Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia possess strategic potential inshaping inclusive, value-driven, and globally competitive communities. This articleexplores the educational transformation within pesantren, emphasizing valueeducation, soft skill enhancement, and digital responsiveness. Drawing on librarybased research, the study finds that pesantren have increasingly adopted digital literacy, entrepreneurial curricula, and inclusive practices for marginalized groups. The leadership of kyai remains a key factor in cultivating resilient and empathetic student character. These findings underscore pesantren's role in fostering sustainable development and social justice. Nevertheless, limitations in infrastructure andinstitutional typology highlight the need for further empirical research to enrich educational reform within Islamic contexts

Abstract

This study evaluates the use of Paper Mill Sludge (PMS) waste as a partial replacement for fine aggregate in paving block production, focusing on compressive strength and economic feasibility. PMS was incorporated at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of the total fine aggregate weight. Compressive strength tests followed the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 03-0691-1996), accompanied by production cost analysis. The results showed that 5% PMS achieved the highest compressive strength of 264.23 kg/cm², about 7.7% higher than the control 258.71 kg/cm², meeting the SNI quality class B (K200) standard. Meanwhile, 10% PMS reduced production costs by 6–8% while still satisfying the minimum requirement for K200 paving blocks (category B). This demonstrates a clear trade-off between mechanical performance and cost efficiency, where 5% PMS ensures maximum strength, while 10% PMS provides adequate strength with economic benefits. At lower levels, PMS fibers improved cement–aggregate bonding and reduced voids, whereas higher dosages (>10%) disrupted hydration and lowered strength. Practically, PMS utilization offers the paving block industry a sustainable and cost-effective alternative that reduces reliance on natural aggregates, supports waste valorization, and aligns with SNI standards for applications such as parking lots.

Abstract

Abstract

Environmental pollution has become a serious issue in metropolitan areas, including Palembang, with a direct impact on community health and quality of life, particularly in relation to waste management at the final disposal site (Tempat Pembuangan Akhir/TPA). This study aims to explore ecological messages in the Qur’an and Hadith and examine their potential contribution to strengthening faith-based ecological awareness through non-formal Islamic education. This study employed a qualitative approach using a library research design. This study used the Tafsir Mawdu’iy. The data were collected from Qur’anic verses, Hadith, classical and contemporary tafsir, and scholarly literature on ecology and environmental education. Then, they were analysed contextually by integrating scientific and social perspectives. References to community-based educational practices around the Sukawinatan landfill are drawn from secondary sources and documented studies rather than direct field observation. The findings reveal that Qur’anic and Hadith-based ecological education can enhance faith-based environmental awareness. It is reflected in community initiatives such as tree planting and pollution reduction efforts. This study concludes that integrating Islamic ecological teachings into non-formal education has the potential to promote clean and healthy living behaviors and support sustainable environmental management.
