Abstract

Endangered language has a close meaning to language shift. The situation when the number of that language user is getting less. Endangered language is when the children of a family do not acquire their "mother tongue" any longer. Although, they live in the location where the language comes from. For example, the Malay tribe in Tebing Tinggi. Tebing Tinggi is inhabited by three significant tribes, Batak, Javanese, and Malay. Moreover, Tebing Tinggi was surrounded by the coastal area. Serdang Bedagai and Batu Bara were the Malay tribe that dominated this area. Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Bina Karya (STIE) Bina Karya is an institute placed in Tebing Tinggi. Most of its students come from the local area, and those areas, Serdang Bedagai and Batu Bara area are Malay people. However, they were rarely found uttering the Malay language when talking at the campus. This qualitative research will see the language endangered in the Malay language in STIE Bina Karya students. This study took twenty-nine Malay students as the informants in STIE Bina Karya. By distributing the open-ended questionnaire, then analyzing it using the thematic analysis. After analyzing the data, the Malay language in STIE Bina Karya was invulnerable and severely endangered. The most factors come from 1) the small number of users, 2) bilingualism dominates the communication, 5) parents do not play an important role in teaching their generation the minority language(linguistic suicide).

Abstract

Purpose — The aim of this research is to examine the interest of Generation-Z in travel by exploring the factors that influence their choice of tourism destination and reasons for traveling.Method — To collect data for this research, a qualitative method was employed whereby an open-ended online questionnaire was distributed to 71 individuals belonging to the Z generation in Tebing Tinggi City. We utilized thematic analysis as the technique to examine and analyze the data collected.Result — We found that Generation-Z has a psychological need for vacations to alleviate the stress caused by their numerous responsibilities. When traveling, they typically choose the closest and most renowned tourist destination in their area, without spending excessive amounts of money. Popular activities for them include searching for picturesque locations, experiencing local cuisine, and camping. To travel affordably and efficiently, Generation-Z often opts for private vehicles such as motorcycles or cars, which enable them to visit multiple places.Contribution — This study contributes to the body of knowledge on Generation-Z travel behavior and has implications for the tourism industry in terms of catering to this demographic's unique preferences and needs.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis generasi Z dan minat berwisata dengan mempertimbangkan alasan berwisata dan alasan memilih destinasi wisata. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang memperoleh data melalui penyebaran kuesioner secara online kepada 71 informan yang termasuk generasi Z. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menerapkan analisis tematik. Hasilnya, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa secara psikologis generasi Z membutuhkan liburan untuk melepaskan stres akibat banyaknya tugas yang mereka miliki dalam tugas di kampus maupun di tempat mereka bekerja. Mereka pergi traveling bersama teman atau pasangannya ke tempat wisata terdekat dan populer dengan lokasi tempat tinggalnya tanpa mengeluarkan banyak uang. Berburu spot foto, wisata kuliner, dan berkemah menjadi kegiatan utama mereka selama berwisata. Generasi Z kebanyakan lebih memilih bepergian dengan sepeda motor atau mobil (kendaraan pribadi) karena efektif dan efisien menjangkau banyak tempat dengan biaya yang murah. Kajian ini diharapkan akan memberikan gambaran bagi industri pariwisata dan pemangku kepentingan dalam mengembangkan dan menata destinasi wisata guna menarik minat wisatawan generasi Z untuk berkunjung

Abstract

STIE Bina Karya students where their learning focus is not on English, but they have to take English for a Specific Purpose as one of the general subjects. Therefore, delivering English for specific purposes material requires an appropriate learning method. This research aims to describe the application of the Role-Playing Method for STIE Bina Karya students. This Class Action Research applied two cycles. The research subjects are 70 students from the first semester who were chosen randomly. This research used tests, questionnaires, and observations in collecting the data. In analyzing the data, the student's correct answer was divided by the number of items and times 100 to get the score. Research results showed that there is an increase in learning outcomes by applying the role-playing method. In the initial test, student learning outcomes is 35.73. Then in cycle I, it increased to 61.14 and increased again to 77.36 in cycle II. Questionnaire data also proved that the Role-Playing method can not only improve student learning outcomes but can also increase students' non-English study program interest in learning English for specific purposes.

