Abstract

Pendoworejo Village, Kapanewon Girimulyo, Kab. Kulon Progo, DIY is an area designated by the government as LP2B (Sustainable Food Agricultural Land), but in reality, this area is experiencing quite a drastic shrinkage of agricultural land. This is influenced by the existing Trend “culinary with view” in the Kulon Progo area which is directly proportional to the widespread conversion of agricultural land into culinary business buildings. This phenomenon is a consequence of the modernization process in developing regions. This research aims to discover the social and economic impacts of local farmers in Pendoworejo District. To find answers to these problems, researchers used qualitative phenomenological research methods. The data obtained is primary data from interviews with informants who are farmers in Pendoworejo Village. This research shows that agricultural land conversion has the potential to have a social impact on local farmers in the form of reduced urbanization rates, changes in people's mindsets, cultural shock, and increasing affordability and availability of employment sectors. Meanwhile, the economic impact of agricultural land conversion is reducing unemployment, establishing relationships between entrepreneurs and the community, and increasing household income in local communities.

Abstract

The book Religion, Conflict, and Peacebuilding by Stipe Odak examines the role of religion in conflicts and peacebuilding efforts, focusing on Bosnia and Herzegovina. This book emerges amidst the rise of religiously motivated violence, such as the events of 2014, and addresses a critical question: Can religion be part of the solution when it is often perceived as part of the problem? In terms of substance, Odak explores how religious leaders can either exacerbate or mitigate conflicts and how they serve as agents of change in the peace process. The book is based on interviews with religious leaders and in-depth case studies, discussing strategies for interfaith dialogue and faith-based peace initiatives. Odak highlights two contrasting realities: violence fueled by religious beliefs and the substantial efforts by religious individuals and institutions to foster peace. Criticism of the book centers on its narrow geographic focus, which may lead readers to feel that its findings are confined to the Balkan context. Additionally, the book lacks a deeper critical analysis of the potential biases of religious leaders in their approaches. Nevertheless, it makes a significant contribution to the literature on religion, conflict, and peacebuilding, particularly for those interested in the dynamics of religion-based conflicts.

Abstract

Presidential debates are a vital tool in the democratic process, particularly in providing information to voters and aiding them in making decisions. However, the manner in which presidential debates are conducted can impact their effectiveness. Framing is the process of assigning meaning or explanations to an event or issue. The objective of this research is to examine how young voters perceive presidential debates from their perspective. The study utilizes a qualitative descriptive method involving interviews, observations, and literature review. Findings reveal that young voters tend to view presidential debates based on issues relevant to their lives, such as democracy, education, and employment. Overall, this research indicates that young voters tend to frame presidential debates based on issues pertinent to their lives. Additionally, young voters also tend to assess presidential debates based on the candidates' ability to respond to questions and convey their presented vision and mission. Furthermore, young voters also tend to evaluate presidential debates based on the candidates' ability to fulfill their desires. The results of this research will significantly impact future presidential debates. Presidential debates should align with the information needs of young voters and capture their attention. Key words: presidential debates, framing, young voters, 2024 elections

Abstract

Accreditation is currently one of the important aspects in measuring the reputation of a scientific journal. As the presence of scientific journals is intended to support the academic achievements of lecturers and researchers, journals must inevitably make efforts to make various changes and improvements to achieve the best reputation, especially in the international scope. This study tries to examine more deeply why JSR has not been able to increase its score from the results of Sinta accreditation in 2018 and 2020 in terms of OJS management, review management and article quality and what efforts can be made to improve the performance of OJS management, review management and article quality to meet international standards (Scopus). This study uses a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques in the form of observation (direct observation), in-depth interviews with journal managers, and FGD. Based on the results of the research and discussion that have been presented by the author, it can be concluded that the Reflective Sociology Journal (JSR) still faces various challenges and problems. These challenges and problems come not only from external but also internal. From the external, JSR is faced with the fact that national and international accreditation requires JSR to make improvements in OJS management, review management and most importantly, improving the quality of articles. While from the internal, JSR faces challenges and problems also related to OJS management, review management and article quality. Keywords: Journal; Accreditation; Scopus

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between instrumental extraction metrics and perceived sensory outcomes in a controlled pour-over brewing session using single-origin Rwandan Red Bourbon coffee. The brewing parameters were carefully standardized, with a coffee dose of 10 grams, 180.5 grams of water at 90°C, and a medium grind size of 960 μm. The total brew time was 2 minutes and 31 seconds, resulting in a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) value of 2.07%, measured using a DiFluid R2 Extract refractometer. While this TDS value indicates a quantitatively optimal extraction near the upper limit of Specialty Coffee Association standards, the perceived flavor was reported as neutral and weak, lacking distinctive bitterness, acidity, or sweetness. This discrepancy highlights the influence of post-roast aging (125.2 days) and the absence of trained sensory calibration on flavor perception. The findings demonstrate a measurable disconnect between digital extraction metrics and subjective sensory quality, emphasizing the limitations of using TDS as a standalone quality indicator. This study underscores the importance of integrating quantitative analysis with sensory protocols, especially for non-professional brewers, and contributes to a growing body of data-driven approaches in the field of specialty coffee evaluation. It also opens a path toward reproducible brewing science accessible outside traditional laboratory or cupping environments.

Abstract

Trade liberalization has been carried out through the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Barriers to trade both goods and services are no longer found. Through market trade liberalization, ASEAN countries are increasingly open to competition. E-Commerce trade is a trade that was born due to the development of information technology. Through trade E-Commerce creates opportunities and challenges for countries in Southeast Asia. One product that is widely traded is cosmetics. The cosmetics industry has a strategic opportunity to increase the income of Southeast Asian countries, especially Indonesia. Promising markets, abundant raw materials and the ability to absorb labor are quite a number of industries to be reckoned with. It is interesting to study further the existence of strata that sells cosmetic products both at home and abroad through E-Commerce trading continues to increase. But on the other hand local Indonesian cosmetic products are not able to compete with foreign products. As a result, losses can be experienced by cosmetic products SME entrepreneurs. This study is intended to determine the role of the Indonesian government in enhancing the competitiveness of cosmetic products in the Asean realm as well as regulations that regulate cosmetics trade through the use of e-commerce.

Abstract

Food photography has developed into a medium that transcends documentation, functioning as a form of aesthetic expression and cultural storytelling. This study analyzes a series of eight photographs depicting the pour-over brewing process of single-origin Kenya Gichathaini coffee. Using a qualitative visual analysis approach, the study integrates technical aspects of photography—composition, lighting, color, and depth of field—with narrative frameworks that shape viewers’ sensory experiences. The photographs were taken with a Fujifilm X-M1 camera and a TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 lens, using continuous LED lighting with a softbox positioned at 8 o’clock. Each image was examined through established compositional rules such as the rule of thirds, golden ratio, and leading lines, alongside principles of soft directional lighting and negative space. Findings reveal that visual coherence, strategic use of composition, and controlled lighting work together to create a compelling narrative arc: from product identity, materiality of coffee beans, human interaction, brewing accuracy, process dynamics, transformation through blooming, contextual setup, and the final cup. This study highlights how food photography serves as both an aesthetic practice and a cultural text, contributing to the broader discourse of visual gastronomy. The implications extend to photographers, academics, and gastronomy practitioners seeking to craft food images that are not only visually appealing but also narratively meaningful.
