Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the verbal quiz method in improving the vocabulary ability of grade VIII students at SMPN 2 Patampanua. This study used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this study was class VIII students at SMPN 2 Patampanua, and the sample selected was class VIII.2 consisting of 26 students. The research indicated a significant increase in students’ vocabulary ability after the treatment. The average score of students on the pre-test was 45.23, with a standard deviation of 9.64, while the average score on the post-test increased to 68.76, with a standard deviation of 15.63. The t-test value reached 6.34, higher than the t-table value of 1.708 at a significance level of 0.05 with 25 degrees of freedom. Based on the assessment rubric during the treatment, improvements were seen in several aspects, including appropriate vocabulary, speaking fluency, context understanding, and pronunciation. These results show that the increase in the average score from 37.5 in the second meeting to 60.3 in the fifth meeting shows significant improvement. Based on these findings, the writer concluded that students' vocabulary ability improved in several aspects, such as appropriate use of vocabulary, fluency, context understanding, and pronunciation, after being given the application of the verbal quiz method, which can effectively improve the vocabulary ability of grade VIII students at SMPN 2 Patampanua.

Abstract

Tujuan dari pengabdian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui apa saja cara yang dapat dilakukan agar bisa mengembangkan dan meningkatkan usaha dagang melalui periklanan dan labelling. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah partisifatif, dimana pelaksana mendampingi secara langsung pelaku UMKM di kota Parepare dalam mengembangkan usaha dagangnya yaitu melalui periklanan dan pemberian label pada usahanya.

Abstract

Pendampingan Promosi menggunakan media sosial pada Organisasi Mahasiswa Kewirausahaan IAS bertujuan untuk mengetahui peluang penjualan melalui promosi melalui media sosial. Metode yang digunakan adalah wacana, sesi tanya jawab dan praktek. Pendamping adalah seseorang atau kelompok yang memberikan nasehat dan bimbingan kepada perusahaan atau pengusaha untuk meningkatkan kinerjanya. Melakukan promosi dengan menggunakan media sosial sepertinya mempunyai peluang yang baik jika dilakukan dengan cara yang menarik. Facebook merupakan salah satu media sosial yang sering digunakan namun tidak menutup kemungkinan juga ada media sosial lain yang digunakan untuk berpromosi seperti Instagram dan WhatsApp

Abstract

Integrating local culture into English language teaching has been widely recognized as a means of enhancing students’ engagement and cultural relevance in learning. This study investigates English teachers’ pedagogical, resource-related, and professional development needs in integrating local culture into English teaching materials in Islamic junior high schools in Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved semi-structured interviews with eight English teachers. The interview protocols were informed by three theoretical frameworks: Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Funds of Knowledge, and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP). Data were analyzed thematically through systematic coding, category development, and theme refinement. The findings reveal three interrelated needs. First, although teachers recognize the pedagogical value of local culture, they experience difficulties in translating cultural content into communicative instructional practices, indicating limitations in their pedagogical content knowledge. Second, teachers face restricted access to culturally relevant resources, particularly materials representing Bugis culture, which constrains the effective utilization of their funds of knowledge. Third, despite strong motivation to integrate local culture, teachers report limited access to targeted professional training, underscoring the need for CRP-informed professional development. The study highlights the importance of sustained institutional support and collaborative professional learning opportunities to strengthen culturally responsive English teaching practices in Islamic secondary education.

Abstract

One of fun game to teach English is through guessing game. It can develop concept, add diversion to regular activities or just to break the ice. It will make students become more excited in studying English in the classroom, especially speaking skill. The purpose of this reasearch is to find out whether the use of guessing game is able to improve speaking ability of the tenth year students in MA Al-Munawwarah Parepare. This research applied a Classroom Action Research with two cycles. The result of the mean score in cycle 1 and cycle 2 showed that students’ speaking ability improved significantly. It is shown from the mean score in cycle 1 (58,47) increase in cycle 2 (77,5). Besides, the result of observation showed students’ participation increase in the classroom. It can be concluded that the use of guessing game is able to improve students’ speaking ability and students’ activeness in the learning process.