Abstract

Nowadays, the use of English language becomes popular. It spreads to all life aspect, especially in cafe/restaurant business. The cafe/restaurant owners used English as written on the menu list. This was an experimental research, 25 respondents as the control group and 25 respondents as the experience group. This research was going to investigate whether the use of English language in the food and drink menu give a significant effect for the business profit. The data of this research was taken from 25 respondents of STIE Bina Karya’s students who has ordered from the cafe/restaurant whose menu written in English language. Then, the data were analyzed quantitatively from the result of the google-survey distribution. As the result, from the price indicators, it showed that consumers did't mind with the higher prices at restaurants/cafe with English language menus they offer. Therefore, the businessmen were suggested to use English language as written on their menu list.

Abstract

Quality of education has now become necessary for improving the quality of life of people throughout the country. Improving the quality of education will be directly proportional to the quality and level of welfare of the community, meaning that education is one way to improve the welfare and life of the community. Therefore, related to the issue of education, it is demanded that the government or the state must be present at the front in realizing the ideals of the state and nation. This study uses quantitative analysis techniques through Multiple Linear Regression. The results showed that the Principal's Leadership and Educational Personnel Performance influenced the Quality Improvement of Graduates at MTs Bustanul'Ulum Guppi Tebing Tinggi City. The simultaneous (overall) effect of the Principal's Leadership and Education Personnel Performance variables on improving the quality of education is 73.00%. The magnitude of the value is strong. Partially, the Principal's Leadership Variables and the Performance of Education Personnel were tested in influencing the Quality Improvement of Graduates at MTs Bustanul'Ulum Guppi Tebing Tinggi City: The results of the Principal's Leadership study affect the Quality Improvement of Graduates by 43 percent and Educational Personnel Performance of 30 percent. Other influences that are not studied or evaluated affect the quality of public services by 27 percent.

Abstract

This study determines the relationship between the exchange rate, the Hang Seng index and the LQ45 index using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method. The data used weekly data for 4 years from 2017 to 2020, comprising 208 time series data. The data used in this study is secondary data based on the official website, namely idx.co.id, www.investing.com, wwww.yahoofinance.co.id, bi.go.id. The results of this study indicate that the exchange rate with the LQ45 index had a positive and significant effect on the LQ45 index before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hang Seng index with the LQ45 index had a negative and significant effect on the LQ45 index before the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hang Seng index with the LQ45 index did not affect the LQ45 index during the COVID-19 pandemic. The exchange rate with the Hang Seng index had a negative and insignificant effect on the Hang Seng index before the COVID-19 pandemic. The exchange rate with the Hang Seng index had a positive and significant effect on the Hang Seng index during the Covid-19 pandemic. These findings can assist investors in being more selective in determining whether to buy, sell or hold their shares. The government can make policies related to the exchange rate and maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate against the dollar so that the effects can be anticipated and handled as well as possible.

Abstract

Reading literacy is a crucial skill that empowers individuals to comprehend, analyze, and engage with written information effectively. The importance of reading literacy in both personal and societal contexts highlighted the cognitive and emotional benefits of strong reading skills, including expanded knowledge, critical thinking, and empathy. Additionally, it addresses the essential role of reading literacy in education, career development, and lifelong learning. The informants of this research were 135 college students who represented each semester. The data were analyzed by implementing descriptive qualitative method. The findings were reading literacy of management study program studentsare almost the same with others study programs. They prefer to read e-book rather than purchasing on offline or online bookshop. It found that before the end of the semester the students’ reading percentage were high because they have to finish their task as directed by the lectures. Besides reading e-book rather than purchasing books, library is the best place to read and do discussion whenever they have individual or group task.
