Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in solidarity in the community. However, COVID-19 solidarity, which is not only given to vulnerable groups, can cause only a few elderly to receive assistance. This study aimed to analyze the accuracy of the targeting of COVID-19 solidarity assistance aimed at the elderly as the most vulnerable group, concerning things that can be understood about the elderly in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is a descriptive study with a semi-quantitative approach. This research was conducted by tracing and analyzing news about Covid-19 Solidarity, which was published in online media. The research period was started from March to June 2020. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation, observation, and literature studies. The study found that out of 352 news, only 16 news contained the target to the elderly. So it can be concluded that during the COVID-19 pandemic, only a few elderly received assistance. This is due to the negative stigma regarding the elderly. Suggestions for future researchers, to be able to research by gathering news in a larger number to get wider news information from each region. Keywords: COVID-19,  Elderly,  Social solidarity,  Social stigma

Abstract

Excessive physical activity can cause Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. One inflammatory marker is Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α). Eleutherine palmifolia (Dayak onion) contains flavonoids, saponins, and tannins with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Dayak onion extract on TNF-α levels in a DOMS rat model induced by the Forced Swimming Test (FST). The study used a randomized pre- and post-test control Group design with five groups: K–, K+, and three treatment groups receiving 50, 100, and 200 mg/200 g BW doses for 21 days. The results showed a significant decrease in TNF-α levels, with the 200 mg/200 g BW dose (P3) exhibiting the greatest effect (91.36% compared to K–) and no significant difference compared to K+. In conclusion, a 200 mg/200 g BW dose per day was the most effective in reducing TNF-α levels associated with DOMS.

Abstract

Toddlers are a group that is classified as vulnerable in disaster emergencies. One of the areas running a nutrition emergency program is Lumajang Regency, which also has a prevalence of severely wasted reaching 6.9%. A factor that indirectly influences the nutritional status of toddlers is the mother's nutritional fulfillment behavior. This can apply especially in disaster situations that cause local food limitations. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional behavior in emergency conditions and the nutritional status of toddlers. This research is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaires for 44 parents of toddlers and measuring the nutritional status of 44 toddlers. Data analysis was carried out by giving a score on the questionnaire and calculating the z-score on the anthropometric data. The Sommers'd test was carried out to analyze the relationship between nutritional behavior and nutritional status. This research found there was no relationship between the mother’s nutritional behavior (including participation, reactions, knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behavior) and the nutritional status of toddlers (p>0.05). This can be caused by food availability factors which directly influence the nutritional status of toddlers.
