Abstract

Abstract - Banking terminology is specialized language which is quite distinct from the translation of general texts. Specialized translation is meant to improve the communication among experts of a domain and to contribute to the distribution of knowledge across language boundaries. In this research the writer tried to use banking document as the corpus in finding banking terminology. The main focus was the translation of banking terminology in Financial Review of Bank Central Asia into Indonesian, translated by Anang Fachruddin, a sworn translator having its official address in Kalibata. This document is selected to be the subject of this thesis corpus, since there is a number of banking terminology found there. Conducted as a descriptive analytical study, this research was aimed at (1) Identifying the procedures applied in translating banking terminology in legal documents, and (2) to find out to what extent that the use of procedure effect the meaning. The writer chooses Peter Newmark theory of translation procedure since it contains more detail information and explanation. From the total number of 98 terminologies occurred in Financial Review of Bank Central Asia, the writer only found ten out of eighteen procedures of Peter Newmark applied in translating banking terminology in legal document. The procedures are; (1) Literal Translation (34.02%), (2) Transference (26.5%), (3) Naturalization (8.1%), (4) Functional Equivalent (3.0%), (5) Descriptive Equivalent (10.2%), (6) Synonym (3.0%), (7) Shift or Transposition (4.0%), (8) Reduction and Expansion (5.1%), (9) Equivalence and Adaptation (1.0%), (10) Couplets (2.0%). Overall, the Indonesian translated version of banking terminologies did not changed the meaning of the source text which is English version. Keywords: Translation, Sworn Translation, Banking, Legal Document. Abstrak: Istilah perbankan merupakan bagian dari bahasa khusus yang bentuknya berbeda dengan nas umum. Penerjemahan khusus bertujuan untuk meningkatkan komunikasi diantara ahli dan berperan serta dalam memberikan pengetahuan melewati batasan bahasa. Dalam penelitian ini penulis berusaha menggunakan dokumen perbankan sebagai korpus penulisan dalam menemukan istilah perbankan. Fokus utamanya adalah penerjemahan istilah perbankan dalam Tinjauan Keuangan Bank Central Asia ke dalam bahasa Indonesia, diterjemahkan oleh Anang Fachruddin, seorang penerjemah tersumpah berkantor di daerah Kalibata. Dokumen ini dipilih menjadi korpus penulisan karena ada banyak istilah perbankan yang ditemukan disana. Dilaksanakan sebagai penelitian Deskriptif Analisis, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengenali prosedur yang dipakai dalam menerjemahkan istilah perbankan dalam dokumen legal dan (2) mencari tahu sampai sejauh mana penggunaan prosedur diatas mempengaruhi makna. Penulis menggunakan teori Peter Newmark mengenai prosedur penerjemahan karena teori tersebut berisikan lebih bnyak informasi dan penjelasan. Dari 98 istilah yang ditemukan dalam Tinjauan Keuangan Bank Central Asia, penulis hanya menemukan sepuluh dari delapan belas prosedur Peter Newmark yang diterapkan dalam menerjemahkan istilah perbankan di dokumen legal. Prosedur tersebut adalah; (1) Literal Translation (34.02%), (2) Transference (26.5%), (3) Naturalization (8.1%), (4) Functional Equivalent (3.0%), (5) Descriptive Equivalent (10.2%), (6) Synonym (3.0%), (7) Shift atau Transposition (4.0%), (8) Reduction dan Expansion (5.1%), (9) Equivalence dan Adaptation (1.0%), (10) Couplets (2.0%). Abstract

 The purpose of this research is to determine all aspects of racism in the Get Out film, especially the type of racism, the effects of racism and the type of stereotype. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data is collected through films that are watched repeatedly and analyzed by the writer and the writer looks for a theory that is in accordance with the observation process from the opinions of experts, journals, books, and social media, then compared with existing opinions. The author uses the theory of Samovar and Maher, well-known researchers who study racism and discrimination. The author found that the racism experienced by Chris Washington in the film Get Out was developed from the beginning to the end of the story. The result of the research film Racism is a belief system or doctrine which states that biological differences inherent in the human race determine cultural or individual attainment - that one race is superior and has the right to rule over another. The results of this study can be concluded that the types of racism are divided into two forms, namely Individual Racism and Micro-Aggression Racism. And also, this research can be concluded that there are two stereotypes of racism, namely discrimination and prejudice.

