Abstract

This study aims to develop an Islamic community model based on local wisdom in Bandar Khalifah Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. The research focuses on analyzing how local cultural values are integrated with Islamic teachings to strengthen religious identity, enhance social solidarity, and improve community welfare. It also examines the roles of key social actors and identifies the challenges encountered in implementing the model. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with ten informants (including religious leaders, traditional leaders, village officials, and community members), and documentation studies. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of strategies and social dynamics. The findings reveal that the Islamic community development model is constructed through the integration of Islamic values such as ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood), ta’awun (mutual assistance), and shura (deliberation) with local wisdom practices, including kenduri (communal feasts), gotong royong (mutual cooperation), village deliberation, and regular religious gatherings. This integration strengthens social cohesion and fosters a harmonious and inclusive religious environment. Religious leaders and Islamic educational institutions play a significant role as facilitators in transforming local wisdom into effective instruments of da'wah. However, the model faces several challenges, including the impact of modernization that gradually erodes traditional practices, shifting values among younger generations, and the lack of formal documentation of local wisdom. This study contributes to the formulation of a contextually relevant Islamic community development model for rural settings

Abstract

This study examines the Islamic Thought and Information for Da’wah (ISTAID) Center Medan's da'wah strategy in responding to and countering the growth of extreme and liberal religious narratives in the post-truth era. The study focuses on the da'wah strategy implemented, the challenges faced, and the impacts felt by the congregation and the institution. This study aims to understand how ISTAID designs and implements da'wah oriented towards fostering a holistic and responsible understanding of religion amidst the rapid flow of digital information. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive case study approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with ISTAID administrators, religious teachers (ustadz) who provide lectures, and participants in youth development programs, supplemented by secondary data sourced from relevant journals and books. The results show that ISTAID develops a da'wah strategy through da'wah bulletins, weekly face-to-face lectures, and tiered cadre development. This strategy helps the congregation develop a critical attitude towards religious information and avoid narrow or too loose understanding. Furthermore, strengthening the community and cadres of Islamic preachers is a crucial factor in maintaining the sustainability of ISTAID's Islamic preaching in the post-truth era, which is rife with disinformation and fragmented religious discourse.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to analyze the management of premarital guidance based on a psychosocial da’wah approach at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of Sunggal District. The study focuses on program planning and implementation, da’wah strategies for strengthening the psychosocial readiness of prospective couples, and the evaluation of the guidance program. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using an interactive analysis model. The findings indicate that premarital guidance at KUA Sunggal District was implemented in a structured manner by integrating Islamic da’wah values with psychosocial concerns. The da’wah strategies applied were communicative, persuasive, and dialogical through discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and case-based reflection, which contributed positively to the development of prospective couples’ mental, emotional, social, and spiritual readiness. Evaluation was conducted through reflection during the activities and follow-up consultations; however, it was not yet supported by a systematic long-term monitoring mechanism. This study concludes that premarital guidance based on a psychosocial da’wah approach can strengthen prospective couples’ readiness for married life, although it still requires improvement in sustainable evaluation systems and post-marital guidance.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization and rising individualism have eroded social solidarity in Indonesian cities, challenging religious organizations to design more adaptive, action-based models of da'wah (Islamic outreach). This study examines how Ikatan Pelajar Putri Nahdlatul Ulama (IPPNU) Sumatera Utara implements dakwah bil hal (da'wah through action) to strengthen social solidarity in Medan Maimun District, Medan City. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, informants were purposively selected from IPPNU administrators and members, community leaders, and community beneficiaries. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings show that dakwah bil hal is enacted through six main activities: social service, assistance for orphans and the underprivileged, gotong royong (mutual cooperation), regular religious study sessions, environmental initiatives, and humanitarian action. These activities are perceived by the community to strengthen social concern, participation, and cooperative spirit. Despite constraints such as limited resources and uneven community participation, dakwah bil hal is perceived to contribute positively to social solidarity by reinforcing social capital, collaboration, and active civic engagement. This study affirms dakwah bil hal as a promising, non-confrontational approach for building social cohesion in diverse urban communities, offering a transferable model for youth religious organizations elsewhere.
