Abstract

Seven districts in Papua experienced an increase in measles cases during the Covid pandemic, namely Nabire, Paniai, Mimika, Puncak, Dogiyai, Intan Jaya, and Deiyai. So far, there is no policy that is truly effective in efforts to increase the coverage of measles immunization in pandemic areas such as Papua. The objectives to develop a policy brief that can provide recommendations for increasing the coverage of measles immunization in pandemic areas. This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive design. The instrument was a questionnaire distributed online, in Papua Province and held in July-August 2023. The population was 120 health workers. The inclusion criteria were nurses who are directly involved in the management of measles in Papua. The exclusion criteria were health workers in Papua or outside Papua and those who do not treat measles. The dependent variable was measles. The independent variable was immunization coverage. The secondary data were taken from official government documents or WHO and the Indonesian Ministry of Health and reputable journals. Data processing was carried out univariately and analyzed descriptively. The results showed the majority of respondents were involved in the measles program (n=62 or 54.3%), witnessed an increase in measles cases during the pandemic (n=87 or 76.3%), and considered the measles management program to be ineffective (n=69 or 59.3%). The most influential factors in the decrease in the measles vaccination rate were a mixture of fear, lack of knowledge, and culture (n: 59 or 52%) The majority think it is necessary to make changes to the measles program policy (n: 82 or 72%) The aspect that was most needed in policy changes was a combination of mechanisms, human resource facilities, and procedures (n=33 or 29%). This study recommends a policy brief on double-ring vaccination, namely the administration of measles vaccination in two areas surrounding the area affected by the measles outbreak.

Abstract

The biggest challenge of today's health problems is still related to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS). HIV and AIDS still have a negative stigma in society and are the cause of sufferers, still receiving bad treatment by their families. Every two minutes, one teenage girl or young woman is infected with HIV. In 2021, an estimated 250,000 teenage girls or young women are infected with HIV. The purpose of this community service is for teenagers and the community to recognize early on the signs of people with HIV and AIDS and to stay away from promiscuity which is one of the causes of the increase in HIV and AIDS. The implementation method is carried out by educating teenagers at the high school level aged 15-19 years and the community in Sannggaria Village. The implementation of education is carried out by providing lectures and video presentations explaining early sexual education. The results of the implementation of early sexual education for teenagers showed that 30 teenagers and 20 parents participated in the activity. The results of the knowledge evaluation showed that 90.75% of teenagers understood the material given. There are still teenagers who lack of understanding because in the middle of the process there were obstacles in absorbing information because the teenager had to attend other activities. Conclusion: adolescents' knowledge about HIV and AIDS is good but it needs to be emphasized in families to always supervise their teenagers.

Abstract

High blood sugar levels can hasten the liver's production of triglycerides. Normally, the body uses glucose as one of its energy sources. This study aimed to determine changes in the weight of mice and decrease triglyceride levels in mice by administering Moringa leaf extract. This type of research is a pure experiment with a "pre and post-randomized controlled group" design. This was carried out using a repeated ANOVA test, a sample of 25 mice. The research used male white rats of the Wistar strain, which were induced with STZ (Streptozotocin) at a dose of 65 mg/kg BW and NA 230 mg/kg BW, where the experimental animals were divided into 5 groups, namely negative control group, positive control and 3 treatment groups given the extract. from Moringa leaves at a dose of 200, 300, 400 mg/kg BW of rats. The optimal dose of Moringa leaves for losing weight and reducing triglyceride levels in mice is a dose of 400 mg/kg of mouse body weight. Glibenclamide (0.09 mg/kg rat body weight) and Moringa leaf extract (300 mg/kg rat body weight) are each the optimal dose to reduce glucose levels in rats. With a p value for each variable of 0.001, administration of Moringa leaf extract affected body weight, glucose and triglyceride levels in white Wistar rats with type 2 diabetes induced by streptozotocin. These findings suggest that Moringa leaf extract may have potential therapeutic effects in treating diabetes-related complications.
