Abstract

Indonesia guarantees the right of every child to enjoy protection from the state, including protection from sexual and economic exploitation that threatens their lives. This study attempts to assess the implementation, the impacts, and the challenges of the WVI child empowerment program from the time it was first introduced in Yahim village in 2018 to the year 2021. A qualitative method is used in this study in conjunction with a descriptive approach to explain the topic. Primary sources, such as interviews, field notes, personal documents, and other official documents, as well as secondary sources, such as books, journals, and media articles, are also used in this study. This article shows that WVI implemented the programs successfully, despite facing some external challenges. The program has had some impacts, including a decrease in cases of violence against children, an increase in children’s interest in literacy and gender equality, and children’s activeness in expressing their voices about their rights. A key conclusion is that providing children with access to empowerment programs should be sustained as it will result in better long-term outcomes. Hence, WVI and other humanitarian organizations need to expand similar programs to other villages/ communities. KEYWORDS Children’s rights; Empowerment; WVI; Yahim

Abstract

Bullying has been a national and international concern. Most cases of bullying have taken place in schools, especially, among high school students. The United Nations, through International Convention on Children 1989, UNICEF, and Indonesian Ministry of Education Number 46/20023 have issued guidelines and regulations on how to prevent and address the cases of violence against children, including bullying in schools. The purpose of this community service is to raise high school students’ awareness and to educate them on various forms of bullying, the destructive impact of bullying and mechanism of reporting with reference to the national and international conventions. This community service is held in SMA YPPK Katolik Teruna Bakti, Waena, Jayapura. This school is selected because of its academic achievement, consistently maintaining A in its accreditation, and well-known for its high discipline. However, bullying still takes place in this school, with verbal and cyber forms of bullying the most. The method used in this program is presentation, discussion, and questions and answers. By the end of this program, students have an understanding of various dimensions of bullying, its impacts, and national and international guidelines on preventing and reporting bullying. It is recommended that the school to have anti bullying task force and a clear mechanism of reporting bullying. It is hoped that the school will be a role model for other schools to have similar program and free-bullying based school.

Abstract

This article analyses Indonesia’s strategic diplomatic manoeuvre in joining BRICS amidst the growing multipolarity of the global order. Using a qualitative case study approach, this paper integrates three key frameworks: Free and Active Foreign Policy, Hedging Strategy, and Multipolarity. The study draws on secondary data from government documents, academic journals, think-tank reports, and international media sources. The findings reveal that Indonesia’s accession to BRICS opens strategic opportunities in South–South economic cooperation, access to alternative development financing, and enhanced geopolitical influence. However, it also presents diplomatic risks such as potential Western pressure, internal dominance within BRICS by major powers, and reputational shifts that may affect ASEAN cohesion. The paper argues that Indonesia adopts a calculated hedging strategy that balances bilateral ties and multilateral engagement to maintain strategic autonomy. This study contributes to existing literature by offering an integrated analytical framework to understand Indonesia’s foreign policy adaptation, while also providing practical insight into the dynamics of middle power diplomacy in the Global South.
