Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah untuk memberikan keterampilan serta wawasan kepada mahasiswa dalam membuat media pembelajaran sederhana dan menarik sesuai dengan tema pelajaran di kampus dengan menggunakan aplikasi Powtoon, Sehingga dengan adanya media pembelajaran ini, mahasiswa bisa memanfaatkan kemajuan teknologi dalam pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini yakni pelatihan dan pendampingan yang dilaksanakan secara daring dengan subjek sasaran yakni mahasiswa universitas Kristen Indonesia toraja prodi, Bahasa ingris, semester 4 tahun ajaran 2023 dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 10 orang . Tahapan kegiatan ini yaitu sosialisasi, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan yaitu mahasiswa sedikit kesulitan menggunakan aplikasi powtoon karena belum terbiasa. Meskipun begitu meraka bisa mengoperasikan powtoon dengan baik. mereka menyadari bahwa membuat media dengan powtoon begitu menarik dan mereka semua merasa senang dengan kesempatan yang diberikan untuk mengikuti pelatihan ini. Kesimpulannya yakni kegiatan Pelatihan pemanfaatan PowToon sebagai media pembelajaran bagi mahasiswa prodi Bahasa ingris di tahun 2023” mahasiswa di kampus 2 uki toraja memiliki antusiasme yang tinggi terhadap program PKM yang kami lakukan. Kegiatan ini memunculkan pengetahuan yang baru bagi mahasiswa tentang bagaimana caranya memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi. Dengan arti lain, kegiatan ini dapat membantu mahasiswa dalam memanfaatkan penggunaan aplikasi web powtoon untuk proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the role of google translation in comprehending English text for 5th semester students of the English Department of FKIP UKI Toraja. In this study used qualitative methods in the form of interviews. To analyze the data, researcher used the theory of Miles and Hubberman. The source of data in this study is 5th semester students majoring in English. UKI Toraja consists of ten students as research reapondents. Through the results of the study, researcher found the role of Google Translate in comprehending English text, namely the speed and ease of translating Google Translate is able to provide an initial picture for a text, although it is limited in translating cultures, norms and social contexts.Based on the results above, the researcher concluded that Google Translate plays a role and is significance in comprehending English texts. Its role and significance include providing ease in translation process, providing quickly translation, allowing students to quickly get an overview of the text they are reading, time efficiency, facilitating cross-cultural communication

Abstract

Toraja proverbs serve as a vital expression of local wisdom, encapsulating the cultural values, ethical principles, and social norms that shape the identity of the Tora ja people. This paper explores the cultural foundations embedded in Toraja proverbs. Through a qualitative analysis of proverbs, the study examines how these values influence interpersonal relationships, community dynamics, and ethical conduct within Toraja society. Findings reveal that proverbs not only guide individual behavior but also as guidance in a Toraja society. It includes the importance of familial bonds, cooperation, leadership, persistence, loyalty, fairness, wisdom, sincerity, humility, and diligence. These values reflect the essence of Toraja's cultural identity and provide timeless guidance for maintaining harmony and character development

Abstract

This study explores lecturers' perceptions of integrating local cultural values into English teaching materials. The research aims to examine how cultural elements are utilized to enhance student engagement, foster critical thinking, and preserve local heritage while teaching English. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through a questionnaire distributed to 6 lecturers from English Education Study Program of UKI Toraja. The findings reveal that lecturers perceive the integration of local culture as a significant pedagogical tool. A majority believe that it enhances the relevance of learning materials, creates a more inclusive classroom environment, and promotes cultural awareness among students. Additionally, incorporating cultural values is seen as a way to bridge local and global perspectives, encouraging character building and fostering values such as tolerance and empathy. This study underscores the importance of cultural integration in language education, emphasizing its potential to provide both linguistic and cultural benefits. The findings highlight the lecturers' commitment to holistic education that balances the preservation of local identity with the demands of global communication.

Abstract

The urgency of this research is to find out what students' experiences are during the student exchange program. The purpose of this research is to find out the experience of students participating in student exchanges. The researcher conducted this research using qualitative methods. The purposive sampling strategy was used to obtain data from students of the English Education study program who had participated in the student exchange program. The data was obtained by interview technique. The findings show that experience starts from the preparation, selection, process, and evaluation. In the preparation stage, students seek information through various sources, such as social media. The selection stage involves online tests as well as administrative challenges that are solved with various strategies. The process stage included adaptation to the new environment, communication challenges, and culture shock, which were overcome in various ways, such as learning about the local culture and establishing interactions. Evaluations showed that the experience provided many benefits, including improved mindset, self-confidence, social relationships, academic experience, and greater cultural insight. Experience of students from preparation to evaluation is that students prepare themselves and follow the selection process well, go through a series of processes to find enormous benefits including opening mindsets and broadening their horizons, social interaction of students and can increase understanding of ethnic, religious, racial and cultural diversity. Although there are some challenges faced, students feel that their experience is very valuable and enriches their lives, both in terms of academic, social, and personal.
