Abstract

Background: As many as 51.32% of students from the Department of Physiotherapy at the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health fell into the category of cardiorespiratory endurance (VO2max) less than normal. The VO2max value is influenced by breathing, physical activity and hemoglobin levels. There has not been much research on the influence of breathing without physical activity, so it is necessary to conduct research on the influence of breathing on cardiorespiratory endurance. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of Buteyko Breathing Technique on cardiorespiratory endurance. Buteyko Breathing Technique can significantly increase cardiorespiratory endurance. The breath-holding effect of the Buteyko Breathing Technique is the condition of maintaining high carbon dioxide levels all the time which can lower blood pH, causing more oxygen to be released into the tissues and cardiorespiratory endurance to increase. Subjects and Method: Randomized Control Trial research design, Buteyko Breathing Technique treatment group (n=29) and group II was the control group (n=30). Havard Step Test research measuring tool. The research subjects were students majoring from the Department of Physiotherapy at the Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health, Surakarta. Results: The results of the paired sample t test in the treatment group obtained a value of p=0.027 (p<0.05), meaning that Buteyko Breathing Technique can increase cardiorespiratory endurance, while in the control group, a value of p=0.425 (p>0.05) was obtained, meaning there was no change in cardiorespiratory endurance. in the control group.        Conclusion: Buteyko Breathing Technique can significantly increase cardiorespiratory endurance.

Abstract

Gangguan keseimbangan pada lansia merupakan hal yang umum terjadi karena penurunan fungsi tubuh, terutama pada sistem neuromuskuler, muskuloskeletal, dan vestibular.  Lansia di Posyandu Lansia Ngudi Waras 7, Dukuh Pondok, Tohudan Wetan, Colomadu, Karanganyar belum mengetahui tentang kondisi keseimbangan dan belum terpapar tentang latihan keseimbangan dengan SSE. Oleh karena itu dibutuhkan upaya untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada lansia tentang kondisi keseimbangan dan cara yang bisa dilakukan untuk meningkatkan keseimbangan. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengetahui keseimbangan lansia dan memperkenalkan square stepping exercise (SSE). Metode kegiatan ini merupakan community based research (CBR) dengan melakukan skrining keseimbangan menggunakan time up and go (TUG) test dan uji coba SSE. Hasil skrining keseimbangan pada 21 peserta lansia perempuan menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata keseimbangan adalah 11,17 detik yang berarti keseimbangan tidak normal karena lebih dari 10 detik.  Selain itu uji coba latihan SSE berjalan dengan lancar, meskipun terdapat lansia yang kesulitan dalam melakukan SSE tahap elementary 2, karena lebih rumit. Kegiatan ini bermanfaat meningkatkan pemahaman lansia tentang kondisi keseimbangannya dan lansia mampu melakukan latihan keseimbangan melalui latihan SSE secara mandiri.

Abstract

Background: There is a mutually influencing relationship between physical activity and fitness level, especially the cardiorespiratory endurance component. Types of exercise that can increase cardiovascular endurance are skipping rope, fast walking, and weight lifting. Thoses exercises are simple and easy to do. This study aimed to determine whether or not there was a difference in influence and which one was the most influential between skipping rope, fast walking, and weight training on the cardiorespiratory endurance of physiotherapy students.Subjects and Method: This was a randomized control trial study, conducted at the Department of Physiotherapy, School of Health Polytechnics, Ministry of Health, Surakarta, from July to August 2020. A total of 36 students was selected by random sampling, and allocated into 4 groups consisted of 9 students: (1) Skipping rope exercise group; (2) Fast walking group; (3) Weight training group; and (4) Control group. The dependent variable was cardiorespiratory endurance. The independent variable was skipping rope, fast walking, and weight training. Cardiorespiratory endurance was measured by the Cooper method to measure VO2 max. Data were analyzed using paired t test, Wilcoxon, and One Way ANOVA.Results: After intervention, cardiorespiratory endurance was increased in all intervention groups. There was no statistically significant different effects on cardiorespiratory endurance between skipping rope group (Mean= 1.48; SD= 0.42), fast walking group (Mean= 1.42; SD= 0.30), weight training group (Mean= 1.38; SD= 0.22), and control group (Mean= 1.17; SD= 0.28) with p value of 0.218.Conclusion: Skipping rope and weight training significantly increase cardiorespiratory endurance. Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular fitness is a crucial aspect of student health, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to reduced physical activity. One proven method to enhance cardiovascular fitness is High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). However, there are differing opinions regarding the minimal HIIT dosage required to improve VO2 max. Objectives: This study aims to compare the effects of performing HIIT once a week versus twice a week on increasing VO2 max in students. Methods: This study employed a two-group pre-test and post-test design with a sample of 30 students who were randomly assigned into two groups. The first group performed HIIT once per week, while the second group performed HIIT twice per week for three consecutive weeks. VO2 max was measured before and after the intervention using the Beep Test. Results: The findings revealed that both groups experienced an increase in VO2 max after the intervention. In the once-per-week HIIT group, the average VO2 max increased from 32.60 ± 1.54 mL/kg/min to 32.75 ± 1.58 mL/kg/min, but the increase was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In contrast, the twice-per-week HIIT group showed a more significant increase, from 31.58 ± 0.75 mL/kg/min to 32.16 ± 0.84 mL/kg/min (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Performing HIIT twice a week is more effective in improving VO2 max than performing it once a week.   Keywords: High-Intensity Interval Training, VO2 max, cardiovascular fitness, students.

