Abstract

AbstractTourism and hotel industries position themselves to grow on after the pandemic. As the Hotel industry has entered the recovery stage, the management is back to experiencing some classic human resources issues such as long working hours, shift duties, etc. This results in a lack of Work-Life Balance (WLB) among most hotel employees. This research aims to find out if boundary management influences work-life balance moderated by goal-self concordance. This research uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Square (PLS) version 4.0 software as the analysis tool. With the convenience sampling method, the number of samples collected is 99 employees. Data collection is conducted by distributing Google Forms to hotel employees. The data has passed all criteria of the outer model test. For the result of the inner model test, Boundary Management has a moderate level of influence on WLB by 58.6%. The result of the effect size f2 shows that Boundary Management influences WLB by 0.283. The two-tail test also shows that Boundary Management influences WLB. However, the Goal-Self Concordance does not moderate between Boundary Management and WLB. Theoretically, employees need to develop their personal goals to achieve this Balance. Practically, the hotel is recommended to improve their employees’ WLB by giving them autonomy to choose their work schedule and discuss about setting boundaries between work and family.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to learn how to create a decision support system that can help with the process of deciding whether to hire contract workers on a permanent basis. The following methods of gathering data were employed in this study: literature review, interviews, and observation. The system development approach that the author employed to create this program was called rapid application development, or RAD. The decision support system that has been developed for contract employees to become permanent employees can assist and make it easier to see and read the results of contract employee assessments, according to the research results. This is because the system is quantitative and can generate reports that show the total numerical value of each criterion and sub-criteria for candidates for permanent employment. The system that has been developed has the ability to generate a report on contract employee assessments that presents contract employees in order of recommendation. The evaluation procedure and computation results can be accelerated with the use of a decision support system for contract employees who wish to become permanent employees. This way, the choice of whether to graduate or become a permanent employee can be made in less than seven days.

Abstract

Communication skills are essential in the Hospitality industry as the industry mainly deals with people. When communication is handled properly, it will develop guests’ loyalty toward the hotel brand. However, communication is usually challenging, especially during busy operational hours. Therefore, this community service aims to introduce the mind map technique to the Hotel employees, to enhance remembering, and to assist in organizing their daily tasks better. The method used in this community service is providing training to explain the technique, continuing with a mind map exercise, and ending with group presentations. From the training, the employees had gained more understanding about the technique. They felt that the technique was able to answer their needs related to effective communication and had a real and positive impact on them. The mind map technique is expected to be implemented daily by the Hotel employees so that the communication process will be improved.

Abstract

The high turnover rate in the hospitality industry has long been a significant challenge, with employees in this sector exhibiting high levels of mobility, even on a global scale. In 2023, the hospitality industry experienced the highest turnover rate compared to other sectors, making employee retention a critical managerial concern. This paper aims to address this issue by reviewing the factors that influence employees' intention to remain within the industry. Through an examination of existing literature, the study explores the contributions of talent management practices and employee-oriented Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to improving employee retention. The findings highlight the importance of work-life balance, quality of work-life, and employee-related CSR as key determinants in strengthening retention. The paper introduces the novel perspective that these factors should be viewed as interrelated components of a holistic approach to human resource management best practices. The urgency of addressing employee turnover in the hospitality sector is emphasized, given the industry's vulnerability to external, unpredictable challenges. This research contributes to the field by offering insights into effective human resource strategies that not only retain employees but also foster collaboration and enhance overall organizational performance. The paper provides practical recommendations for human resource managers to anticipate future workforce trends and align their strategies to promote sustainable employee engagement and retention in an increasingly dynamic and competitive industry.

Abstract

The development of the hospitality industry is strongly linked to employee performance. It is essential for every employee to achieve good performance for the hotel's major goals to be met. Employee performance can be influenced by the way they communicate and is related to their motivation. On the TripAdvisor website, there have been complaints from guests regarding employee performance or services. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of communication on employee performance with the moderation of employee motivation at The Apurva Kempinski Bali. This research uses a quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires with the research population being all employees who work at The Apurva Kempinski Bali. Sample of 70 people was collected using the simple random sampling technique. The data was analyzed using the statistical software PLS SEM 4.0. As a result, both hypotheses are accepted. Communication influences employee performance positively, and employee motivation moderates the relationship between communication and employee performance positively. Both hypotheses result in a significant relationship. Since the relationship between communication and employee performance is quite strong, therefore, the management of Apurva Kempinski Bali is recommended to maintain its communication efforts by emphasizing two-way communication, whether verbally or in writing.

This research uses quantitative method. The population in this research are all employees at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali, with total sample of 134 individuals that were determined using the Slovin formula. All the data results have successfully passed the validity and reliability tests. Furthermore, the results for all data have also met the criteria of both the inner model and outer model tests. The findings regarding path coefficients and P-values demonstrate that training influences employee performance, training influences teamwork, and training influences employee performance through teamwork, signifying that training holds the greatest influence on performance. However, according to the path coefficient, teamwork exhibits a negative influence towards employee performance. To enhance employee performance at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali, the hotel management may want to consider implementing a regular schedule for employee training initiatives to foster collaboration among their colleagues and improve their overall performance.
