Abstract

Most of the people of West Kalimantan use traditional medicinal plants for treatment. Kubu Raya Regency is one of the districts that has traditional medicine (Battra), which uses medicinal plants in its practice. This research aims to carry out an inventory of medicinal plants used by traditional healers in Batra. The research design used in this research is descriptive research. The method used was to observe Batra to obtain information, followed by interviews. The data analysis technique used is qualitative in the form of narrative analysis, where data is obtained from traditional healers and then described to find out the names, properties, parts used, and methods of making and using medicinal plants. From the research results, it was found that 12 types of medicinal plants were used by traditional healers, namely alang-alang roots, cat's whisker leaves, guava leaves, Euphorbia tirucalli leaves, pegagan leaves, bay leaves, buas-buas leaves, white cumin, tapak jala leaves, cengkodok leaves, red betel leaves, and turmeric. The parts of the plant used are roots, rhizomes, leaves, and seeds. The way to make and use medicinal plants is by pasting, smearing, or smearing them. Some diseases treated using medicinal plants include fever, toothache, high blood pressure, blood sugar, itching, fungus, scabs, diarrhea, ulcers, rheumatism, hemorrhoids, stomach aches, low back pain, burns, irritated wounds, and skin inflammation.

Abstract

Abstract

Exposure to sunlight for a long time and repeatedly can also cause chemical and physical damage to human hair. Clinically, microscopic analysis using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) can assess hair damage by identifying the characteristic morphology of hair damage. This study aims to analyze the morphology of damaged hair chemically induced using 3% H2O2 and photoinduced UVB radiation before and after applying sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan) hair tonic. The active ingredients used were ethanol extract, ethanol fraction, and chloroform-methanol fraction of C. sappan, which contains an antioxidant compound. Caesalpinia sappan simplicia was macerated using 96% ethanol and then partitioned using n-hexane. The ethanol fraction was then applied using vacuum column chromatography using chloroform : methanol (5 : 1) as eluent. The extracts and fractions were then formulated into hair tonic preparations. For SEM analysis, hair samples were coated with a sputter gold coater machine and divided into five treatments: undamaged hair, damaged hair with 3% H2O2 and UVB rays as a positive control, and treatment I, II, and III, in which the hair was damaged with 3% H2O2 and UVB rays respectively, then FI, FII, and FIII were applied, respectively (2000x magnification). Damaged hair with UVB induction shows moderate damage, and 3% H2O2 shows moderate to severe damage. The results in the treatment group show that the three hair tonics coated the hair cuticle, indicating an interaction with the hair fiber, and modified the cuticle by coating the cuticle.

Abstract

Desa Karimunting has the potential for medicinal plants, such as nutmeg, sappan wood, lime citrus, and fruits. Sappan wood contains the antioxidant brazilin, which can give an orange to red color, depending on the pH. Meanwhile, lime citrus contains citric acid, which is used to modify the color produced by sappan wood. This PkM aims to provide education and training in making candied dried fruit with modified natural dyes from sapan wood and limau citrus. The method used provided material followed by training in making candied dried fruit. The PkM results were examined through a pre and post-test, and then the data was processed using the t-test. Evaluation of the program was performed using a Likert scale. The results acquired are candied dried fruit products with various colors. Based on the evaluation results, there was a growth in participants' understanding from 67 to 82.43, implied by a substantial difference between the pre and post-test results. The index value of opinion is 98.67% in the very satisfied category. This shows that PkM activities can supply education and skills for the community in processing fruit plantation products into candied dried fruit, which is beneficial for health and has economic potential.

Abstract

Desa Pal IX is one of the villages in Kecamatan Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya Regency which is affected by stunting cases with a stunting case percentage of around 12.7 percent. Sappan wood and limau citrus contain micronutrient compounds in the form of bioactive phenolic compounds and flavonoids, as well as macronutrients in the form of fats and carbohydrates. The aim of implementing this PkM is to provide education and training in making syrup from processed sappan wood and limau citrus as a macro and micro nutrient intake for handling stunting cases in Pal IX village. In general, the stages and planned activities that carried out at this PkM are preparation for activities, implementation of activities, monitoring and evaluation. The method used is the material explanation followed by training on making syrup and how to pack it to produce syrup. The results obtained are processed syrup products from sappan wood and limau citrus. In addition, there was an increase in the average score before and after the workshop, namely an increase in knowledge from a score of 30 to 68.4. Meanwhile, the results of the activity evaluation gave an index value of 86.5%, in the very satisfied category. The workshop activities were able to provide education and skills for PKK organisation in Pal IX Village in recognizing the potential of processed sappan wood and limau citrus syrup in preventing and treating stunting and making syrup product that is rich in macro-micro nutrients.