Abstract

The purpose of research is to find out what courage is and how many types of courage. This research was conducted by using a film as a source entitled The Nun which was released in 2018, directed by Corin Hardly. The author wants to analyze the causes of courage. The author chooses the film The Nun and the main character as the object of this study. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study are: (1) Causes of courage from the main character based on Rahman's theory: Confidence, Situational Demands, Altruism and Emotional and Cognitive Resources (2) Actions of courage from the main character: St.Carta Monastery of Romania, he left the Substitute for searching for truth, proving the Truth (3) The moral values of the film: truths that teach how to deal with our lives because humans must always struggle and do not give up in any situations. Courage is one of the most important qualities we must have. Having courage can help us achieve extraordinary things in social life. We also need courage to give good and positive things to those around us.

Abstract

The purpose of research is to find out about the bravery needed in life in daily life. This research was carried out through a film titled Knives Out which was released in 2019, Directed by Rian Johnson. The author wants to analyze the causes of braveness. The writer chose Knives Out movie and used the main character as the object of this research. This research method is a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study are: (1) The main character's braveness is based on Rahman's theory: Decision-Making and Impulsivity, Risk-Taking Behavior and Sensation Seeking, Self-Confidence and Altruism (2) Actions of main character’s braveness: Confess Her Fault, Finding the Truth, Fight for Her Rights, Proving the Truth. Brave is one of the many important qualities that we must possess. The importance of the presence of people around you, just to remind you of the wrong decision that will be taken. Instead of regretting later, it's better to listen to the opinion of the people closest to be considered in making decisions.

Abstract

One of problematic problem in English translation into Indonesian language is tenses. Since Indonesian language is tenseless therefore to make a translation accurate certain method are required. Tenses shall be accurately translated therefore the TL reader understand the original meaning of the ST. Due to that reason, this research aims to investigate furthermore the translation accuracy of tenses in Indonesian novel version entitled; Destination Unknown. The tenses which are found: (1) Simple Present, (2) Simple Past, (3) Simple Future, (4) Present Progressive, (5) Past Progressive, (6) Present Perfect, and (7) Past Perfect. The method used in this study is descriptive analytical-interpretative technique. This study employs questionnaire as the instrument which is given to three raters represents academician, practitioner, and teacher in answering the problems of the study i.e. the translation accuracy of tenses in Indonesian translated novel. In short, the study found that overall all the tenses translation in the Indonesian translated novel was translated accurately. The difference percentages level of accuracy between one tense to another is not quite significant

Abstract

 This study aims to identify the types of directive illocutionary acts by Searle and perlocutionary acts by Austin, which occur in the novel The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh. The researcher used descriptive-qualitative method. The data of this study were taken from 282 utterances containing directive illocutionary acts. The first result shows that only seven of the eleven types of directive illocutionary acts were found; ask (175), beg (11), command (8), demand (29), command (36), ask (8), and warn (15). The results of these two studies showed two types of perlocutionary acts, namely successful (175) and unsuccessful (107).

