

The decline in the quality of agricultural land due to residues of synthetic chemical inputs is a serious problem being faced in agricultural development in Indonesia. Starting from these problems an important issue of sustainable agricultural development is organic farming. This research has been carried out on CV. GS Organic in 2023, with the aim of a) describing the process of adopting organic farming innovations at CV. GS Organic, b) describes the internal factors and external factors that influence the adoption of organic farming innovations in CV. GS Organic, c) describes the type of organic farming decision making in CV. GS Organic. This type of research is qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection methods are by observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The data analysis method uses the interactive Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that the factors that determine the adoption of innovation in CV. Organic GS is the initiative of the farmers themselves, as well as the factors that influence farmers' decision making, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal Factors: a) Cosmopolitan Level, b) Motivation. External Factors: a) Reference Group, b) Sources of Information, c) Characteristics of Innovation. Farmers' perceptions of the characteristics of innovation that determine innovation adoption are relative advantages from an economic standpoint, advantages from a social prestige perspective, relative advantages from a convenience standpoint, conformity with espoused values, conformity with prevailing norms, conformity with farmer's needs, trialability (Triability). in a small area, ability is observed from technical advantages, ability is observed from the point of view of economic advantage. The type of decision made on the CV. Organic GS in making decisions, namely optional decisions.

Abstract

Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province is categorized as a natural disaster-prone area with various threats. Based on BNPB data, Kupang Regency is among the 10 high-risk districts in NTT Province during 2015-2022, with a disaster risk index value of 173.50 in 2022, which has increased by 5.02 compared to 2020. The results of the pre-research found that the communities in Merbaun and Toobaun villages, Kupang Regency have various hereditary local wisdom in managing nature. These local wisdoms are believed to have the potential to become traditional communication tools for disaster mitigation to make the community disaster resilient. Therefore, this research aims to explore the forms of local wisdom that act as folk media for disaster crisis communication and build a crisis communication model through the utilization of local wisdom. This research uses a constructivistic paradigm with a qualitative research type. The research method uses a case study with data collection techniques of in-depth interviews, and involved observation. The data analysis technique uses the Miles Huberman interactive model. The results showed that the community empowered local wisdom as a traditional communication tool for the benefit of disaster crisis communication. These folk media can be classified into several types, namely shouting, climate-friendly agricultural systems, traditional early warning systems, and oral and written customary laws.

Abstract

The diffusion of innovation begins with the adoption of innovation to increase the productivity of corn farming so that a study of the innovation diffusion process is needed. The double track innovation is an innovation on how to grow corn which has been proven to be able to increase corn productivity by increasing the number of tillers in one hectare. This research was conducted from March to June 2023 with the objectives of 1) analyzing the main actors in spreading double track innovation among corn farmers participating in the TJPS program, 2) analyzing the relationship between socio-economic factors and the process of spreading double track innovation. The research location in Manusak Village, East Kupang District, Kupang Regency was chosen deliberately because it is the first and widest location for implementing the 'double track' innovation in the CSR program. The survey method was used in collecting data on 83 respondents. To answer the first objective, the data were analyzed using the analysis of the structure of the communication network with the sociogram approach, and the second objective was analyzed using the Spearman Rank Correlation Test (rs). The research results are: 1). As the main actor in the diffusion of double track innovation in corn cultivation in the TJPS program, the farmer with the first serial number, Mr. Foris, became a source of information for 24 farmers with a percentage of 29%. 2). Socio-economic factors that have a real relationship with the flow of innovation diffusion are the age of the farmer, the education of the farmer and the dependents of the farmer's family, on the other hand the area of land has no real relationship. The implication of this research is that in increasing the diffusion of innovations in farming communities it is hoped that they will utilize local-level change agents or key actors so that innovation spreads to all farmers, increase the role of millennials in the process of adoption and diffusion of innovations and apply effective agricultural extension models.
