Abstract

Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance is one of dances that has experienced a changing of form from spontaneous to organized performance since 2016. The management and the change done by Barongan Risang Guntur Seto artists have altered the simple values of traditional performing art to be a glamorous values or it is called gebyarby Blora people. The purpose of this research is to analyze and to describe the change of form and value of Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance.Theoretically, this research used qualitative method with interdisciplinary approach of science, they are ethnochoreology and Arts Sociology. The technique of data collection was done by observation, interview and document study. The data validity checking used source triangulation. The data analysis was done by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results show that the chane of form and value of Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance performance involves movement, music, property, stage, and lighting. The suggestion for artists of Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance is to always active in renewing the dance in accordance to the era and to always be consistent in emphasizing the simplicity and family values as an identity of Blora people.

Abstract

Barongan Blora is a traditional folk dance in Central Java that has existed since 1830. The passage of time brings up new social conceptions that influence the implementation of Barongan performances, particularly those relating to gender. This research aims to look into the gender roles of Barongan dancers and how they interact with social and cultural components of society. Gender interpretation aims to understand the social construction of men’s and women’s roles in society. These roles include male and female dancers whose motions express diverse traits while maintaining the performance’s significant values. This study employs a qualitative research design with case studies on various Barongan groups in Blora, Indonesia. In May 2023, data was gathered through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results suggest that cat motions dominate the Barongan dance steps, which are supported by strong, energetic, and nimble characters. On the other hand, each character’s movements are tailored to the roles and the dancers who portray them. Male dancers are cast as characters who appear strong and emphasize masculine attributes, such as Barongan, Gembong Amijoyo, Joko Lodro, Untup, and Nayantaka. Meanwhile, female dancers who play male characters, such as Barongan and Jathilan, must be agile, strong, and feminine. Gender distinctions in Barongan performance can be noticed in the movements created. Still, there are no substantial disparities in physical appearance between male and female dancers because both needed a physique corresponding to the characters being played. The Barongan performance also impacts society’s social and cultural features. Regarding social qualities, Barongan embodies the populist traits of the Blora people, which are based on humanist principles. In terms of culture, Barongan Blora has evolved to keep up with changing times, yet it remains and can be appreciated by all levels of society. Due to its uniqueness, Barongan’s preservation is still carried out in line with the times while maintaining cultural values and content in physical and non-physical forms.

Abstract

Loka karya dalam konteks seni tari berarti sebuah kegiatan pelatihan praktis dan pembelajaran mendalam yang melibatkan interaksi langsung antara peserta dengan para ahli atau praktisi seni. Tujuannya adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan teknis, penghayatan, serta pemahaman terhadap seni tari tertentu melalui praktik langsung dan diskusi. Kurangnya akses langsung terhadap praktik dan pengalaman lapangan yang autentik membuat pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap nilai estetika dan filosofi tari Condong menjadi kurang optimal. Tari Condong yang merupakan bagian penting dari tradisi tari Bali ini juga memiliki ciri khas gerak dan ekspresi yang sangat spesifik, yang memerlukan pembelajaran intensif agar dapat dipahami dan diaplikasikan dengan benar. Keberagaman pola gerak yang terdapat pada tari condong menuntut seorang penari harus mampu melakukan tekniknya dengan tepat. Tidak hanya menjadi salah satu tarian iconic, tari Condong juga menjadi patokan tari dasar putri karena hampir seluruh gerak tari bali putri terangkum dalam tari Condong. Hal ini menyebabkan setiap penari wajib menuntaskan pemebelajaran mengenai teknik dari tari Condong sebelum berpindah pada tari Bali yang lain seperti tari kekebyaran maupun tari palegongan. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mahasiswa antara lain kurangnya pemahaman mendalam terhadap teknik dasar, serta keterbatasan praktik langsung dengan pengajar ahli. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan pelaksanaan loka karya sebagai strategi utama. Kegiatan ini melibatkan praktisi tari sebagai narasumber dan pelatih utama. Hasil dari loka karya menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan teknik mahasiswa, baik dari segi ketepatan gerak, ekspresi, maupun pemahaman terhadap struktur tari. Kesimpulannya, loka karya terbukti efektif sebagai sarana alternatif pembelajaran yang mampu mendukung pengembangan kemampuan teknis tari tradisional secara optimal. Setelah lokakarya diselenggarakan, 80% mahasiswa menunjukkan peningkatan presisi teknis dan ekspresifitas dalam pendalaman tari Condong serta telah mampu mengaplikasikan pengalamannya di masyarakat seperti sanggar tari maupun sekolah.