Abstract

Abstract - The objective of this study is to know the most dominant grammatical error made by the seventh-grade students of SMP Trisula Perwari 2 in writing recount text and the reason for the errors. The writer used Betty Azar’s types of error theory and Richards’ sources of error theory. The method used in this study was a descriptive analysis method to describe students’ errors and analyze the data. The research findings show that add a word error holds the first position in the most dominant errors made by the seventh-grade students of SMP Trisula Perwari 2 with 154 errors or 20% followed by other types of error with the total error of verb tense is 114 errors or 15% and spelling is 93 errors or 12%. In addition, the writer found that the students’ errors caused by interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer. The most frequent source of errors affecting the students in making recount text is intralingual transfer with a total of 437 errors (57%), which is followed by interlingual transfer in the second position with a total of 328 errors (43%). Key Words: Error Analysis, Writing, Recount Text.Abstrak - Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis kesalahan yang paling dominan dibuat oleh siswa kelas tujuh SMP Trisula Perwari 2 dalam menulis teks recount dan sebab dari kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut. Penulis menggunakan teori jenis kesalahan milik Betty Azar dan teori sumber kesalahan milik Richards. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis deskriptif untuk menjelaskan kesalahan siswa dan menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis kesalahan add a word berada di posisi pertama dalam jenis kesalahan paling dominan yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas tujuh SMP Trisula Perwari 2 dengan 154 kesalahan atau 20% diikuti oleh jenis kesalahan lainnya dengan total kesalahan verb tense adalah 114 kesalahan atau 15% dan spelling adalah 93 kesalahan atau 12%. Selain itu, penulis menemukan bahwa kesalahan siswa disebabkan oleh interlingual transfer dan intralingual transfer. Sumber kesalahan yang paling sering mempengaruhi siswa dalam membuat teks recount adalah intralingual transfer dengan total 437 kesalahan (57%) yang diikuti oleh interlingual transfer di posisi kedua dengan total 328 kesalahan (43%).Kata Kunci : Analisis Kesalahan, Menulis, Teks Recount

Abstract

Setiap hari manusia menggunakan bahasa untuk berkomunikasi. Orang menggunakan bahasa tidak hanya untuk menjelaskan kata-kata tetapi juga untuk melakukan suatu tindakan. Bahasa performatif yang digunakan orang untuk melakukan suatu tindakan disebut tindak tutur.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis tindak ilokusi yang terjadi dalam ujaran-ujaran Bill Gates, (2) untuk mengetahui tindak ilokusi yang paling sering dilakukan oleh Bill Gates, dan (3) untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis maksim yang terjadi dalam ucapan-ucapan Bill Gates. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teori Illocutionary Act dari Kreidler dan teori Maxims dari Grice. Data yang dikumpulkan adalah ucapan-ucapan Bill Gates dalam diskusi TED-nya yang berjudul “How we must respond to the coronavirus pandemic”. Hasil penelitian menemukan terdapat 98 data maksim yang ditemukan dalam 32 tuturan, maksim kualitas menjadi yang tertinggi ditemukan sebanyak 32 kali, relevansi sebanyak 27 kali, cara sebanyak 22 kali, dan yang paling sedikit adalah kuantitas sebanyak 17 kali. Maksim kualitas terjadi menjadi yang tertinggi karena keyakinan pembicara pada apa yang dikatakannya benar dan dapat divalidasi. Kata kunci: ujaran, tindak tutur, pragmatik, ilokusi, maksim

Abstract

Psycholinguistics has contributed to numerous theories that explain how a person acquires language, produces and uses spoken and written language. Without adequate English language skills, BSI students will face fundamental problems in their studies, especially in class discussions. A descriptive study was conducted to describe the problems faced by Bina Sarana Informatika (BSI) students during class discussions. This study uses a qualitative method design. A total of 3 students who took part in this study were from the BSI English Department. This study collected data using semi-structured interviews. From the results of the research conducted, there were findings of several causes of mistakes made when students were talking, including children who feels anxious when speaking during discussions. Elements of this error can be classified based on the realm of psychology. The causes of mistakes that have feelings of anxiety and worry are related to the affective domain.

Abstract

This research studies the speech acts of Jo March the main character in the movie Little Women 2019 and aims to find out the type and form of speech acts in Jo's utterances and which one is the most dominant. The speech act is a theory that examines the meaning of language based on the relationship between utterances and actions performed by speakers and hearers to communicate something. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to obtain data. The writer collected data by watching the movie of Little Women 2019. In investigating Jo's speech acts, this study applied Searle's (1979) theory of speech acts in analyzing the utterances produced by Jo in the movie Little Women. There are five types of speech acts used by Jo, including assertive with 5 utterances, directive with 10 utterances, commissive with 6 expressive utterances with 9 utterances, and declarative with 2 utterances. So, the amount of data is 32 data and the most dominant speech act used by Jo is the directive speech act.
