Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of genre-based approach (GBA) in Arabic language learning in Indonesia. This study was conducted using the Systematic Literature Review method.  The data analysis used a thematic approach developed by Braun & Clarke. The analysis process consist of: in-depth familiarization with the data, systematic coding, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes and producing a report. The researcher reviewed 8 studies that were considered the most appropriate with the specified criteria. The results showed that there were 8 studies that discussed GBA in Arabic language learning in Indonesia within a span of 7 years, namely in 2017-2024. Most of these studies conducted qualitative research and 1 Classroom Action Research (CAR). The studies focused on 3 topics; language skills, textbooks and curriculum. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi bagaimana implementasi penggunaan pendekatan berbasis genre (GBA) dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab yang ada di Indonesia. Studi ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Systematic Literature Review.  Analisis data menggunakan pendekatan tematik yang dikembangkan oleh Braun & Clarke. Proses analisis dimulai dengan:  familiarisasi mendalam dengan data, pengkodean sistematis, mencari tema, mereview tema, mendefinisikan dan memberi nama tema serta memproduksi laporan. Penelitian ini mengkaji 8 hasil penelitian yang dianggap paling sesuai dengan kriteria yang ditentukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 7 kajian yang membahas GBA dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab di Indonesia dalam rentang waktu 7 tahun, yaitu pada tahun 2017-2024. Sebagian besar studi tersebut melakukan penelitian kualitatif dan 1 penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Penelitian tersebut berfokus pada 3 tema, yaitu keterampilan bahasa, buku ajar dan kurikulum.

Abstract

The Education 5.0 era requires learners to acquire both language and communication skills. In light of the contemporary demands, collaborative learning is highly recognized as a strong methodology to improve both linguistic and social competencies, its practice in Arabic language teaching faces huge obstacles. This study is exploring efficient strategies for collaborative learning with Arabic as a target language and the factors influencing successful applications will be scrutinized. This study applies the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology referring to PRISMA guidelines. The findings of this study have indicated that instructional strategies such as Group Discussion, Think Pair Share, and Project-Based Learning do significantly improve listening, speaking, reading, and, most importantly, writing skills. The effectiveness of these strategies is determined by four main factors: pedagogical (teacher competence and instructional design), social (student interaction and environmental support), group dynamics (heterogeneous composition and structured interaction), and technological (technology availability and integration). The presented research emphasizes the need for improved teacher preparation programs, thoughtful instructional design, and equitable student access to the latest technologies in order for the collaborative learning approach in Arabic language instruction to deliver optimal experiences.

Abstract

Abstract: Chaedar Alwasilah is a scholar who often voiced the importance of writing. He proposed two terms as an implication of discourse studies, the literacy literacy approach and the genre-based approach. This is the main point in writing this article, whether these two terms have the same or different implications in language learning. By using descriptive analysis method, the author tries to connect the two terms with Arabic learning. The results show that literacy and genre based approach are different. However, these two terms have the same intentions, such as the emphasis on the importance of writing skills. In relation to Arabic, although the term literacy approach is less well known, this article shows that the concept has also existed in Arabic learning. Keywords: Chaedar Alwasilah, Literacy Approach, Genre-Based Approach

Abstract

Background: Nutritional problems among junior high school adolescents in Indonesia remain high due to a lack of knowledge about balanced nutrition, which is caused by suboptimal counseling due to the use of less interactive methods. Modifications to more interactive methods, such as pop-up demonstrations and card games, are needed. Objectives: To determine the difference in effectiveness between the pop-up demonstration and card game methods in improving students knowledge about balanced nutrition at SMP Negeri 44 Semarang. Methods: A quantitative method with a true-experimental design of two-group pretest-posttest without control and a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 64 ninth-grade students, with each group consisting of 32 students. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test to determine the difference in knowledge before and after the counseling of each method, as well as the Mann-Whitney test to determine the difference in effectiveness of the two methods. The instruments needed for this study are a balanced nutrition tumpeng pop-up, game cards, and a 30-question pretest-posttest questionnaire. Results: Before the pop-up demonstration method, only 5 (15.6%) of the sample were in the good category, which increased to 20 (62.5%) after the pop-up demonstration method. There was a difference in student knowledge before and after the pop-up demonstration method (p<0.001). Before the card game method, only 7 (21.9%) of the sample were in the good category, which increased to 20 (62.5%) after the card game method. There was a difference in student knowledge before and after the card game method (p<0.001). There was no difference in effectiveness between the pop-up demonstration and card game methods (significance 0.478>0.05). Based on the mean rank, the pop-up demonstration method was more effective. Conclusion: The pop-up demonstration method and the card game were equally effective in increasing student knowledge.
