Abstract

Background: Oral health is an important part of an individual's overall health. The presence of disorders of the oral cavity can significantly affect a person's life. One of the problems that often arise is loose teeth. Loose teeth can be caused by disease or injury to the gums and the supporting tissues of the teeth. The most common factor that causes loose teeth is the buildup of plaque or tartar. This condition can cause damage to the bone that supports the teeth and the periodontal ligament which causes the teeth to become loose. In addition, a person's systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus also aggravate the condition of tooth mobility. Method: This community service is carried out by counseling, distributing leaflets, poster, quiz, and giving door prizes. The audience's level of knowledge related to dental and oral health, especially periodontal tissue was evaluated using a questionnaire Result: 1 respondent (3.33%) had low oral hygiene habits, 24 respondents (83.3%) had moderate oral hygiene habits, and 4 respondents (13.3%) had very good/high oral hygiene habits. Conclusion: Dental and oral health education in the community can effectively improve oral hygiene

Abstract

Background: An incision wound is a type of open wound obtained using a scalpel by paying attention to the size, location and purpose of the wound. Collagen has an important role during the wound healing process. The content that can trigger the formation of collagen is phenolic compounds such as oleuropein, oleocanthal, and luteolin that can be found in olive oil. This study aims to determine the effect of olive oil cream 5% on the amounts of collagen on incision wounds process.Method: A quasy experimental design in vivo with a post-test only control group design on 12 wistar rats. The control group and the experimental group with 5% olive oil cream. Incision wounds was seen from the amount of collagen using One-Way Anova analysis.Result: The study showed that there was a significant effect of 5% olive oil on the amount of collagen with a significance of 0.000 (0<0.05).The results between the control group and the treatment had significant differences on 3th and 5th days. Conclusion: The conclusion is that there is an effect of giving 5% olive oil cream on the amount of collagen in the healing process of wistar incision lips.

Abstract

Background: This study aims to determine the differences in the effectiveness of education methods between the quartet card game method and the lectures method on the level of students' oral health knowledgeMethod: This study uses a cross-sectional study method. The subjects were 30 students of SD Islam Terpadu Asshodiqiyah Semarang by aged 11-12 years old. The subjects receive dental and oral health education. One group received education using the quartet card game method and the other group received education using the lectures method. The level of students' oral health knowledge was measured using a questionnaire (pre test and post test).Result: The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the quartet game method (p=0.036). There was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the lecture method (p=0.002). The Mann-Whitney test results showed no significant difference between the post-test scores of the quartet card game method and the test scores of the lecture method (p=0.254).Conclusion: Quartet card games can be used as an alternative learning method that can increase student involvement in learning, resulting in good knowledge retention

Abstract

Background: The disease of the oral cavity is quite common in the society is periodontitis. The main cause of this condition is a certain bacterial infection found in dental plaque. In general, metronidazole gel will be given as additional therapy to treat bacterial colonization. Mangosteen peel extract gel contains xanthones and flavonoids which are known to be antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. This research aims to specify the differences in the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory between mangosteen peel extract and metronidazole gel on fibroblast proliferation.Method: This is a laboratory experimental design using post-test only design consisted of 50% mangosteen peel extract gel group, 75% mangosteen peel extract gel group, 25% metronidazole gel group and metronidazole plus gel group. This research used male Wistar rats induced periodontitis by ligation for 7 days as samples. Results: The results reveal that there was a differences in effectiveness between the 4 groups against the proliferation of fibroblast were analyzed using One Way ANOVA with a significance of 0.000 (p<0.05).Conclusion: It can be concluded that there was differences in the effectiveness of mangosteen peel extract gel and metronidazole gel as anti-inflammatory on proliferation of fibroblast in periodontitis healing process.

Abstract

Background: Traumatic ulcers are lesions of the oral mucosa caused by mechanical, chemical, and temperature trauma. Traumatic ulcer treatment aims to reduce inflammation, accelerate the healing process, and reduce pain. Bay leaf has anti-inflammatory pharmacological activities. This study aims to determine the effect of bay leaf extract on the expression of fibroblast growth factor in traumatic ulcer oral mucosa in Wistar rats.Method: This is an experimental research with a post-test only control group design, consisting of four groups with 20 sample of male Wistar rats. All animals were injured using a hot burnisher attached to the labial mucosa for 1 second. The gel was applied twice daily until the 3rd and 5th day after the ulcer has formed. Rat mucosal tissues were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining for FGF expressions. Statistical analysis using SPSS Mann-Whitney test.Result: The results showed the mean of cells expressing FGF in the bay gel extract group on the 3rd and 5th days were 8.4 ± 0.8, and 13.6 ± 0.5. Mann Whitney test results showed P<0.05 there is a significant differential expression of FGF traumatic ulcer oral mucosa of experimental animals on days 3 and 5 compared control group. Conclusion: Bay leaf extract increased FGF expression on days 3 and 5

Abstract

Introduction: Plaque is a transparent layer that requires a coloring agent in the form of a disclosing agent to visualize it. Erythrosine, as one of the frequently used disclosing agents, has potential toxic side effects if used in the long term. Therefore, this study aims to compare the effectiveness of color absorption between tablets based on extracts and fractions of mangosteen fruit peel (Garcinia mangostana L.) with erythrosine as a control. Materials and Methods: This study employed a laboratory experimental design with a post-test-only controlled group design. A total of 36 healthy dental samples were divided into 9 groups, which were soaked in saliva for 8, 24, and 48 hours. After plaque formation, tablets of extracts, mangosteen peel fractions, and erythrosine were applied to the teeth. Results and Discussion: The results of analysis using the One-way ANOVA test showed that erythrosine tablets had significantly higher color absorption than the extract and mangosteen peel fraction tablets. Conclusion: Erythrosine is still a more effective option in highlighting dental plaque, but mangosteen peel-based tablets can be a safer natural alternative with potential for further development. Further research is recommended to optimize the formulation of mangosteen peel tablets to improve their effectiveness and convenience in clinical applications.
