Abstract

Durian fruit is one of the most popular fruits in Indonesia. Half of the durian fruit is the peel, which produces a lot of waste. The durian peel is not useful and also has no economic value. Durian peel contains fibers that have the potential to be utilized. The utilization of durian peel fiber as a composite natural fiber is an effort to reduce waste from the peels. Improvement of the properties of durian peel fibers can be applied by alkali treatment of the fibers. The purpose of this study is to obtain the cellulose content, tensile strength and impact toughness of durian peel fiber reinforced polymer composites by varying the alkali treatment of the fibers. The volume fraction of fiber and matrix composite was used 50:50. This study varied 0% alkali, fiber alkali as follows: 5% NaOH, 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2, 5% KOH. The results showed the highest cellulose content of 59.48% in the 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 treatment. It was found that the optimum tensile strength was 8.58 MPa in the 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 fiber treatment. The highest impact toughness of 2.8 kJ/m2 was obtained in 0% alkali treatment of fiber composite.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve productivity, the efficiency and quality the spice production process at Bumbu Masak Buya, a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) in Dumai, Indonesia. The primary focus is on upgrading outdated production machinery, specifically roasters, grinders, dryers, and sieves. By modifying or redesigning these machines, the study seeks to improve their performance, durability, and safety. A combined qualitative and quantitative research methodology was employed. The initial step involves a comprehensive assessment of the current production process to identify areas for improvement. Subsequently, the design and implementation of machine modifications were undertaken. It involves a detailed assessment of the current production process, followed by the design and implementation of machine modifications. The impact of these modifications was evaluated to measure their effectiveness in enhancing productivity and product quality. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for other SMEs in the spice processing industry. By adopting similar strategies of machine modification, these SMEs can improve their operational efficiency, reduce production costs, and enhance the quality of their products.

Abstract

This study examines how farmers can transition from traditional practices to a more data-centric approach, using IoT not just for operational efficiency but also as a strategic tool for creating new revenue streams. This research introduces the concept of smart goat farming ecosystems, where IoT technology, data analytics, and business model innovation converge to create a comprehensive and sustainable farm management approach. The qualitative research design will be used to understand the complex and context-dependent nature of IoT adoption in goat farming. This research has demonstrated that the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in goat farming has the potential to significantly improve operational efficiency, animal welfare, and productivity. The use of IoT devices for real-time health monitoring, automated feeding systems, and environmental control can assist farmers in optimizing resources, reducing waste, and ensuring better care for livestock. Future study can explore how IoT can be combined with artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data analytics to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency in livestock farming.

Abstract

Corrosion is natural process that occurred in metal structure. In the planning of construction, metal is the important part of construction. Yet it is often, corrosion phenomenon occurred due to interface with corrosive environment. In the design process, it is need to consider the metal behavior on how much the corrosion rate occurred for a certain time in order to confirm the metal structure application. This equipment is built to support the knowledge of corrosion rate for metal. The experiment shows the result of three specimens regarding the corrosion rates. The corrosive condition is created to trigger the corrosion process where the comparison corrosion rate between sub-soil water and peat water contribute to significance impact of corrosion process.

Abstract

A study regarding the factor contribute toward the delivery issues of traditional ship production process in Malaysia was conducted with aims to identify the factor contributing to the issues and also offer some suggestion and recommendation to overcome the issues. This study was conducted based on literature material available from many resources such as the Malaysia timber council, journal publication, reports, magazines and other. The factors derived that can contribute to delivery of traditional ship building product are the issues of availability of the raw material, law that exist to protect the material and its trade, the production process, the issues of the worker’s skill and availability, the diminishing number of master shipbuilder and the payment methods. Some suggestion in overcoming the issues also been proposed like special permit to traditional shipbuilder for easier material obtain and the need of documentation of the traditional ship production process itself so that the actual problem existed can be further examine and solve.

Abstract

One of reinforcement bar treatment during delivery transportation is to bend up or buckle in the middle of the bar. This treatment will undermine the strength of the reinforcement bar on buckle region due to its mechanical properties have been changed and no longer within specification. An important point of this study is to knowing the rate of change of mechanical properties, especially strength. Concrete reinforcing steels are bent with nine variations of the bending angle starting from the angle (a) of 20°, 40°, 60°, 80°, 100°, 120°, 140° 160°, and 180°. The data obtained indicated that the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength increases and decreasing the ductility. The increasing percentage of the yield strength is 14% and the tensile strength is 7%. The maximum decreased elongation is 13.42% (a = 180º) from 24.67% (a = 0º) and the reduction of area is decreasing 1.93 %.

Abstract

The good workshop management must also be supported by a properly administration, in order to record all the resources that become workshop assets. Moreover, the motorcycle workshop also conducts spare parts sales to complete the replacement needs of broken vehicle spare parts. This study aims to analyze and design a workshop information system for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the field of repairing of motorcycle. Generally, the SMEs scale of motorcycle workshops in this research still uses a simple management system and manually in presenting the data required by the workshop. This it make difficult and inconvenient for the owner of a SMEs scale of motorcycle workshop. Sequence, it is necessary to optimalize the management system from the simpler manual system to be computerized. Stages of the method in this study: (1) survey of general workshop management SMEs scale, (2) do analysis of data obtained during the survey and provides input for workshop management based on 5S method, (3) to design and create information systems and databases using PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) as the programming language and MySQL as the database. The approach of the 5S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and creating an information system can manage equipments and properly administration in SMEs scale of motorcycle workshops. Therefore, they can help to optimize streamline the services and administration activity of SMEs scale of motorcycle workshops.

Abstract

Goat farming holds significant potential as a sustainable livestock business, yet traditional methods often face challenges related to scalability and long-term sustainability. Many conventional farming practices rely heavily on key individuals without structured business strategies, making them vulnerable to discontinuity. To address these issues, a modern and structured business model is necessary. This study aims to explore development strategies for implementing integrated organic farming in Etawa goat cultivation. Using a qualitative approach, this research employs the Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework and financial feasibility analysis to evaluate the viability of the business. The findings reveal that Etawa goat farming can be successfully established and expanded through a well-defined BMC approach, which ensures business sustainability and competitiveness. Furthermore, financial feasibility analysis supports the economic viability of the venture, indicating its potential for long-term profitability. By integrating these strategic tools, Etawa goat farming can achieve sustainable growth, enhancing both productivity and market resilience.
