Abstract

Magnesium has potential as an implant base material because of its properties required by human bones, such as biocompatibility, non-toxic and easily dissolved (degradability). This element is needed by the human body as much as 375 Mg / day which is stored in bone and blood tissue. Magnesium is the lightest metal which has a mass type of 1.738 gr / cm3 with a modulus of elasticity of 42 GPa which is very close to the modulus of elasticity of natural human bones 10-40 GPa and can be degraded through corrosion that occurs in body fluids containing 0.9 wt% chloride. . Pure magnesium has a high corrosion rate, so there is no need to add alloying elements which can reduce the corrosion rate and at the same time improve its mechanical properties. One of them is through the addition of rare earth alloy elements, namely gadolinium. Currently, magnesium and gadolinium alloys as biodegradable materials are mostly made by casting methods. Therefore, it is necessary to make a literature review on alloys of magnesium and gadolinium by casting methods to see the effect of adding the element gadolinium to magnesium alloys suitable for bone implants in the human body. Based on the results of a literature review of the composition of the effect of the element gadolinium (Gd) on magnesium (Mg) alloys in the casting process for implant base materials, it can be seen that the addition of Gd more than 10% will increase the mechanical properties of the Mg-Gd alloy and a composition suitable for biodegradable implants can be adjusted depending on the needs and health standards as an implant. This Mg-Gd alloy has a wide range of TYS and UTS with TYS 33 MPa-200 MPa and UTS 78 MPa-250 MPa. And the more the element gadolinium is added to magnesium, the smaller the grain size. The smaller the grain size will increase the strength and hardness of the Mg-Gd alloy. Key Words: Biodegradable implants, Pengecoran, Magnesium alloy, Unsur tanah jarang

Abstract

Abstract

The Galanggang Raya Farm livestock group in Nan Balimo Village, Tanjung Harapan District, Solok City, faces a major problem in that there are no grass choppers available to support the feed needs of goats and cattle. This problem has resulted in low feed processing efficiency, a high workload for farmers, and limited availability of quality feed. To address this, this community service activity focuses on technological innovation in the form of designing a grass chopper machine that utilizes local resources, both in terms of materials and technical expertise. The primary objective of this community service activity is to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of cattle and goat farming systems by providing a grass chopper machine capable of producing feed cuts of uniform size, thereby supporting improved feed consumption and optimal livestock growth. Additionally, the use of local components aims to reduce production costs, strengthen the local supply chain, and create new job opportunities in the surrounding farming community. The results of this activity demonstrate that the designed grass chopper machine can produce feed pieces of uniform size, in line with the desired specifications. Feed of uniform size has been proven to increase feed consumption by livestock and positively impact the growth of beef cattle. This innovation not only provides a practical and efficient solution for feed processing but also promotes local economic growth through the use of appropriate technology, strengthening farmers' capacity, and improving farm productivity.

Abstract

This activity was carried out in Nagari Cupak, Solok Regency, where local farmers still use traditional tools and manual labor to clean the husks from rice. This manual process not only takes a long time but is also inefficient in separating high-quality rice grains from empty ones. Rice is the primary agricultural product and staple food of the Indonesian people, so the quality of the rice harvest significantly impacts farmers' well-being and food security. However, rice harvests are often unsatisfactory due to the presence of empty grains that must be manually separated by farmers. Therefore, the community service team provided a solution in the form of an electric rice separator to improve work efficiency and harvest quality. This rice separator is designed to automatically separate filled and high-quality grains from empty or imperfect grains. This activity aims to design and implement a rice separator machine that can help farmers in Nagari Cupak optimize their harvest yields. The methods used include field surveys, design, training, and monitoring and evaluation. The field survey involved the team conducting direct observations of farmers regarding the actual conditions they face, designing the machine according to farmers' needs, and then conducting training for farmers on how to use the rice separator machine and monitoring the machine. The results of the tool testing showed that it could separate rice at a capacity of up to 10 kg per minute, a significant increase compared to the manual method, which could only process around 6 kg per minute.

Abstract

Spices have long been an integral part of human life, playing a vital role as traditional medicine, culinary ingredients, and components in cosmetics. Indonesia, particularly within the Southeast Asian region, is regarded as a global hub for high-quality spices. One such spice-rich area is Nagari Koto Anau, located in Solok Regency, known for its production of cloves and cinnamon. However, this significant potential has yet to be fully harnessed by local farmers due to limited processing technology—particularly the lack of spice grinding machines. As a result, farmers are only able to sell their spices in raw form at low market value, which adversely affects their income. To address this issue, the design and implementation of a spice grinding machine that can be operated directly by farmers is essential. The aim of this activity is to accelerate the spice processing workflow, improve work efficiency, and enhance the added value of spice products at the local level. The programme was carried out in Nagari Koto Anau, Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province. The methods employed included interviews, equipment design, and training on the use of the spice grinding machine. Interviews involved discussions with farmers to identify their problems and offer practical solutions, followed by designing the machine based on their specific needs. The training method included a hands-on demonstration on how to operate the spice grinder. The results showed that the spices processed using the grinder became fine and evenly ground, with a production output of up to 20 kilograms.
