Abstract

Abstract

The spread of anti-sexual violence campaigns on social media such as the #metoo, #kitaAgni and #namabaikkampus movements raises public awareness about the issue. This can be seen in the rejection and public anger related to the news about the glorification of sex offenders who incidentally was a public figure when he was released from prison which was published in online media. Therefore, this article examines the implications of anti-sexual violence discourse on the glorification of sexual offenders in online media by using critical discourse analysis by Sara Mills which focuses on the position of subject-object and the position of readers in the news. This article shows that there is a discourse battle between the sex offenders who show resistance while the public continues to reject it simultaneously.

Abstract

The interaction between ethnic groups in a social sphere is always related to integration issues. Moreover, the Indonesian people are diverse with their inherent cultural identities. The pattern of interaction between the Chinese and several local ethnic groups in Indonesia has been investigated by various parties, including in Medan, Bengkalis, and Yogyakarta. The results of the three studies show that the interaction between these groups only occurs in the economic realm. It causes the inability to merge in the assimilation process. The author wants to examine why the pattern of interaction between ethnic Chinese and local communities does not reach the point of assimilation by using literature study as methodology. The analysis shows that the relationship among them is not in close proximity but more at public distance. Such a distance happened because the relationship patterns between these groups are fragmented then induces the emergence of organic solidarity among them.

Abstract

There is no body established outside of history. The body continues to suffer simultaneous redefinition even in the current day. In certain cultures and civilizations, the human body is the site of ideological interpretation. The fashion industry controls ideal body standards through modeling agencies, which have evolved into body training facilities that draw the attention of many young women. Using phenomenological research and Alfred Schutz's theory as an analytical tool, this study investigates body ideals that are myths for modern women. This study finds that the models share a common stock of knowledge when it comes to gazing at the body, which is known as intersubjectivity. Body knowledge is transferred through modeling schools and parents participation. Although the fashion industry's body standards are unclear and lack defined benchmarks, the model assumes that the body training procedure is not a burden but rather a kind of responsibility for their job professionally.

Abstract

Women who identify as divorcees are frequently marginalized and treated as second-class citizens within society. Preliminary findings from this study reveal that divorcees encounter significant hardships resulting from stigmatization post-divorce. This stigmatization not only leads to social contempt but also exposes divorcees to verbal and even sexual violence from individuals around them. This research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach to explore (1) the manifestations of stigma against divorcees and (2) the social consequences of divorcee stigma within the Sasak community in Kec. Kopang, Kab. Lombok Tengah. The findings indicate that (1) divorcees face stigma from their communities, experiencing social contempt and ridicule due to their status. Additionally, some participants reported instances of sexual harassment, including receiving inappropriate images via chat from several male acquaintances, one of whom was a relative. Catcalling was also identified as a form of harassment. (2) The presence of this stigma has notable social implications by developing mechanisms of social distancing. The divorcees tend to distance themselves from others through two main strategies: reducing social interactions and by developing a resilient mentality towards the stigma, especially for those who must engage with others for professional reasons.

Abstract

The inability to express feelings, difficulty and confusion in making decisions, fear of making mistakes, and dependence on the approval of others are common challenges faced by peer counselors. This research aims to enhance the ability of peer counselors to behave assertively through assertiveness training. The research method used is pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study involved 14 peer counselors as research subjects. The instrument used is the Assertive Behavior Inventory, which consists of 33 statement items. The research findings indicate that assertiveness training interventions can improve assertive behavior. This is evidenced by the results of the paired sample t-test, which show that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. This suggests a significant difference in assertive behavior between the pre-test and post-test results, confirming the effectiveness of assertiveness training in enhancing assertive behavior among peer counselors. This study highlights the importance of strengthening peer counselor competencies, particularly assertive behavior skills, which play a crucial role in the success of the peer counseling service process.
