Abstract

One of the main types of investment that promises substantial returns for investors is investing in stocks. However, investing in stocks also carries risks. This dividend policy is a decision in determining the largest profit contribution with the lowest investment risk. The amount of tax rate that will be borne will affect the rise and fall of share prices in each company. Based on the results of the simultaneous regression test involving the independent variables Tax Rate and Dividend Policy on the dependent variable Stock Price, it was found that the f-count value is greater than the f-table with a significance level of F less than 0.05. This shows that the Tax Rate and Dividend Policy variables together have a significant effect on the Share Price variable.

Abstract

This research examines Switzerland's sanctions policy towards Russia during the 2022 Ukraine conflict, utilizing Martha Finnemore's constructivist approach. Switzerland is widely known for its long-standing commitment to human rights, as well as its traditional inclination toward neutrality in international affairs. This study seeks to understand why, despite its cautious stance in most global conflicts, Switzerland chose to adopt the European Union's sanctions in response to serious violations of international humanitarian law committed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Employing a qualitative descriptive method through literature review and policy analysis, the research applies Finnemore's concept of ideas and norms to explore how deeply rooted human rights values shape Swiss foreign policy behavior. The findings reveal that the sanctions imposed by Switzerland are not merely political gestures, but rather a reflection of human rights norms that have been internalized through its constitution, legal system, and long-standing role in international humanitarian institutions. The study concludes that Switzerland's decision represents a consistent normative commitment to defend universal human rights and uphold the principles of international law.

Abstract

Bacterial infections have been a major health challenge associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Plants and their metabolite constituents are important in local therapies and drug synthesis. This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition and anti-bacterial activity of the methanol leaves extract of Vernonia amygdalina. Phytochemicals in the extract were estimated using standard analytical methods. The antibacterial activity test of the plant extract was carried out using the agar diffusion method. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were determined using the tube dilution method and sub-culturing technique, respectively. The extract contains significant amount of alkaloids (47.44 %), flavonoids (16.60 %), tannins (4.35 %), saponins (12.28 %), steroids (0.86%), and glycosides (0.18%). The extract exhibited significant (p < 0.005) inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus isolates with MIC and MBC values of 12.45 and 25.51 mg/mL, 22.03 and 44.84 mg/mL, and 31.64 and 63.95 mg/mL, respectively. The methanol leaves extract of Vernonia amygdalina demonstrated an inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus isolates with low minimum inhibitory concentration values.

Abstract

Organochloride pesticides remain widely used in Africa, despite their potential public health issues. This study assessed the organochloride pesticides (OCPs) residues in water and silver catfish from Ajiwa Reservoir. The concentrations of OCPs in water and fish samples were determined using GC analysis, while One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the means for each parameter among the selected stations (Kadaji, Gamji and Kundu waje). Significantly higher concentrations of Aldrin (2.660.44ngL-1), Diedrin (1.710.38ngL-1), Endrin aldehyde (2.310.22ngL-1), Endrin ketone (2.560.22ngL-1), beta-BHC (1.700.66ngL-1), gamma- BHC (0.850.30ngL-1) and delta- BHC (1.190.47ngL-1) were found in the gills of fish from Kadaji. Also, significantly higher Endosulfan (2.240.70 gL-1), Methoxychlor (2.630.95gL-1) and p,p'-DDE (1.770.34ngL-1) were found in the muscles of fish from Gamji. In contrast, Diedrin (2.1110.59ngL-1) and Endrin aldehyde (3.840.86ngL-1) were significantly higher in the fish muscles from Kadaji. The OCPs in the water were not significantly different among the stations except Alpha-BHC (1.500.63 ngL-1). The study revealed the presence of various organochlorine pesticides in the fish tissues and the water, indicating a possible bioaccumulation in the fish. Although all the organochlorines were not above the safety level, however, it is not impossible that this might lead to possible health issues in the future

Abstract

Interfaith marriage is a very sensitive issue to discuss. The debate over the rules for interfaith marriages is caused by differences in interpretation of the verses of the Koran which explain the laws of marriage. Scholars agree that the marriage of a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim man is invalid. Regarding the marriage of Muslim men to non-Muslim women, there are differences of opinion. If the woman is a Mushrik woman then the marriage is invalid, whereas if the woman is a People of the Book, there are still scholars who view the marriage as valid and there are also those who view it as invalid. With various considerations, both from the verses of the Koran, the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, and the rules of fiqh, the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) as a guide for Religious Court judges to decide cases regarding matters of marriage, inheritance and waqf among Muslims has prohibited firmly and clearly the marriage of a Muslim man to a woman from the People of the Book and vice versa, the marriage of a Muslim woman to a man from the People of the Book. The result of this prohibition is that children resulting from interfaith marriages are classified as illegitimate children who do not have any relationship with their father and only have a civil relationship with their mother.
