Abstract

The pucok reubong motif has been stylised from the form of young bamboo shoots. These bamboo shoots are transformed into a unique decorative pattern. The artist's interest in exploring the pucok reubong motif stems from its distinct shape, surrounded by triangular leaves with pointed ends resembling swords, and its interlocking patterns. This inspired the artist to incorporate the pucok reubong motif into leather bag designs. The creative process follows the Hendriyana method, which consists of four main stages: (1) pre-design, which involves the development of imagination; (2) design, where alternative designs are visually conceptualized; (3) realization, in which selected sketches are transformed into final works; and (4) presentation, involving exhibitions to establish communication between the artist and art enthusiasts. The concept applied is a symbolic expression, representing modern art that utilizes traditional idioms as its foundation. In the final project titled “Pucok Reubong Motif as an Idea for Leather Bag Creation”, the artist applied the pucok reubong motif as a decorative element on leather bags. This work aims to enhance aesthetic appeal while introducing the pucok reubong motif to a wider audience unfamiliar with it. The bags were created using embossing techniques combined with weaving, resulting in works that are both artistic and meaningful.

Abstract

Peusijuk is a tradition of the Acehnese people as a form of gratitude for the achievements achieved in life, obtaining peace and tranquility. The peusijuk procession is carried out at certain moments, such as peusijuk at wedding ceremonies, ceremonies for moving to a new house, ceremonies when going abroad, when going on the pilgrimage, peusijuk keureubeuen (qurban), peusijuk for women divorced by their husbands, fights, hostility, so that it can be reconciled. In the realm of fine arts, we have never taken peusijuek as an object to make a craft work, especially batik pattern designs. The motifs applied to Acehnese batik are generally traditional Acehnese motifs. This creation aims to create Acehnese batik motif designs as a medium, based on the peusijuk tradition. The method used in this creation consisted of four steps, namely: pre-design stage (soul's journey), design (alternative sketches and selected designs), realization (application of selected pattern designs using batik media), and presentation (exhibition of works of art). This creation resulted in 5 new motifs with peusijuk pattern designs, namely Oen Sinijuek, Oen Manek Manoe, Oen naleung samboe, Sijuek, Peureutek. These five patterns have meanings in accordance with the philosophy of the Peusijuk tradition. The resulting patterns can be used as references for further research regarding creative patterns that originate from Acehnese traditions. It is hoped that the creation of these peusijuk pattern designs will have an influence on Acehnese batik craft industry, because it is hoped that through the research on this artwork, Acehnese batik products and its regional culture will become increasingly known through the creation of creative patterns.Keywords: peusijek, design, patterns, batik. AbstrakPeusijuk merupakan tradisi dalam masyarakat Aceh sebagai bentuk rasa syukur atas pencapaian yang diraih dalam kehidupan, mendapatkan ketenteraman, dan kedamaian. Prosesi peusijuk dilakukan pada momen tertentu, seperti peusijuk pada upacara perkawinan, upacara tinggal di rumah baru, upacara hendak merantau, pergi/naik haji, peusijuk keureubeuen (kurban), peusijuk perempuan diceraikan suami, perkelahian, permusuhan, sehingga didamaikan. Pada ranah seni rupa, belum pernah mengambil peusijuek sebagai objek untuk dijadikan sebuah produk kriya khusunya desain motif batik.  Motif yang diterapkan pada batik Aceh pada umumnya yaitu motif tradisional Aceh. Penciptaan ini  bertujuan untuk membuat desain motif Aceh pada media batik berdasarkan tradisi peusijuk. Metode penciptaan yang digunakan terdiri dari empat langkah, yaitu: tahap pra-perancangan (pengembaraan jiwa), perancangan (sketsa alternatif dan desain terpilih), perwujudan (penerapan desain motif terpilih menggunakan media batik), dan penyajian (pameran karya seni). Hasil penciptaan desain motif peusijuk menghasilkan 5 motif baru yaitu Oen Sinijuek, Oen Manek Manoe, Oen naleung samboe, Sijuek, Peureutek. Lima motif tersebut memiliki makna sesuai dengan filosofi dari tradisi Peusijuk.  Motif yang dihasilkan dapat dijadikan sebagai acuan atau referensi bagi penelitian selanjutnya mengenai motif kreasi yang berangkat dari tradisi Aceh.