Abstract

Selama pandemi Covid 19, mahasiswa fisioterapi cenderung melakukan aktivitas pembelajaran secara online serta keterbatasan melakukan aktivitas fisik di luar ruangan yang dapat berdampak pada kebugaran. Kebugaran berkaitan dengan kemampuan tubuh untuk melakukan aktivitas tanpa mengalami kelelahan yang ditunjang dengan fungsi sistem kardiovaskuler dan respirasi dalam mengedarkan oksigen ke seluruh tubuh. Salah satu komponen yang sangat penting adalah hemoglobin, semakin banyak kadar hemoglobin, maka kemampuan mengangkut oksigen juga semakin besar. Apalagi hal tersebut sangat dibutuhkan saat melakukan aktivitas fisik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar hemoglobin dan tingkat kebugaran mahasiswa fisioterapi serta hubungan antar keduanya. Penelitian ini merupakan cross sectional study pada 80 mahasiswa fisioterapi Poltekkes Surakarta dengan mengukur kadar hemoglobin dan kebugaran menggunakan Modified Harvard step test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kadar hemoglobin dalam kategori normal, sedangkan rata-rata kebugaran dalam kategori rendah. Hubungan antar keduanya yang diuji dengan Spearman didapatkan nilai p=0,238, nilai r=0,133. Tidak terdapat hubungan antara kadar hemoglobin dengan kebugaran pada mahasiswa. Meskipun kadar hemoglobin normal, yakni memiliki kemampuan yang baik dalam mengikat oksigen, namun kebugaran yang rendah bukan hanya disebabkan kadar hemoglobin

Abstract

Mahasiswa Jurusan Fisioterapi Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta mengalami penurunan aktivitas fisik akibat gaya hidup sedenter, yang berdampak pada menurunnya daya tahan kardiorespirasi. Mitra belum memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan mengenai teknik pernapasan yang dapat meningkatkan daya tahan tersebut. Tujuan: peningkatan pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang pengaruh Buteyko Breathing Technique untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi. Metode: Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah pengukuran pengetahuan sebelum penyuluhan, ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab, program pelatihan Buteyko Breathing Technique, dan pengukuran pengetahuan setelah penyuluhan. Hasil : peningkatan rata-rata skor pengetahuan peserta dari 60 menjadi 90. Kesimpulan: kegiatan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa mengenai Buteyko Breathing Technique untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi

Abstract

Stroke is a problem that is often experienced by the elderly. A stroke occurs when a cerebral blood vessel ruptures or is blocked, causing a portion of the brain to lose its blood supply to carry the necessary oxygen, leading to tissue death. Neurological disorders, such as vestibular disorders, are one of the conditions and risk factors that can cause balance disorders. This study aims to determine the effect of Gaze Stability Exercise on the balance of the elderly with a history of post-stroke. This study used a type of pre-experiment research with a one-group pre-post test design. Samples were selected based on a purposive sampling method with a total sample of 20 elderly people. The intervention was carried out 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Balance measurement using the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT). The average TUGT before intervention was 17.81 seconds, and after intervention was 16.26 seconds. The results of statistical tests using the Paired T Test test the results obtained, a p-value of 0.002 (p <0.05). This study shows that there is an effect of Gaze Stability Exercise intervention on the balance of the elderly with a history of post-stroke.

