Abstract

Background: Not much is known about the impact of health education in reducing anxiety levels in pre-cataract surgery patients in Indonesia. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of counseling and lecture methods using leaflet in reducing anxiety levels  among pre-cataract surgery patients in Central Java, Indonesia. Methods: This was quasi experiment with pretest- posttest design with two comparative groups at two hospitals in November 2014. It was 70 preoperative cataract patients selected using total sampling, which 35 randomly assigned to intervention group 1 and intervention group 2. The Analog Anxiety Scale (AAS) was used to measure anxiety levels. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test.Results: There was a significant effect of health education using counseling and lecture method with leaflet media in reducing anxiety levels among preoperative cataract patients (p=.001). A counseling method was more effective than lecture method in dealing with anxiety levels (p=.001).Conclusion: Findings of this study can be used as a basis for development of nursing intervention in the hospital setting to reduce the anxiety levels among pre-cataract surgery patients.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the development of new learning systems that are more student-centered. Unfortunately, elementary school students experienced stress and difficulties in adapting from face-to-face to online learning system. Online learning environment lacks in accommodating outdoor activities which are important for children. Several techniques can be applied to reduce stress, including dancing. This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of Traditional Art dance Therapy (TATA) for elementary school students in reducing stress. In this quasi-experimental research, one-group pretest-posttest design without control group was applied, involving 84 students at one elementary school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Students’ levels of stress were measured using the school-based stressors scale and were analyzed using bivariate Wilcoxon test. The results of the data analysis showed that older students had relatively lower stress levels than younger ones. A significant decrease in stress (p < 0.001) from 61.90 to 41.99 was identified between the stress levels before and after the implementation of TATA. It concludes that TATA effectively reduces the stress levels among elementary school students adapting to the new learning system in the new normal era after COVID-19 pandemic. Keywords: elementary school, stress, traditional art dance therapy   Abstrak Terapi Tari Seni Tradisional (TATA) untuk Mengurangi Tingkat Stress pada Siswa Sekolah Dasar. Abstract

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been demonstrated to disrupt the body's immune response, adversely affecting the reproductive system. Consequently, this study has focused on the changes in the menstruation patterns of survivors of the disease in women of reproductive age with asymptomatic, mild, and severe cases. This study employed an observational cross-sectional approach. The sample comprised 207 women who had recovered from COVID-19 within the past six months and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling technique utilized consecutive sampling, and menstrual characteristics were assessed using a questionnaire. Several respondents in the severe group experienced changes in their menstrual patterns. Their duration of menstruation was shortened by 11.11%, and 13.58% had a more extended menstrual period. Some respondents’ cycles were elongated by 20.98%, some decreased their initial menstrual volume by 32.09%, and some increased by 27.16%. Meanwhile, their menstrual volume decreased by 17.28% at the end of menstruation, and their duration lengthened by 24.69%. 12.1% of respondents also reported changes in menstrual regularity. Additionally, 19.75% of respondents stated that their menstrual pain decreased, and 13.58% had increased menstrual pain. The multivariate analysis revealed that the severity of the COVID-19 infection was the primary factor influencing menstrual patterns.

Abstract

Background: Patients with lymphoma often experience various signs and symptoms that can significantly affect their quality of life. Pain and poor sleep quality are two main symptoms commonly experienced by lymphoma patients. The combination of pain and sleep disturbance can negatively impact patients' energy, mood, and ability to perform daily activities, thus requiring appropriate attention and management in the care of lymphoma patients. Objective: This study aims to apply Evidence Based Nursing Practice: Lymphoma Exercises in nursing care for patients with lymphoma using the Theory of Planned Behaviour approach. Method: This approach emphasizes the importance of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control in shaping nursing diagnoses. This framework can enhance understanding and improve patient care. The research method used is a quantitative experiment without a control group. Respondents completed questionnaires to measure pain using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and to measure sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Result: The results show that the intervention had a substantial positive impact on pain and sleep patterns of lymphoma patients. Recommendation: The reduction in pain and improvement in sleep quality can be explained through several potential mechanisms

Abstract

Cancer patients often experience a variety of signs and symptoms that can significantly impact their quality of life. This research aims to apply the Theory of Planned Behavior to nursing care for cancer patients. This approach emphasizes the importance of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control in forming nursing diagnoses. n the context of cancer patients, understanding the factors of the Theory of Planned Behavior, namely attitudes toward the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, can help identify effective interventions to improve medication adherence, the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, and participation in follow-up care. This framework can increase understanding and improve patient care. The research method used is a case study approach. The research results show that the application of the Theory of Planned Behavior allows nurses to provide holistic care involving various aspects of cancer patients' lives including physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cultural. By understanding the concept of the Theory of Planned Behavior, nurses can recognize that changing a patient's behavioral habits requires planning, where from an accepting attitude to becoming a habit of carrying out therapy requires a process and needs support from both family and health workers so that goals and outcomes can be achieved.
