Abstract

This study aimed to examine the use of rice bran with enriched mangosteen rind in feed on the performance and cholesterol of quail egg yolks. The cage as a research tool was modified with ram wire on four sides, and a base with dimensions per box, length 59 cm, width 55 cm, height and base 30 cm. 15 food containers made of zinc measuring 48 x 6 x 6 cm were placed outside the cage. Using 15  bottles plastic at 800cc brand Medion as drinking bottles, Harnic HL3650 digital scales with an accuracy 1 gram for weighing feed, and HWH DJ602B digital scales with an accuracy of 0.01 gram for weighing eggs. The study used a completely randomized design with  3 treatments  and  5 replications, with ten quails in each unit. The treatments tested were DP0 = control feed, DP1 = feed plus rice bran enriched with mangosteen peel flour without storage, and DP2 = feed plus rice bran enriched with mangosteen peel flour which is stored for 1 month. The mean differences between treatments were analyzed using the BNT test. The variables observed were feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion, and egg yolk cholesterol. The results showed that the treatment given was significantly different (P<0.05) on feed intake, while body weight gain, feed conversion, and egg yolk cholesterol were not significantly different (P>0.05). The amount of feed consumed by quail fed rice bran with enriched mangosteen peel flour had different responses. The smallest amount consumed was found in the DP1 test feed. However, regarding weight gain, feed conversion and egg yolk cholesterol, the experimental feed did not show a good response. Homemade feed is 40.9% more expensive than commercial BR I broiler chicken feed.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the housing system and equipment for pig farming in Suli Country and to determine the productivity of pig farming in Suli Country. The research was carried out in Suli Country, using survey methods and direct observation in the field. The number of respondents was 44 breeders. Data collection was carried out through direct interviews, observation and documentation. The data obtained was grouped and tabulated, then used quantitative analysis with a descriptive statistical approach. The research results show that the majority of breeders in Suli Country (72.27%) use single cages with integrated eating and drinking equipment. 75% of farmers have separation pens, but do not provide special feeding areas for piglets, and use heat lamps for heating. A comfortable housing system supports productivity with an average litter size of 6 ± 2.30 birds, birth weight of 1.42 ± 0.31 kg, and weaning weight of 7.10 ± 0.79 kg. The piglet mortality rate is low (1.36%) thanks to proper hygiene and heating.

Abstract

Most of the population of Waringin Cap are farmers construction workers, and a small portion are breeders. Government support conditioned one farmer to receive assistance for 700 laying hens, divided into two, 250 each, after the unavoidable loss of 200 chicks. The production of kept chicken eggs does not meet the requirements because they are constrained by the feed supply, both in quality and quantity. Community service activities aim to increase the knowledge and abilities of breeders regarding the use of natural resources around the livestock location to be used as feed ingredients. Community service activities in Waringin Cap hamlet have several solutions, namely an approach with the hamlet government and partner breeder groups regarding the aims and objectives of implementing the science and technology implementation program, implementing counseling, and asking questions about various practical knowledge related to the primary factors, namely feed and its provision, distributing brochures on problems and solutions for improving feed formulas and demonstration plots for laying hen feed formulas. Improving feed using lamtoro leaves is one way that can help farmers meet livestock needs. Community service activities have received good appreciation from farmers because they provide new information for breeders to improve the quality of feed provided so that they can increase egg production.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of molasses addition on the physical and chemical quality of zanzibar grass silage (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Zanzibar). The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications, namely P0 (1000 g zanzibar grass + 0 g molasses), P1 (1000 g zanzibar grass + 25 g molasses), P2 (1000 g zanzibar grass + 50 g molasses), and P3 (1000 g zanzibar grass + 75 g molasses). The variables observed included physical quality (color, texture, aroma, and fungal growth), silage pH, and chemical quality (water content, crude fat, crude protein, crude fiber, and ash content). The results showed that the addition of molasses did not significantly affect the physical quality, water content, and crude fat, but significantly affected the crude protein content, crude fiber, and ash content of zanzibar grass silage. The addition of molasses up to 7.5% (treatment P3) produced silage with the best physical characteristics, characterized by a yellowish green color, soft texture, fresh sour aroma without mold, and the lowest pH value of 3.2. Chemically, increasing the dose of molasses was able to increase the crude protein content from 11.15% (P0) to 14.52% (P3) and reduce the crude fiber content from 26.18% to 23.88%. The use of molasses at 7.5% of the fresh forage weight can be used as an optimal dose to produce good-quality zanzibar grass silage.