Abstract

Kebugaran merupakan kemampuan tubuh untuk melakukan aktivitas tanpa disertai kelelehan dan gangguan kesehatan. Tingkat kebugaran di dalam tubuh dapat dikaitkan dengan kadar hemoglobin. Semakin bugar seseorang, maka kadar hemoglobin semakin banyak, karena hemoglobin berperan untuk mengikat oksigen untuk diedarkan ke jaringan yang membutuhkan. Tujan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang kadar hemoglobin dan kebugaran remaja. Kegiatan pengabdian ini merupakan community based research (CBR) yang dilakukan dengan penyuluhan tentang kadar hemoglobin dan kebugaran pada remaja dan pemeriksaan kadar hemoglobin. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan di SMAN 1 Ngemplak, Boyolali. Didapatkan hasil peningkatan pengetahuan peserta kegiatan tentang hemoglobin dan kebugaran pada remaja dengan rata-rata pre test 2, 46 dan rata-rata post test 6,13. Hasil pemeriksaan kadar hemoglobin didapatkan rata-rata 12,36 g/dL. Terdapat 19 peserta dengan kadar hemogloblin normal dan 11 peserta dengan kadar hemoglobin kurang dari normal. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan peserta tentang kadar hemoglobin dan kebugaran serta diketahuinya kadar hemoglobin pada peserta.

Abstract

Based on previous research, it was found 51.32% from 226 students of the Department of Physiotherapy Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta have cardiorespiratory endurance less than normal. One of exercises that can be done to increase cardiorespiratory endurance is brisk walking exercises. Brisk walking exercise are easy to do, simple, and proven to improve cardiorespiratory endurance. The purpose of this program is to increase knowledge about how is brisk walking exercises to increase cardiorespiratory endurance and increase cardiorespiratory endurance in students of the Department of Physiotherapy, Poltekkes, Ministry of Health, Surakarta. The methods used are counseling about the effect of brisk walking exercises to improve cardiorespiratory endurance and brisk walking exercise programs to increase cardiorespiratory endurance. The implementation of this program was at campus of the Department of Physiotherapy, Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta in February-October 2022. The results of the activity were increasing knowledge about brisk walking exercise to increase cardiorespiratory endurance from the average value 68.25 to 89.5 point, and increasing cardiorespiratory endurance from the average VO2 max value of 41.575 ml/kg/min to 45.275 ml/kg/min. Sebesar 51,32% dari 226 mahasiswa Jurusan Fisioterapi Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta mempunyai daya tahan kardiorespirasi pada kategori kurang dari normal. Salah satu latihan yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi adalah latihan jalan cepat. Latihan jalan cepat mudah dilakukan, sederhana, dan terbukti dapat meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah peningkatan pengetahuan tentang pengaruh latihan jalan cepat untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi dan peningkatan daya tahan kardiorespirasi pada mahasiswa Jurusan Fisioterapi Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan tentang pengaruh latihan jalan cepat untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi dan program latihan jalan cepat untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi. Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan di kampus Jurusan Fisioterapi Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta pada bulan September-Oktober 2022. Hasil kegiatan adalah : peningkatan pengetahuan tentang pengaruh latihan jalan cepat untuk meningkatkan daya tahan kardiorespirasi dari nilai rerata 68,25 menjadi 89,5 dan peningkatan daya tahan kardiorepirasi mahasiswa Jurusan Fisioterapi dari nilai rerata VO2 max 41,575 ml/kg/min menjadi 45,275 ml/kg/min.

Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals are an age group vulnerable to various health problems, one of which is hypertension. Hypertension in the elderly can be influenced by several factors, including age, Body Mass Index (BMI), physical activity level, and smoking history. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between these factors and blood pressure in the elderly. Methods: This research employed a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. The study subjects were elderly aged ≥60 years living in the area of Posyandu Lansia Brotoseno, Indronatan Village, Kartasura Subdistrict, Sukoharjo Regency. Data were collected through interviews, BMI measurement, and blood pressure examination, then analyzed using Spearman and Kendall’s Tau correlation tests. Results: The findings showed a significant positive correlation between age and blood pressure (p=0.00; r=0.630), no significant correlation between BMI and blood pressure (p=0.263; r=-0.161), a significant negative correlation between physical activity and blood pressure (p=0.00; r=-0.572), and no significant correlation between smoking history and blood pressure (p=0.196; r=0.169). Conclusion: The study concludes that age and physical activity are significantly associated with blood pressure in the elderly, while BMI and smoking history are not significantly related.
