Abstract

Introduction: Children with intellectual disabilities require more intensive and continuous caregiving, which often places significant psychological and emotional burdens on mothers, who typically serve as the primary caregivers. The demands associated with caregiving responsibilities—ranging from managing daily activities to addressing complex emotional and behavioral needs—can result in elevated levels of maternal stress. Prolonged exposure to such stress may adversely affect a mother's physical and psychological well-being, ultimately impacting her overall quality of life. One of the contributing factors that may alleviate this burden is the active involvement of fathers in caregiving tasks. Paternal involvement is believed to offer both emotional reassurance and practical support, which can significantly ease the caregiving load carried by mothers. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between paternal involvement in caregiving and maternal stress levels among families raising children with intellectual disabilities. Method: A correlational study design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The sample consisted of 49 mothers recruited using a total sampling technique. Instruments used in this research were developed by modifying the Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC) to measure paternal involvement and adopting the Parental Stress Scale to assess maternal stress. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. Result: Findings revealed that 33 mothers (67.3%) reported high paternal involvement, 11 (22.4%) moderate, and 5 (10.2%) low. Regarding maternal stress levels, 22 mothers (44.9%) experienced low stress, while 27 (55.1%) experienced moderate stress. No respondents reported high stress. Conclusion: Statistical analysis showed a significant positive correlation between paternal involvement and reduced maternal stress levels (r = 0.088; p = 0.048). These results suggest that increased paternal engagement in caregiving contributes to lower maternal stress and better maternal well-being.

Abstract

Introduction & Objective: Neonatal anemia is a common health problem, particularly in developing countries, and contributes to increased morbidity and mortality in infants. One effective intervention that can be implemented immediately after birth is delayed cord clamping, which involves delaying the clamping of the umbilical cord for 1–3 minutes to allow for blood transfusion from the placenta to the infant. This practice is associated with increased hemoglobin levels in newborns. Method: This study is a literature review analyzing seven selected research articles published between 2019 and 2024, from both national and international journals. Inclusion criteria included experimental or quasi-experimental studies evaluating the effects of delayed cord clamping on hemoglobin levels and newborns. Data were analyzed narratively and comparatively. Result: All analyzed studies showed that delayed umbilical cord clamping has a positive impact on increasing hemoglobin levels and the hematological status of newborns. Newborns who underwent delayed umbilical cord clamping had higher hemoglobin, hematocrit, and iron stores compared to those who had their umbilical cord clamped earlier. Some studies also noted improved blood pressure stability and organ perfusion, particularly in preterm infants. Conclusion: Delayed cord clamping is a simple, safe, and effective intervention that can increase hemoglobin levels and improve the hematological status of newborn infants. The routine implementation of delayed cord clamping should be considered in delivery protocols as a preventive measure against neonatal anemia.

Abstract

Background: Pregnancy is a physiological process that induces various bodily changes in women, including hormonal, postural, and biomechanical adaptations. Back pain is a common complaint among pregnant women, particularly during the third trimester. Prenatal exercise serves as a non-pharmacological intervention designed to enhance physical fitness, strengthen muscles, and alleviate pregnancy-related discomfort. Objective: This case study examines the implementation of prenatal exercise to reduce back pain in Mrs. Y, a third-trimester pregnant woman in Banjarsari District, Ciamis Regency. Method: Using a qualitative descriptive methodology with a maternity nursing care process approach (assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation), data were collected through interviews, physical examinations, observations, and documentation review. Result: Initial assessment revealed Mrs. Y experienced intermittent back pain described as "heavy pressure" with radiating characteristics, aggravated by activity and relieved by rest. The intervention involved three consecutive days of guided prenatal exercises, with pain intensity monitored using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Results demonstrated reduced pain intensity (from moderate to mild), improved sleep quality, better posture, and enhanced overall comfort. Additionally, the subject showed increased readiness for childbirth. Conclusion: This study concludes that prenatal exercise is a safe and effective method for mitigating back pain and should be integrated as a promotive-preventive strategy in maternity nursing care. The author recommends incorporating prenatal exercises into standard antenatal class programs at primary healthcare facilities

Abstract

Family planning is a health service that helps individuals and couples control fertility, prevent unplanned pregnancies, and determine the number and spacing of children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), injectable contraceptives are the most widely used method globally, accounting for 35.3% of contraceptive users. Despite their effectiveness, injectable contraceptives are associated with side effects, including changes in the menstrual cycle, which can lead to anxiety among users. This case study aims to scientifically document nursing care for mothers using injectable contraceptives, focusing on the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. It emphasizes the importance of comprehensive nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and documentation to support maternal and family health. The descriptive case study method was applied to explore changes in the menstrual cycle and anxiety in mothers using injectable contraceptives. Data collection involved interviews, physical examinations, observation, document review, demographic data, and quality of life questionnaires. Data validity was maintained using credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability criteria. Ethical considerations included informed consent, anonymity, and confidentiality. Data were analyzed systematically to identify key findings. Findings indicated that menstrual disturbances in mothers were linked to the hormonal effects of injectable contraceptives, specifically the impact of progesterone on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, leading to suppression of ovulation and alteration of menstrual patterns. Nursing interventions contributed to a reduction in anxiety and improvement in menstrual regulation. Proper nursing care, guided by structured assessment and ongoing evaluation, can address anxiety and menstrual issues related to injectable contraceptive use. Continued documentation is essential for ensuring the effectiveness and continuity of care.

Abstract

Introduction: Acute pain is a physiological problem found in patients undergoing surgery, one of which is sectio caesarea. Efforts are made to overcome this problem by applying the Benson relaxation technique. Objective: This case study seeks to provide a detailed description of the benson relaxation intervention and its effectiveness in reducing pain in patients undergoing sectio caesarea surgery. Method: The method used is descriptive qualitative, using case study techniques to review nursing care, with reference to the SDKI and SIKI books. The focus of this case study is on an individual, Mrs. N, a 28-year-old woman who underwent sectio caesarea, diagnosed with severe pain and received treatment at Teratai 2 Room of Banjar City Hospital. The case study was conducted from May 30 to June 01, 2024 using data collection strategies of interview, observation, physical examination and documentation study. Result: After providing nursing care to clients who underwent sectio caesarea, the symptoms found at the time of assessment included surgical scar pain precisely in the lower abdomen. The nursing problem found is acute pain associated with physical injury agents, as mentioned in the SDKI book. Appropriate interventions to relieve the pain by doing benson relaxation. When the intervention takes place, the process runs smoothly until the assessment stage. At the evaluation stage there was a decrease in the pain scale from 6 to 3 (0-10). Conclusion: The implementation of benson relaxation proved to be very helpful in reducing post sectio caesarea pain, as evidenced by the client's subjective recognition. This finding is consistent with previous writing, making it a valuable reference for further writing. Benson relaxation intervention can be an alternative way to reduce postoperative pain, one of which is in the case of post sectio caesarea pain experienced in hospitals and health centers.
