In treatment process, the researchers found that the students were interested when the teacher applied word mapping strategy. The teacher was not only focused on the material but also guided the students to be more interactive in teaching and learning process. To analyze the data, the researchers used descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of data analysis showed that t-test 7.171 with t-table 1.672at the level of significance 0.50, it was shown that t-test was higher than t-table. On the other words, the hypothesis was accepted.

The findings of this study had the potential to provide valuable insights into the factors influencing students' speaking skills development and contribute to the enhancement of language learning and teaching practices, also to find whether there is a relationships between students' self-efficacy levels and their performance in speaking tasks. A quantitatave approach was employed by using SPSS IBM 26  and qualitative approach was employed by using observation and questionnaires, utilizing surveys, to measure students' self-efficacy beliefs and assessments to evaluate their speaking performance. The research included 30 second-grade Social Studies students from SMAN 7 Mataram, selected through purposive sampling. A questionnaire with two types of items, totaling 10 questions, was employed as the research tool. The major factors influencing students’ self efficacy at IPS class at SMAN 7 Mataram are social persuasion (50%) and Emotional & Physiological States (50%). The results indicated a strong relationships, with a Pearson correlation coefficient (R) of 0.895, which is considered very high, falling within the 0.80 to 1.000 range. The statistical analysis at a significance level of ? = 0.05 showed a p-value lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Thus, the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, confirming a significant correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their speaking skills. It means that students need encouragement and support from parents, teachers, and their community to boost their self-efficacy to improve English speaking skills.

Abstract

Abstract

This study developed task-based reading materials using short stories to enhance EFL students’ critical thinking, particularly inference and evaluation, in the Extensive Reading course. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) design, 60 fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika were assigned to an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). Data were obtained through validation checklists, pre- and post-tests, and questionnaires. The results showed that the materials were valid (77,5%), practical (81% of students achieved the minimum passing grade), and effective, with the experimental group significantly outperforming the control group (t (58) = 3,99, p < ,001, d = 1,03). The implementation fostered active participation, critical discussion, and substantial improvement in inference and evaluation skills. These findings highlight the importance of integrating Task-Based Learning with short stories as an effective approach to promote critical literacy in university-level extensive reading instruction.

The class were selected as the samples was XIIA social class as experimental group consisted of 15 students from even serial number and XIIB Social class as control group consisted of 15 with odd serial numbers. The Experimental group was treated by Problem based Learning and control group was given treatment without Problem based Learning method. The instrument used in this research was writing test. In analyzing the data, the researchers used statistical analysis by SPSS software, in which it showed that the sig value of = 0.000 was lower than 0.05. Therefore, according to the results of the analysis, it could be concluded that there was a significant difference in students‟ of writing skill by using Problem based Learning method and those who taught without the Problem Based Learning method at SMAN 1 Gunungsari.

The population of this research is the third grade students of SMAN 1 Batulayar consist of 62 students. The instrument that will be used to collect the data is test consists of post-test. The data will be analysed by using statistical formula of t-test.The result of data analysis showed that the value of t-test was 4.39 and t-table 2.00. The value of t-testis higher than t-table in significance level0.05 and degree of freedom 62-2. It meant that t-critical value was significant fot this confidence level. Then, alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepeted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It could be concluded that there was an effect of using snowballing technique to teach vocabulary at the third grade students of SMAN 1 Batulayar in Academic year 2021/2022.
