Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of green practices on delegate satisfaction at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC). The data collection method used was distributing questionnaires to delegates who had held meetings at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center from January 2024 to May 2024 and the observation. In this study, the author used the Slovin Formula, 98 samples from 6200 populations. The results show that green practice significantly affects delegate satisfaction at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. The results of the determination coefficient (R-squared) test are 0.567 (56.7%). The implementation of green practices results in an impact on guest satisfaction. The correlation between green practice implementation and delegate satisfaction is approximately 56.7%. This indicates that BNDCC's green practices positively influence delegation of satisfaction, interest in revisiting, and willingness to recommend. The most influential indicator on guest satisfaction is BNDCC, which has been green certified and has also implemented energy saving by installing LED lights for lighting. Delegates' satisfaction can also be seen in wanting to hold events at BNDCC with sustainability themes. The questionnaire results given to the delegates who held this event also recommended carrying out activities here, especially with the theme of sustainability.

Abstract

This research analyzes the transformation of the digital nomad ecosystem in Bali as a result of the Russia-Ukraine conflict that began in February 2022. Using a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design, this research reveals how the conflict has triggered a wave of Russian migration to Bali, which increased from around 1,800 people in the pre-pandemic period to more than 58,000 people in 2022. This phenomenon has created “Russian enclaves” especially in the Canggu and Uluwatu areas, triggering significant transformations in demographic, economic, regulatory and socio-cultural aspects. The results show a restructuring of the local economy, characterized by a 35-40% increase in property prices during 2022-2023, a proliferation of Russian-oriented businesses, and a shift in the local tourism value chain. Regulatory challenges are a crucial issue, especially regarding visa compliance and digital nomad work activities that fall in the regulatory “gray zone”. Socio-cultural dynamics show a complex spectrum of interactions, from social segregation to forms of cultural adaptation and acculturation. Local Balinese communities demonstrate significant adaptive capacity through the involvement of adat institutions in property regulation and cultural preservation initiatives. This research contributes to the theoretical discourse on “crisis-driven lifestyle migration” and “creative resilience” of local communities in response to global transformation. The implications of the research highlight the importance of integrated policies to manage the digital nomad phenomenon, ensure equitable distribution of economic benefits, and preserve local cultural values amidst the dynamics of global mobility.

Abstract

This research examines the future of green tourism in Bali, analyzing the challenges and opportunities facing the island in its sustainable tourism development efforts. The research adopts a multi-method qualitative approach, including a systematic literature review using the PRISMA method, in-depth semi-structured interviews, and participatory observation. Data were collected from key stakeholders in Bali's tourism industry, including experienced tourism operators, government officials, environmental experts, and community leaders representatives. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling, with the criteria of having a minimum of five years of experience in Bali's tourism industry or related fields. Their role was to provide insights into the current state of green tourism in Bali, challenges faced, and potential development opportunities. Key findings revealed significant challenges such as environmental damage from mass tourism, inadequate waste management, threats to biodiversity, cultural exploitation, and economic inequality. Nonetheless, Bali also shows great potential for green tourism development, including supportive government policies, community engagement opportunities, technological advances, and the growing global demand for sustainable tourism experiences. This research proposes a comprehensive strategy to boost green tourism in Bali, emphasizing stakeholder collaboration, sustainable tourism standards, eco-friendly infrastructure improvements, and awareness-raising campaigns.
