Abstract

Many residential areas are in the street class with high noise, including the apartment. Noise is often overlooked when it will have an impact on the health of residents. The balcony design in apartments can capture and even reduce noise, so this needs to be further investigated; the most widely used balcony in the apartment is a loggia type balcony. To find out the noise level of a place from a particular source such as traffic noise can be done by direct measurement. Knowing the noise level ratio, the method taken is field measurement, simulation, and mathematical calculations. The method of measuring the field using the Gunawangsa Manyar Apartment object by measuring noise levels carried out for 24 hours on the apartment's balcony, the noise level simulation method was carried out with I-Simpa, and the calculation method used a mathematical model. The results obtained are two types of noise on the apartment balcony, namely vehicle noise is steady, and vehicle noise is impulsive with noisy air-conditioner. The comparison of field measurements with simulation methods and calculations shows a high relationship so that the I-Simpa simulation method and calculation can be used to predict the desired noise level on a particular floor.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has a direct impact on conservation institutions such as zoos. Although the Surabaya Zoo is now recovering along with the decline in cases, it requires a resilience strategy to face the threat of similar zoonotic diseases in the future. These threats have a negative impact not only on humans, but also on the welfare of the animals. This research looks at biosecurity as a form of risk management and problem prevention. Isolation, circulation systems, and waste treatment technology are the most important biosecurity components for zoos. The method begins by examining the biosecurity strategies implemented and planned by zoo associations around the world. The results of the analysis were then implemented at the Surabaya Zoo. It is necessary to analyze design elements in zoos such as entrances, circulations, and animal enclosures that still do not meet the concept of biosecurity. The study's findings include the implementation of a biosecurity strategy at the Surabaya Zoo from an architectural standpoint, a circulation system devoted to entry/exit access, and the provision of service areas that can be accommodated in one zone of Service Facilities. Also, noise mapping simulation shows that it is necessary to reduce noise in the facilities.

Abstract

Parametric modelling has been regarded as a prospective skill both in architectural education and practice. It offers capabilities for designers to instantly generate numerous design options and create complex geometries, which can enhance the design creativity. Realizing its potential and capabilities, this study investigates how parametric modelling can be practiced in early architectural education for improving students’ creativity and design skill. The findings of this study are based on the observation of the parametric modelling workshop participated by 150 first-year architecture students in Indonesia. It is concluded that parametric modelling can be feasibly practiced by first-year students as a medium to enhance design creativity. Additionally, parametric modelling can improve students’ design intuition in some respects, that can smooth the design skill development in architectural learning. The lessons for the effective parametric design learning were also discussed in this study, including metaphorical thinking in parametric exploration, active communication between student and lecturer, and emphasis on the inspirational tool.

Abstract

Library is a place that is a center of information and reference for visitors. The library also plays a role as a supporter of efforts to educate the nation. However, the culture of visiting the library is currently declining, many people tend to spend their free time going to shopping centers rather than adding insight at the library. This may be due to by the lack of facilities in the library and spatial patterns that cannot provide a comfortable atmosphere for visitors to live in longer. In an effort to attract visitors, the library must be able to provide better access to its resources, users, and services, as well as provide complete and comfortable facilities for both children and adults. The application of bioclimatic architecture that examines the relationship between humans, building design, and the surrounding climatic conditions can be used as a reference in building design to meet comfort and energy savings. This research will examine more deeply the relationship between spatial patterns and bioclimatic aspects in public libraries, by taking samples based on literature studies at the Warrnambool Learning and Library Center and the UM Library. The research is presented using a qualitative descriptive method by concluding that the bioclimatic aspect will affect the arrangement of spatial patterns in public libraries, so as to provide comfort to its users.

Abstract

The end of the COVID-19 pandemic marks the beginning of a new era in many disciplines, including education. Campus life is starting to flourish, and there has been a significant increase in the use of public spaces, but this has not been accompanied by the renewal and improvement of the campus public spaces that students frequently use for studying and other activities. Many of the street furniture was in poor condition, uncomfortable to use, or could not serve the users. This study aims to define the ideal public space from the perspective of Generation Z students as the users. To collect data, a closed questionnaire is distributed to students from various adjacent faculties. The information is then quantitatively processed to obtain the preferences of street furniture through several parameters, including shape, color, and material. According to the analysis, the best campus street furniture has a circular or face-to-face shape, is geometrically balanced, uses bright, natural colors, and has natural expression. Other improvements include adding more furniture, adding power or electricity, and adding shading. The conclusions of this conversation can act as an outline of guidelines for administrators and stakeholders on campus when planning public spaces and the elements that constitute them up to fulfill the needs of users.
