Abstract

This study aims to explore the character formation process conducted by educators and parents in developing empathy, creativity, and independence values in Totto-chan through semiotic analysis of signs in the film. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic analysis to examine signs and their meanings in the film. Data collection was conducted through comprehensive documentation of the film, focusing on dialogue, scenes, character expressions, and visual contexts. The findings of this research indicate that character formation occurs through a holistic educational approach implemented by educators and parents. Empathy character is developed through an atmosphere of acceptance and appreciation of differences, creativity is stimulated through an inspiring environment, and independence is fostered through providing trust and responsibility. The research concludes that character formation is most effective when values are not only taught explicitly but also modeled and integrated into daily practices through meaningful experiences provided to children. The contribution to character education in schools is providing a holistic education model that can be adapted into curricula, offering practical guidance for educators in creating learning atmospheres that support character formation through behavioral modeling and meaningful experiences.

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) with the theme Batik Nusantara as an effort to instill a love for the homeland in early childhood. Several studies have previously explored the implementation of the in cultivating love of homeland character. However, these studies have not provided their own contribution by focusing specifically on the cultivation of love for the homeland at the early childhood education through the P5 Batik Nusantara. Using a qualitative case study method, the research involved a principal, two teachers, fifteen group B students, and two parents from a kindergarten in Bekasi, West Java. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Findings show that the implementation of P5 Batik Nusantara was carried out systematically in five stages: introduction, contextualization, action, reflection, and follow-up. The project effectively fostered love for the homeland through contextual learning, exploration of local culture, and active participation from students and parents. The developed dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile included global diversity, mutual cooperation, and creativity. Assessment results indicated that most students showed expected developmental progress. These findings contribute to national efforts in strengthening early childhood character education through culturally grounded pedagogies. This study recommends replicating the study in multiple PAUD institutions to test scalability. integrating other cultural or local heritage themes within the P5 framework, or longitudinal tracking to assess sustained character development over time.

Abstract

This study analyzes the content of the Komik Seri Pengenalan Anti Gratifikasi, an anti-corruption comic series for early childhood education published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. It addresses the lack of educational media that introduce anti-corruption values to young children. The aim is to identify the character values presented in the comics and evaluate their relevance as tools for character education. The comics are intended to instill core anti-corruption values such as honesty, responsibility, hard work, and caring. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and content analysis, the study examines how these values are conveyed through storylines, characters, dialogue, and illustrations. Data collection was conducted through close reading and detailed note-taking of each comic in the series. Findings indicate that the comics effectively present ethical principles, especially honesty, which is consistently portrayed as a key value in preventing corruption. Through engaging stories and relatable characters, the comics promote positive behaviors like speaking the truth, returning lost items, and admitting mistakes. Responsibility and hard work are also illustrated in scenarios where characters take ownership of their actions and strive to reach their goals. The study highlights the comics’ ability to connect with children through real-life situations, encouraging moral development in an age-appropriate and visual format. This makes abstract values more concrete and easier for early learners to understand. As a result, the comics are deemed adequate for early childhood character education. However, the research also notes the potential to expand the values represented, such as courage and independence, to strengthen the moral message further. Overall, the study supports the use of educational comics as a valuable medium for fostering anti-corruption awareness and building a strong ethical foundation from an early age.
