Abstract

Riverside settlement in the Lower Badur Bawah area, precisely along the deli river in Hamdan village, Medan Maimoon sub-district , are one of the slum settlements being unorganized and densely populatade and the disposal of household waste water is not in place which makes this area prone to slum. Therefore, it is necessary to revitalize the area with land consolidation method in order to create a healthy and comfortable encironmental area in accordance with the social, economic, and cultural conditions of the surrounding community but do not forget the regulations that apply in the city of Medan. This research was conducted by conducting interviews with stakeholders and field observations by observing the behavior and activities of the residents of Badur bawah to produce a physical desription of the exixting settlements. Based on the results of observations, it was found that the characteristics of residential residents showed the orientation of the building back to the river, the lack of sewerage and the lack of public space and open space areas. The solution to the existing problems through consolidation of regional land by providing decent housing in accordance with the needs and income of the population and utilizing the river border as a open space that can be used as an area of social activity between residents to strengthen a sense of togetherness so that a sense of protecting, maintaining security and evironmental comfort, especially the cleanliness of the Deli river.

Abstract

Sosialisasi penataan permukiman kumuh bantaran sungai berbasis pembangunan berkelanjutan berperan penting dalam menyadarkan masyarakat dalam menjaga lingkungan tempat tinggalnya. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi karakteristik permukiman dan preferensi masyarakat terhadap kondisi permukiman dan menyusun arahan penataan lingkungan pada permukiman kumuh. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini menggunakan metode sosialisasi dan focus group discussion (FGD). Abstract

Gaya berinteraksi terus dimodifikasi oleh teknologi baru, namun kehidupan di bentuk oleh kebiasaan umum. manusia perlu berbagi dan berinteraksi satu sama lain bahkan jika keadaannya berubah. Kehadiran Teknologi Informasi Komunikasi (TIK) mengubah gaya hidup mereka untuk datang bersama-sama dan mengetahui informasi yang terjadi diruang publik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas-aktivitas yang terjadi di Lapangan Merdeka karena kehadiran sosial media. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua metode dalam mengumpulkan data. Metode primer yang terdiri dari observasi dan kuesioner, serta metode sekunder yang mengandalkan teori dan penelitian terdahulu. Data tersebut di analisis menggunakan analisis interpretasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kehadiran sosial media dapat menentukan citra sebuah ruang publik. Aktivitas yang terjadi di Lapangan Merdeka yang dahulu dominan adalah kegiatan politik namun di masa teknologi seperti sperti saat ini lebih mengarah ke kegiatan ekonomi dan rekreasi terencana. Perencana di tuntut untuk dapat mengembangkan inovasi baru agar Lapangan Merdeka tetap di minati oleh pengunjung. Seperti informasi yang disampaikan di sosial media mengenai kehadiran Merdeka Walk menjadi daya tarik wisatawan untuk mengunjunginya. Kehadiran sosial media menambah deret aktivitas yang terjadi di Lapangan Merdeka.

Abstract

Mosques function not only as places of worship but also as centres for social, educational, and community-empowerment activities, so their construction requires adequate technical planning documents, including working drawings. Masjid Faturrahman, located on Jalan Melinjo Lingkungan 2, Kelurahan Jati Karya, Kecamatan Binjai Utara, Kota Binjai, did not yet possess complete working drawings to guide its construction and development. This condition risked causing discrepancies between user needs and construction outcomes, as well as difficulties in preparing a cost budget plan and applying for development assistance. This community service activity aimed to assist the mosque management in preparing architectural working drawings that could serve as technical guidelines for construction. The methods applied were problem identification, field surveys, measurement of the existing building, discussion of spatial needs with the partner, design-concept development, preparation of working drawings using CAD software, and submission of the documents to the partner. The activity produced a set of working drawings consisting of a floor plan, elevation, and building visualisation that can be used for construction implementation and cost-budget preparation. The results indicate that the application of architectural knowledge through community service provides tangible benefits in supporting the development of a more planned, effective, and sustainable place of worship.

Abstract

Art education at the junior high school level not only plays an important role in introducing artistic elements such as color, form, and composition, but also provides students with opportunities to develop their skills in producing artworks. In practice, art-making activities in schools still rely heavily on conventional media such as paper, creating a need for alternative media that can provide more diverse and applicable artistic experiences. Acrylic paint is one medium that can be used to explore color, form, and visual ideas on various surfaces, including fabric-based materials. This community service activity aimed to introduce the use of acrylic paint as a medium for developing junior high school students' artistic skills through practical art activities. The activity was conducted through socialization and a workshop consisting of an introduction to the characteristics of acrylic paint, color identification and mixing, basic techniques for applying paint to fabric, and hands-on practice creating artworks on canvas tote bags. Through these activities, students gained experience in mixing colors, determining compositions, developing visual ideas, and applying painting techniques using acrylic paint. The results of the activity indicate that the use of acrylic paint on canvas tote bags can serve as an alternative art activity that provides students with direct hands-on experience and encourages active participation in the creative process. In addition to producing functional artworks, the activity also introduced students to the potential development of creative products with aesthetic and market value.

Abstract

Amal Shaleh Mosque in Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City, serves not only as a place of worship but also as a community centre for religious development, including Qur'an learning activities for children. These activities require a learning space that is safe, comfortable, well organised, and responsive to users' characteristics. However, the partner did not yet have architectural planning documents that could guide the construction of a Qur'anic learning house. This community service programme aimed to produce a design for the learning facility in accordance with the needs of the mosque management and prospective users and to provide technical assistance during the initial construction stage. The programme applied a science and technology diffusion method through a participatory approach, comprising coordination with the partner, field survey and measurement of existing conditions, identification of spatial requirements, concept formulation, design development, consultation and revision, preparation of working drawings, and on-site assistance. The outputs consist of architectural design documents, including plans, elevations, sections, three-dimensional visualisations, and working drawings for construction guidance. Assistance during construction helped the partner understand the relationship between the design documents and site activities and reduced the risk of implementation discrepancies. The programme demonstrates that collaboration between the community service team and mosque management can produce a design that is more responsive to community-based religious education needs and support the provision of a feasible and sustainable Qur'anic learning facility.
