Abstract

Vitamin C is a water-soluble substance  and it acts as chain-breaking antioxidant. It scavenges free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are produced during metabolic process. Exercise can produce an imbalance between ROS and antioxidants, which leads to tissue damage related to oxidative stress. Vitamin C also acts as a supporting factor in several enzymatic reactions in the body and can increase components of the immune system. Because of the pivotal role of vitamin C in reducing free radical levels, this review article presents a characteristics and functions of vitamin c as an antioxidant to lessen the levels of free radicals which focused in exercise condition. Keywords: vitamin C; antioxidants; oxidative stress; exercise

Abstract

This article aims to determine the effect of physical activity in increasing insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1 levels. The method used is a systematic literature review with public databases, direct science, national and international journals with vulnerabilities in 2015-2020. The results showed that physical activity could increase IGF-1 levels. IGF-1 levels are closely related to muscle building, muscle mass, and muscle strength. IGF 1 levels that occur during physical activity can reduce sarcopenia, muscle weakness, and obesity. Given theimportant role physical activity plays in increasing IGF-1 levels, this article looks at how physical activity affects the increase in IGF-1 levels. It can be concluded that physical activity can increase IGF-1 levels as one of the factors associated with increased muscle mass.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate and quantify the impact of exercise on insulin and glucagon levels. Employing a systematic approach, this research delves into various journal databases including Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Criteria for inclusion in this study encompass articles on physical activity, insulin, glucagon, their mechanisms, and publications from the past five years. Only articles from anonymous journals are considered for inclusion. A total of 12,380 articles were identified from Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases. Approximately ten articles meeting the criteria for this systematic review were thoroughly examined and analyzed. The study adhered to the reporting guidelines outlined in the PRISMA checklist for Systematic and Meta-Analysis. Findings from this systematic review analysis reveal a decrease in insulin secretion and an increase in glucagon production following physical exercise. This is associated with enhanced insulin sensitivity and increased glucose absorption by glucagon post-exercise. Incorporating physical exercise into one's routine is recommended as a proactive measure to enhance insulin sensitivity, elevate glucagon levels, promote glucose synthesis, mitigate energy imbalances, and uphold overall health.
