Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of English literacy in improving students' reading and writing skills through a literature review approach. English literacy is understood as a complex process that involves not only the technical skills of reading and writing but also the comprehension of meaning, critical thinking, and the expression of ideas in written form. Through the exploration and analysis of various scholarly sources from accredited national journals, scientific articles, and academic publications, it is found that literacy significantly influences the development of students' language skills across different education levels. Key findings reveal that innovative methods such as gallery exhibitions, Jolly Phonics, digital platforms like Padlet, and project-based and storytelling approaches effectively enhance students' reading comprehension and writing skills simultaneously. Moreover, the role of teachers, the use of technology, and the integration of character values into literacy practices have proven to strengthen the effectiveness of English language learning. However, challenges remain, including low student motivation and weak foundational literacy, especially at the elementary level. This research highlights the need for an integrated, adaptive, and contextual literacy approach to create more effective and meaningful learning experiences. Therefore, English literacy serves not only as a tool for academic improvement but also as a means of holistic student development.

Abstract

This article aims to identify the music iconology of the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra's  (YRO) through a tourism and cultural perspective. The problem focuses on the unidentified aspects of the YRO that could become musical icons that can be developed as tourist attractions based on a cultural perspective. To approach this problem, theoretical references from (Falvy 1977) related to musical iconology and its analysis and interpretation (Buckey, 1998) are used. The main data are interviews with key actors of the YRO and visitors to the show. The results of the interviews were analyzed qualitatively using triangulation methods to ensure the credibility of the results. The results indicate that the YRO has iconological potential and can become a musical tourism icon of the Yogyakarta Palace in the form of something that can be perceived by the senses (audio and visual) because it contains and represents the culture of the Yogyakarta Palace. This is because tourists are generally only able to capture audio-visual messages, not yet reaching the stage of meaning. Further holistic research is needed regarding the tourism aspects of the YRO in an effort to form a scientific framework for the related topic.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of blended learning models in English language acquisition in higher education. Focusing on the diversity of language proficiency and learning styles among students, the study employs a literature review method to identify the strengths, challenges, and potential solutions of implementing blended learning models. The results of the literature analysis indicate that this model successfully enhances students' English language skills through a more contextual and interactive approach. However, challenges such as student resistance and lack of faculty support also emerge. Therefore, the study offers recommendations to address these constraints, including faculty training in implementing educational technology. In conclusion, the integration of online and face-to-face approaches can positively contribute to English language acquisition in higher education, with a caveat that special attention is needed for social, technological, and faculty support aspects.
